Sometimes it is fortunate to have a test environment that is almost as active as the production environment and each of the teams are reviewing and interacting with each other to verify storage, network, etc activities and requirements. First time that I have heard that it is something other than the network in the 30…

I have ran several simulations with it. Rather like the product. However, I had a real-time application need and was hoping to utilize it to solve my issue. I have a cisco 3845 ISR and I need to upgrade the IOS in it. I wanted to bring up the 3845 image in GNS3 and test the config file and make any changes before moving it…

Haven't moved into the VOIP world in my current position but this would have been beneficial at my previous company. Thanks.

Interesting discussion. I think we all bring tools from our past lives into our environment. The joy is combining them into a usable toolbelt with the rest of the team members.

Where I used to work, we relied heavily on QoS as well as Steelhead compression. This was before the days of MetroE. QoS did work well for T1 links.

Typically, it has been my experience that a stale computer boots up and connects as being the root cause for most of our IP address conflicts. Performing a reboot on one of the conflicted machines seems to resolve the issue. Good communication between groups (help desk, servers, etc) is essential to light up the…

Thanks for posting. Always a good refresher to review the basics. Gone are the days of tech in the basement; the expectation is to be fully immersed with our users/customers. Engaging with them also builds the most important item that I have found -- Trust. To solve issues we IT need all relevant information and if the…
