  • I previously installed 12.0.1 / 2016.2 on it, which is what I was upgrading from. I don't think that installer was online; I installed our 4 components separately. That version was before the days of the Unified Installer.
  • Glad I could help identify the problem.
  • HF5 came out yesterday. Here are the release notes: Orion Platform 2018.2 Hotfix 5 - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
  • Not "Release a Candidate Tester." It's to be a "Release Candidate Tester" which means you're testing the newest version of the software (the Release Candidate) before it's officially declared the new, stable, official "Released" version. I can easily see how this would be confusing terminology for someone who isn't…
  • It was the main poller. The additional polling engines did not use an online installer, that was an APE installer generated by the other installer.
  • Somewhere you're adding some extraneous characters to the command as listed in the template. First I'd verify that the template that you pasted for us is the template being used on the device. Edit Properties on the device and under NCM -> Communication choose this template instead of letting it autodetermine. I'm not able…
  • Found the answer. UDT 3.2.4 supports, among other versions, SQL Server 2016 Express, Standard, or Enterprise Reference: UDT 3.2.4 system requirements - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
  • We had the same issue. It's not a size issue but an issue of "your table contains a number that is too big." We had to truncate some of the tables for APM to get rid of this data. I'll be making our 3rd upgrade attempt tonight (2nd failure wasn't Solarwinds' fault.) I'm told by Customer Service that this has successfully…
  • bobmarley, the upgrade instructions include a step to break HA, and then stop Orion services on all servers. The upgrade needs unhindered database access, so everything must be offline while that happens. However, when doing Windows or other updates, you can migrate polled nodes off of each APE before rebooting it to…
  • Sounds like an opportunity for improvement: Set up an "IS Orion Alerts" list in your organization and configure all alerts to go to that, rather than to individual addresses. Then you can easily add and remove individuals from the list, rather than from Orion. You could, of course, get more granular by defining additional…
  • We found the solution, though not the exact root cause. Installing all Windows updates and rebooting (again; it wasn't the reboot alone that solved it!) finally allowed us to start the Orion processes without pegging the CPU. Our assumption is that there was a performance patch included, although we have not checked each…
  • This would be my recommendation as well, PROVIDED that no devices in the network will cause issues if the incorrect command is run on them. In the above scenario I don't see it being a problem, but what if both logging 1.1.1.1 and logging server 1.1.1.1 are valid commands and having both, or the wrong one, does something…
  • I suppose you could always increase security by using a service account with an insanely long password that no human needs to bother to remember. Just store it in a safe place (you know, like a sticky note under a keyboard. :-) )
  • This is not a Duplex issue - that won't cause Transmit errors, but different kinds of Receive errors on the different ends of the interface. You will see CRC and Frame errors on the Full Duplex side, and you will see Collisions and Late Collisions on the Half Duplex side. None of these is a Transmit Error.
  • This should probably be posted in Network Performance Monitor, not Contests and Missions.
  • Not sure about a radio button, but there's a super-easy workaround: In your script, just add the line "copy run start" or "Write mem" at the end.
  • We have alerts for specific types of errors, in addition to keeping records of utilization and such. We only get alerts for interface down after 4 hours -- no need to get pinged every time someone takes a server offline for patching or whatever. We'll get the notice on the server itself being down if it's something…
  • bharris, we are starting a project to implement SQL AlwaysOn. I ran into the same issue with the blank in the chart under UDT on SQL2016. I'm looking for the same answer.
  • If this is still an issue for you, you can do it easily with the newest version of Orion. Go to Settings -> All Settings -> Manage Alerts Create a new alert Give it a name, description, turn it on, and set an evaluation frequency. Click next. Set the trigger condition: Alert on Interface. Scope: Interface Status is not…
  • You can modify the way capacity is calculated in the Calculation Settings. See page 166 of the Virtualization Manager Administrator Guide for more info: http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/vMan/docs/pdf/en-US/SolarWinds_Virtualization_Manager_Admin_Guide.pdf?CMPSource=…
  • Upgraded last Thursday night. Third attempt, and finally a success! First attempt I ran into database issues. Something about ID numbers in the APM tables being too large to squeeze into an integer. I recommended an upgrade to the pre-flight checklist to automatically scan the database for any numbers which are too large…
  • I was hoping to be one of the 99% with no problems, but I'm one of the 1% that ran into issues during the upgrade. These issues forced a rollback. Prior to beginning, we had upgraded the virtual hardware to increase RAM and CPU as well as upgrading Windows to 2012 (the latest supported by our company at the time) and…
  • I can't tell you what is causing these, but I can tell you that it's not a speed or duplex mismatch. 1) A Speed mismatch will not allow the link to come up. If either side is Auto, it will correctly detect the highest speed supported by the other side, even if hard-coded. 2) A Duplex mismatch cannot occur at 1000 Mbps.…
  • @khun, There is a ton of documentation, including several "getting started" guides here: IP Address Manager (IPAM) - Updated February 17, 2016 Here is a guide on troubleshooting and resolving IP address conflicts: IP Address Conflict – Resolve IP Address Conflict | SolarWinds If you have a managed switch (most home…
  • I'm thinking that some of the switches you intend to include are reporting different info for one of the many things you're testing. Check each of those comparisons on a switch that you think it should include but it doesn't. You'll probably find one difference that's causing it to be left out. My reports usually have…
  • I'm not seeing exactly the numbers you're asking for, but here are a bunch of UPS monitoring OIDs that may point you in the right direction: https://wiki.netxms.org/wiki/UPS_Monitoring_(APC)_via_SNMP
  • Check out the Web Performance Monitor Website Monitoring & Performance Software | SolarWinds You're not "pinging" the website. What you want to do is load a page, verify that it's complete (i.e. not a 404 error, etc) and time how long it takes to load. You could do that with custom scripts too: time curl www.website.com |…
  • We migrated ALL polling off the server and CPU remained at 100% Then we stopped Solarwinds altogether. Solarwinds Controller Polling Collector was hung. Force killed Brought the Solarwinds services back up, still with 0 devices being polled and the CPU returned to 100% utilization. Why would Orion use any significant…
  • I'm not sure about your first question. It seems that if it logs in, the connection has already been accepted, so there's no reason that it should report Connection Refused at that point. One possible workaround (or at least option to try) is to write the passwords in hashed format instead of plaintext. Then you'll have a…
  • 1. Am I completely nuts for not wanting to add the non-production switches to Solarwinds, use NCM to update them, then remove them from Solarwinds? Some of the switches have never been out of the box. -No, this sounds reasonable to me. I would recommend setting them up not to trigger alerts, unless you actually want to see…
