Mithrihall It would be great if you could post your code? Thanks Jon

Thanks Mithrilhall, that should do until Solarwinds integrate Cirrus into Orion. Jon

I've had the same problem with querying our 2950 switches I can get the first interface vlan ID but it doesn't pull back the other 49 interfaces. I had a call in with Solarwinds and I need to chase to see whats happening with it. Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Gob Looks good from the screen shot but I'm not sure where to place the files or where to put the block of code that you mention in the TXT I don't have an Orion foler off the Solarwinds Inetpub folder, do I have to creat the folder and legacy file? Thanks Jon

If you want to get best your performace your probably better off putting SQL onto a seperate box so that the polling engine and Orion site work at peak efficiency. Currently the spec we are using is Polling Engine and Orion Dual Xeon 1.6 2Gig Ram Windows 2000 SQL Dual Xeon 1.6 2 Gig Ram Windows 2000 We currently have 3500…

Yes, we currently use Crystal to pull together some reports that we can't get out of Report Writer, the big benefit we've found is the ability to do graphs which when your showing management is a lot easy to explain than pages of numbers :-). It's not easy to do as you have to work out what table is linked to what table…

I asked this of support late last year and currently Orion does not support Cisco LWAPP WLC but they are looking into supporitng it in the future. HTH Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Here here I find it frustrating trying to run a script in Cirrus overnight that requires TFTP and remeber to start the TFTP server, it would be great if it could be upgraded to run as a service then I wouldn't have to worry. Thanks Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

I've done a repair of my Orion install as suggested by Mark and it has so far solved the issue with breaks in data, there hasn't been one all day. Jon

I've got exactly the same problem, I've checked the timeframe as suggested but all mine are set to none and I'm still getting patchy data. It's particularly a problem for our UPS temp probes as we are meant to be reporting on temperature flutuactions but currently we can't. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks Jon

Just upgraded to 7.3 and it seems to of solved the false positives on packet loss. One of the changes that is mentioned in the Release notes is the ability to change the number of retries SNMP takes before it reports packet loss. It mentions a registery setting but thats it, checked the admin guide and thats still 7.1.…

I have created a custom poller that gives two graphs for the RP and SP processors as we tripped up a couple of times with the RP was hitting 50% and the SP was around 10% and the graph was only showing 30%. This is no different to the multi core CPU in servers the graph is only an avg. of all processors so is not useful at…

I tried but gave up, I was hoping it could be done with v9 Orion but Cisco in there wisdom don't do anything normally and that won't be supported until a later release of Orion.

Josh Will there be any training or bootcamp for Cirrus in the future. Thanks Jon

I've managed to get the Excel Add-In working and managed to find serial no. etc but I'm having problems trying to find the OID for the MAC address. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

I've turned on Syslog for a couple of devices for testing and it seems to work OK currently I'm only accepting errors, alerts and emergency notifications but I don't know what overhead the syslog server has for discarding the un-required sys log entries. It would be good for Solarwinds to put some figures on memory and…

We use a Dell 2850 with 2gb of RAM and a Dual 3ghz Xeon. This is just for the Orion frontend and admin the database sits on it's own box similar to above we are monitoring around 3500 elements. What I will say is that since we moved the database from the same box to a different box Orion seems to be responding a lot…

Mark Will SP3 be made part of the full 8.5.1 install as I'm now considering upgrading? Thanks Jon

Just to let you all know, I've had a copy of the Alpha of v8 and it supports custom mib polling and it works really well that is once youce found the OID you want to poll. HTH Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Dave I don't think your on your own, I've looked at the schedule discovery and while it would be useful to have some measure of auto generating maps, topology DB and Node search within NCM the downside of always being told every single switch your monitoring has new items discovered (we only monitor the uplinks and nothing…

Why would you want to put Orion on a desktop based OS rather than a full sever based OS? I think Soalrwinds should stick to server based OS's and concentrate on features and not on support for OS's. Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

When I upgraded to v7.7 the Engineers toolset worked perfectly from my laptop without any changes, apart from he syslog server this has to be one of the best improvements to Orion. IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Thanks for the it will be very useful. We are in the process of migrating to v8.1 and would like to use SNMP v3 with all our Cisco kit, is there an easy way of cofiguring it for multiple devices in Orion or is it a DB hack? Thanks Jon

We are currently monitoring approximately 120 3COM 4400 and 3300's, couple of 4007 and an XRN solution and apart from the 4007 everything works fine and everything is monitored OK. The 4007 does not report how the switch is populated just the Gbic module with the layer 3 function. It would be great to be able to add…

Is there anyway of turning off NPM monitoring in the NCM standalone scenario? If not can this be raised as a feature request. My thought of a workaround for this would be to changethe polling times to a large value, what's the max polling time that can be set?

The way I currently do it is to have a line in a script that selects the first 24 ports then the commands I want to run the a line that selects the remaining 24 ports and the commands I want to run on those, it errors for any of the 24 port devices but works. You can break it down further if you have smaller switches. conf…
