this would save a LOT of time, please make it happen.

I was thinking the exact same thing! This would make life MUCH easier.

The most important for us right now would be contact information. We use groups to determine the health of multi-tiered applications so support can be any number of teams. If a part of the application breaks in one of the groups, we don't have any way to supply the correct contact info for the alert. As there is no…

Thanks everyone for your input on this. We are working on a move to SAM 5.0. In the mean time, this was enough ammo to justify another polling engine in our environment which for the time being seems to have resolved this issue. I should also mention for anyone else having this problem, that we managed to reduce the number…

Update: Since enabling the alert provided by aLTeReGo, I have been getting spammed quite frequently throughout the day with components missing > 5 polls. I have also noticed that we have polling completion values being negative quite frequently as described in this…

Awesome, thanks aLTeReGo! With regards to our environment... The database is on a separate SQL Cluster with more than adequate hardware. For polling engines we have...* Primary PE (Physical)* CPU: xeon x5460 @ 3.16GHz(8 cores total) * RAM: 32GB * OS: 2k3 x64 * Secondary PE (Virtual)* CPU: Xeon 5160 @ 3.00GHz (4 cores) *…

One more question for you guys. If I run the query posted by Questionario at any given time, I will always get results, typically more than 20 rows. For the most part, the MaxDateDiff doesn't seem to grow larger than 40 but, the fact that there are always components that are behind on poll times sort of worries me. Would…

definitely helps, thank you!

Hi Everyone, I am currently experiencing this problem. I suspect my problem is to do with the number of elements monitored by the primary polling engine. I would like to setup an alert as suggested by Questionario. For the query I'm having a tough time finding values for last poll time, next poll time, polling interval for…

Thanks for the update aLTeReGo

"We do plan to add write access API's in the future that would allow you to programmatically assign application templates using our SDK." Is this possible with the current SDK? If so any info on how I might go about implementing it?

That makes things very clear, thank you!

This solution worked for me as well but, I had to use a value of 3000 instead of 2000 to get it to work.

Thanks DH, I have posted the following in the feature request section Also I have to say Thwack is pretty sweet, I didn't expect to get any responses at all the same day :)

Thank you for the clarification Zizi. I'm curious about the line below: Improvements to Orion topology data collection using LLDP and CDP enable the determination of Layer 2 and Layer 3 data for devices that do not expose topology data over SNMP. Given your previous response, is it safe to say that NPM now uses or is able…

Has there since been an update to this or possible work around? It would be very handy to be able to add in some custom properties to groups so that we can alert the correct folks when problems occur with various groups.

Just saw this today in the NPM 10.3 release notes New Orion Core Fixes Orion Core version 2012.1 includes the following fixes and updates: * A website error encountered when using a non-English browser locale with the Orion NCM integration has been corrected. * Orion NPM is now able to correctly establish encrypted SNMPv3…

Thanks, I've just updated the polling values, we'll see how it goes. In the event this doesn't work, is there an article or post somewhere outlining how to determine if the scheduler is overloaded and how to resolve if it is?
-
Good to know, thanks for the information. I think this would make a reasonable feature request, supporting default values for custom properties along with providing a tool or adding on to the custom property editor to give the user the option to set the value.

Thanks for the responses. I'm just realizing I should have chosen different terms than Basic and Advanced alerts haha. I only use advanced alerts, I should have said, simple advanced alerts instead of basic alerts and, complex advanced alerts instead of advanced alerts. A complex advanced alert to me, is an alert that…

Is it possible to determine the topology of ICMP only devices? I realize that Orion will not be able to poll the IP-MIB on ICMP devices but, is there another method of determining the topology given that the MAC address should be available? From reading other posts, it sounds like this might be something that NCM can…

Thanks for the response. It's an F5 that I am indeed able to get per core info from via SNMP with a UNDP. I used your suggestion and got an alert set up. It doesn't show as much info as I would like but it does the job, thanks!

In case anyone comes across this, it looks like the database structure has changed enough that this will no longer function. That being said, for anyone that is willing to edit it to work with the new table structures you may find some value here.
