Relating idea:
-
Oh that is a really good idea, that would be useful! We would use that too...
-
Interesting idea, I know you could setup a custom poller and notification in Orion to query and notify on that. Making a custom metric in DPA would probably work, but then polling would get executed and displayed for all targets of the configured class I think?
-
I just wanted to give a visual example of what this might look like... often we are sharing these perfstack analysis with business analysts that do not have time to understand the nuances of what each of these charts mean - or what specific server names are used for. Just being to add some type of a bar a label between…
-
Yep, a lot of ways this could be useful! Another example: scheduled application event markers - in one system we get specific log messages for batch job start and job end times. If I setup one custom poller for job starts and another for job ends, I now have the ability to mark on a database server metric or app specific…

That is a really interesting idea. For SQL server if it is enabled, Query store kind of is intended to detect (and if configured, respond to) plan regressions where a new plan results in sub-optimal performance. But stale statistics would not necessarily result in a new plan. Oracle DB I believe you need to have purchased…

Auto-Growth increment and Max file size would be pretty standard metrics across platforms too. Average historical growth rate over time would correlate to some specific wait stats. Depending on underlying storage and OS/VM configuration, periods of intense growth would stand out and could be investigated. Overlaps a little…

I see from this other request, that this was referenced internally as PS-996 - but that comment is really old. Can we get a status check on this request? Is this still being looked at or considered? Once these requests pass so many years do we need to re-submit them as new requests to keep them relevant?…
-
We do - this is a great option - checking it out now! Thank you!
-
Agreed, this would be a really useful feature to have.

I just want to mention that we did implement the DPA custom metrics for AG that jvb mentioned, however there is a down side to these metrics. The metrics are polled for every qualifying server (based on SQL Server version) which means for us that 4 extra metrics are being polled on another 30 servers that are not members…

Of SolarWinds suite of products, Perfstack is still the thing that we use every day, that ties together information from many different domains and allows us to identify trend irregularities at a glance for key systems. And this request from years ago is STILL the one thing that we need very much. Every time I send a new…
-
Agree, really like this - has a lot of value - great idea!
-
So to summarize, what your looking for is for the individual chart legends to include component status in perfstack? I agree, that would be nice.
-
As a DBA I wholeheartedly agree with this. Perfstack is an amazing tool! I cannot wait until DPA metrics are integrated with this! Keep up the good work Solarwinds!

Link to a similar request... #bumpsquad

I wanted to revisit this - the metric palette button to "Reset to current project's entity context" is an awesome feature and works great. But we still have the situation where we need to clear the palette on a regular basis. One of those situations is when we are starting a new Analysis Project... If we could still hit…

Another way Chart Annotations could be implemented fairly easily (?) would be to add a Tab and let a description be viewed/edited when a chart is selected while that tab is active:
-
#bumpsquad - pinging on this. This would be super useful for overlaying state transitions - whether that be network events or process state transitions.
-
I agree this would be a great thing to see - this would let you track when bottlenecks are occurring on high transaction volume replicas.
-
Bump! Perfstack is getting better and better... it has been two years, and we really need this added... we need this all the time! 1) Title/Heading - need to be able to give a chart or group of charts a meaningful title 2) Chart Annotation - need to be able to include a line of text under some charts - for example to note…
-
This would be amazing, great idea.

Brainstorming a workaround: Poller evaluates for condition (presence of an event in time window, etc), when a true condition exists create two entries with values 0% and 100%, separated by a second. Write nothing when the condition is false. This would give you marker lines that are slightly slanted forward, but at the…
-
Just to clarify - the color reordering was not what I was referring to with this... this is an open request to be able to move content around on the perfstack page without having to delete and re-create it which is extremely time consuming. Thanks!
-
I would like to second this as a feature request. It would be very good to have the option to capture bind variables for different iterations of the same named query. For instance when you have a named query that has 50 or more executions in an hour, and the objects it is hitting include many *different* partitions it is…

I like the idea as an ad-hoc analysis tool as you describe. The idea of recording baselines, ie "what is a normal pattern for this entity/server/application" is an interesting one anyway - but the hard thing obviously is "What is normal?" and "within what timeframe?" and to establish that, how much additional reference…

Agree this is important to refine/make clear. As a workaround you can send them the link to your perf stack and they can view it and/or save it to their list. The drawback is if the original creator makes changes, unless they re-use the link they will not see those changes. Agree that Perfstack is a game changer. We have…

I think this idea has been addressed with this button and it working well: I feel like you could change this entry to implemented. Thanks for that - works great!
