If you have a partially or fully virtualized environment you need to run a performance and capacity analysis at least once a year. Find those VMs that someone built but never used, that group that owns 25 VMs but could consolidate the workload onto 12, the lazy developer who keeps piling apps to one server and never bother…

Not all of us eat bacon regularly, and some never partake for various reasons either sacred or secular. I therefore propose instead to find a Coffee of the Month Club. After all, for the vast majority of IT pros coffee is the fuel that lights our pilots, the jolt that frees our minds, and the sustenance that preserves our…

For Thursday's question it would have helped to realize that there are two online demo systems showing different numbers of Storage Arrays in the Warning state.

Oh, there are so many! I can roll my tongue (not everyone can!), raise an eyebrow, cross my eyes, wiggle my ears. I can also bark up the wrong tree, jump to conclusions, and leap before I look. I also have a really hard head, but that actually has come in handy.

Weirdly I could not access that link on Firefox, but I was able to do so on IE.

The classic Transformers, not the modern overloud, mindless, pointless shlock!

Well of course that part is true, about the high IQs.

Facebook is a useful tool for people to keep in touch with distant friends, and to follow businesses of various types in which we are interested. The issue with it, as with any other such social interaction tool, is what data you feed into it. And what control do you have over what other people feed into Facebook? I've had…

Toto is continuing character in the books, and later tells Dorothy he always could have talked, but hadn't met anyone else interesting to speak with.

Oh Carrie, how we miss you.

I worked for Lehman Brothers. 17 years, up until the day the company went under in 2008. Lucky point #1 - I knew enough to be kept on for a little while, though it turned out just long enough to pick my brain, which also happened to be long enough for me to read through documentation on a major upgrade to the software that…

I have a script to pre-schedule unmanage windows, and will be building a webpage around it. If the app can do it instead of me having to custom build so much the better.

I was surprised at first, given how expensive the James Webb telescope is, but then I realized it's only a bag that resembles the telescope. And here I was thinking one of us would have the chance to be the first to discover an alien civilization on a planet orbiting another star!

For Wednesday's question, yes, it sometimes feels like I'm the only one who can answer!

Writing backwards is one of those rarely-useful yet interesting-to-watch skills. I learned to read (English) upside down because my wife always takes the specials menu at restaurants, so I have to read it top down.

One can also work to limit the number of syslogs and traps sent by devices, where the devices allow one to suppress forwarding of such. Letting every device throw every possible message at a logging server is overkill when many of those messages are informational and would never lead to any follow up.

Or perhaps a farce.

Given that InstaTwitFaceSpace are free, one could set up a second account with a different email address, with a limited amount of non-controversial content. I have a second email and social account just for redirecting spam.

One, while siting in a hospital waiting room for a long time, I was subjected to two straight hours of Spongebob Squarepants. I am mentally scarred for life.

Actually, we are all involved in the financial part of our business, so anything practical we can do to improve our company's bottom line is a benefit to us. In theory, of course. In reality, sometimes we make things less expensive and the benefits accrue elsewhere.

Even more than just moving them off C:, it would help to consolidate log files, and actually all Solarwinds application files, into a single application folder tree on Windows. I installed the main application on the D: drive, but find there are SW files in at least 4 directories on the C: drive.

I don't know. Aaaaaaaaa!

Slinky taught physics and mechanics, but then again so did G. I. Joe. I especially liked his working submarine!
