In fact, we have just completed an overhaul on one of our data centres and I've just started the sketchup drawing and map design to reflect it. We have had intelligent PDU's this time which report on power usage from each socket above the cabs. So I've added those in and the UPS and air-con monitors

That doesnt suprise me about the usa but they have a huge foot hole here in the UK and across Europe. Maybe thats why. It used to be Fujitsu Siemens & they arent a big US brand either. However saying that, they are one of the four hardware providers that intel use for testing all new server technology & processors on.…

I Think your right, even this older version pre SAM screenshot shows that & Im a few versions out. Working at a major hospital & providing 24/7 support. Its all about turn around time for me. I need the most specific details a system can provide regarding the hardware thats failing so I can either raise a support call,…

Completely agree. Yes it does take longer to create a room map that drills to a cab map, that drills to a server map. I guarantee if you combine the time spent designing it massively exceed the time your collegues and other departments will save by having that view of your organisation and simple problem locating. I've…

No promises but feel free to drop me a line if your struggling with any of it. I will do my best to help, I have a couple of friends who know it inside out

sorry about the delay James. It appears sketchup has been bought from Google and the older version of the software points to the old models site. Not to worry, all you have to do is go to https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/?hl=en and it will take you straight to the correct address to search the models database and download…

So the stories would have you believe. Along with a wolf blowing houses over I might add.

Thanks Cobrien, I've successfully managed to add it as an ICMP node now and it's reporting back as node being up

Easy tiger, I also have an unlimited license for NPM and works great with the cisco hardware. Its only SAM Im talking about, Im not disgruntled. Any of the members above will tell you ServerView that comes on DVD with each server & does all the things you said and centralised alerting. I was hoping to bring them together…
-
Just as a side note, I mentioned that you have access to all other users uploads within Sketchup. You can browse by type and then download their models and manipulate to your hearts content. Mine is in there if you wanted to dismantle it and see how it comes together

I'm struggling to add my Cisco ACI entity to SolarWinds NPM 12.4. I get a successful test result back from the Poll for Cisco ACI username and Password but I cannot get my SNMP Community name accepted. All I get back is 'Node does not respond with the supplied read/write community string'

I was unsure when I started mapping out our server room, if I was actually going to gain anything by it. I am glad I did however, its so much easier to drill down the maps from the top down to the nic or port or server thats at fault. It's saved so much diagnosis time in my opinion

I know its been a while JohnDee but just incase your still using sketchup. Where you have a jagged edge down your CAB. You can click the object. Then from the Window menu at the top select "Soften Edges". Drag the slider to increase the effect and you should notice that the jagged edges have gone.
-
That looks good. I must admit if I had enough room to take a photo of the rack from top to bottom I did that, purely to make it simple.
-
Looks good, I think its under the windows tab at the top a util called soften edges which helps to forgive anything misaligned. Then view it at different angles and set camera angle on each and thats how I created the animation that circles the room and enters the door.
-
A Couple of different ways JonDee. I first listed all my cabs and hardware models, opened up Google Images and started searching for a suitable image of each. I theN cut the white space off and aligned the ones on weird angle and put them into a folder. I then got an image of an empty PrimeCenter Rack and literally dragged…

Alex, I have no CAD background but plenty of patience. The best thing about this was the huge amount of sample objects available from their online library. You need a table just search for table and all samples as well as other users uploads become available to you. Everything down to a wall socket, that being said you may…

NO problem Kurt, feel free to drop me a message if you need any help

JUst checked for you and it appears Google no longer own Sketchup. Not to worry, the new owners still have a free download. Download SketchUp | SketchUp If you want a copy of anything above to build off or modify let me know.

ITs a program called sketchup Kurt, Im no cad designer and this one was nice and easy to use with loads of tutorials on youtube. Best of all there was a free eval version. You can also animatehttp://www.entireit.net/server_room_new.gif

I use both SolarWinds and the Fujitsu monitoring utilities you get with Fujitsu Servers (ServerView Suite). Here is a screenshot of the the fujitsu monitoring gui you get as part of your hardware purchase.

I Forgot to say Jonathan. We are constantly moving kit around also, but once you have a folder created of your various hardware types (courtesy of Google Images) Your only dragging the servers on and off your rack image. My default background is an empty cab. The servers are additional overlays that I can move, add and…

DId you find those images in the end zack for your hardware? I was just wondering how it turned out

IF you have the groups defined on the map and you want to see the down nodes or nodes in error then hovering over that group node on the map should show you the down or nodes with errors. As you can see on my map it is showing me the row and rack that has the error and when I hover over it, the individual down/problem…

Hello cppalum, As I just replied to bluefunelemental once your cab view is completed in visio or paint or google sketchup in my case, Make sure your image is named EXACTLY the same as the GROUP name you used for your devices. Get one character different or use an upper case letter for one and not in the other, it just…
-
And you would be right, Its not quick to do but after the first couple you get into a rhythm. If like Fujitsu your preferred hardware has volumes of images in google images. I create an empty CAB scaled and once my models are scaled also it becomes a copy and paste then to create the cab content. Bare in mind, the time it…

Yep, I came to the same conclusions and that's why I took it up a level and went for the server room view for the top level map. As you can see from the screenshot, on the left is my server room view with the Row and CAB shown above each cab. These descriptions are also the group names I used in order to group each server…
