psf:Write (Professional Write) for DOS!

Ah! This sounds like the way I learned! Started my career as a reporter and editor at a few daily newspapers, then because I got tired of waiting for the tech people to fix my problems, I started getting them to show me how to fix/do things. I became the newsroom tech-guru then finally moved over to the "dark side" full…

Anytime! But I have to admit, I had to look it up to make sure I had the syntax correct! (for got the NOEMS switch!) But do you remember how to configure those old Soundblaster cards in autoexec.bat files? That always took me a couple times to get it working right!

DEVICE=C:\Windows\HIMEM.SYS DOS=HIGH,UMB DEVICE=C:\Windows\EMM386.EXE NOEMS Gads! Can't remember how many times I had to that into Config.sys files!

I was made our SolarWinds "expert" and admin about two years ago, but still feel like a newbie compared to most other people here, so count me in: Jeffrey L. This sounds pretty good, but what happens to the custom menus I've already created? On my current second level nav bar, I created links for summary pages for each one of my company's six sites? (See below). Where will they appear? Also will the things I removed (or re-ordered) be maintained during the upgrade? Or will I…

Thanks, going to try deploying this on one VLAN for as a test this week. I'll let you know how it works.

tomasv, thanks for replying. We use Orion to monitor our all our workstations as well as servers, so at any one time we can have between 1/3 and 2/3rds total nodes down. As far as I can tell I don't see any gaps in data collection when svchost spikes CPU/memory useage. Looks like we are still collecting data, just the…

I concur. That's the way I do it. I have seven sites scattered across the East Coast I keep track of in Orion. Just created a custom field called "Site" then created the Dynamic group this way: Settings > Manage Groups > Add New Group > Filled in Name and Description, > Next > Add Dynamic Query button > Named the Dynamic…

We're having the exact same issue after we just updated to NPM 11.5.2 and SAM 6.2.1 last week, except we have a single server doing all the polling and over 80 percent of our machines use WMI. Every morning we need to kill the svchost.exe process linked to the "RpcSs (Remote Procedure Call)" and "RpcEptMapper (RPC Endpoint…

Thought that might have been the case, because when I stumbled across the answer after our old Exchange Server bit the dust, it seemed almost too easy. Although I have to admit, it took me a couple of days to figure out why I still wasn't getting any alerts after I changed the settings in the "Manage SMTP Servers" link.…

I've got the same message on one of my servers and it has NOT been virtualized. When I click the List Resources tab, it will show me all the hardware devices it found (new volumes, etc) and I can select them, and it acts like it imports them when I save the changes, but if I go back later, they are not there again. It's a…

Thanks. After poking around some more I found the services running in that troublesome svhost are actually Remote Procedure Call Endpoint Mapper (rpceptmapper) and Remote Procedure Call (rpcss) and not the WMI service. Right now I've stopped all Orion Services to see if I still get that spike, which will then rule out…

Thank you ">aLTeReGo! This is exactly what I was looking for!

It took me some digging to find the answer to this, but it can be done via the Web interface. This is how I did it. 1) Log into Orion and Click on Settings in Upper Right hand corner. Then when the Settings page loads, look under the REPORTS AND ALERTS section and click on INITIAL ALERTING SETUP and not Manage SMTP…

We just drive our NOC view from our Help Desk operator's PC. It's a Win7, i5 box with 6 gb of ram that we attached a 42" LCD TV to act as a secondary monitor. Then we just open Chrome push it up to that top screen, go to our SolarWinds site and launch the NOC View. That PC rarely gets shut down so it's always up there and…
