If you have cisco devices you can use Port-Security to only allow one MAC address per port. Then you can leverage Syslog or Traps to be notified about violations.
-
I would be curious to hear what other people are looking for or what they are currently using right now. Anyone care to share?
-
You could unmanage the node for the time period that you select. You can do this on the Node Management page.
-
Kevin, I think this Forum is for the Netflow Orion module, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Are you using the real-time netflow tool form SW?
-
Edwin, Where does the Flow Storage Database (FSDB) reside? What resources are allocated to it?
-
Policies & Rules are kept in the DB. So as long as you keep your DB and move it to your production environment you will be fine.
-
Anyone out there or at SW have a SQL Query for this?
-
I tested this and it doesn't seem to work, anyone have any ideas?
-
Put in a UPS and monitor the power.
-
Can you provide us with an element count? It might be beneficial to stack the additional polling engines to reduce hardware and maintenance overhead.
-
It wouldn't hurt to stop the polling service on your Orion servers before taking down the SQL server. I've never had anything bad happen either way.
-
What about the SQL server, that will be the most important hardware of your deployment.
-
It looks like you might be having an issue polling that device as several items appear to be in an unknown state. Can you verify that NPM is capable of polling the WLC and the wireless button is checked under the list resources. Jeff

Have you looked at this guide yet? http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/Netflow/docs/understandingciscoasanetflow.pdf

Do your MPLS devices have TTL propagation disabled?
-
Not sure if this is what you're looking for but it will allow you to customize views. It is under the user settings.

Do you have APM? There is a user experience monitor called the Download Speed Monitor. Would something like this work for you? This component monitor measures the time it takes to download data from the target node The target node must be running a Character Generator service. Statistic: Download speed in KB/s (1024 bytes…

The polling engines can now support connection interruptions from the database. They basically use a store and forward, so when the connection is lost they will queue the data until the connection is restored. They should be able to handle a connection interruption of around 45-50 minutes. To configure the maximum…

Pretty sure there is a rather large list in the Admin Guides.
-
Why not use the Report Writer for this? You can then use the export features.
-
Yes, this is very possible. Most people leverage our SDK/API which you can get information about here; Orion SDK Information. Also, this document talks about 3rd party integration; http://solarwinds-marketing.s3.amazonaws.com/solarwinds/whitepapers/SolarWinds+Integration+with+3rd+Party+Products+FINAL… Hope this helps.

This is a good post to reference too;

I'm curious what you're having trouble with in the web management?
-
Art, It's typically more about the number of elements per Orion instance. We have customers that run ~100,000 elements per environment with no performance issues. The environment you've described is very similar in size to the one I managed at WKU. I'd be happy to discuss that setup if you're interested. Jeff
-
It should be there. If you want to check the folder to see if maybe the shortcut has been removed it should be located here; C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NPM\
-
This is totally off the top of my head, but we were trying to decide if we wanted to start using the SUP6 instead of the 5 and I thought I read something about netflow not being supported on a SUP6. Not sure that would make sense....
-
Did you setup the storage requirements under the NCM settings? This is required for the binary configs.
-
I'm pretty sure it's all in the DB.
-
You could use the 'unpluggable' setting for the ports that are always down or put them in an admin down status. The you can use the alert for when an interfaces is in a down state. Jeff

We recommend you install this on a separate server. Below are the requirements based on environment size; Main Server Requirements Server Requirements (based on usage level): * Up to 1000 users* 30 GB Hard Drive * 4 GB Memory * From 1,001 to 4,000 users* 40 GB Hard Drive * 8 GB Memory * Greater than 4,000 users* 40 GB Hard…
