I have NPM 11.5.2, issue hasn't been resolved. Looks like the work around is the best "solution" so far.

You are correct sgtp. Your solution worked for me because our NTP server IPs only differ in the 2nd octet. The first, third and fourth octets are all the same.

Hi Peter, I contacted Solarwinds Support (my company has support for our licensed Solarwinds products) and was told to go online and post on Thwack. I was able to resolve this issue through the Orion web console (Settings -> NCM Settings -> Network-> SCP Server -> Specify a config transfer directory). It's been 3 days and…

Hi Jan, Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. It still reverted back to the default "SFTP_Root" folder even after I changed it twice. I also uninstalled it and reinstalled but there's no option to specify the root directory during installation. This design is really awful.

Thanks for this info. I've stared at this for a while but could not see that I also made the same mistake. Interestingly, when I tested this out, I was able to send the email to myself via telnet to the SMTP server using the "@" symbol (smtp@mycompany.com). I'm all set. Thanks for your help, I can't believe the answer was…

Forgot to add, maybe you can check with Solarwinds to see if there is a device template for the version of Checkpoint devices you are trying to backup via NCM.
-
Thanks for sharing, Yann. This worked for me.
-
Thank you so much, sgtp. Your suggestion worked!!! Parenthesis can be powerful.
-
Thanks a lot, Chris T. I will give that a shot.

I'm running into the same issue. I have SFTP and SCP allowed on TCP port 22. I am able to authenticate but I keep getting "Server refused to start a shell/command". I am using WinSCP on a Windows server to another Windows server. Has anyone successfully connected via SCP? What did you do to get it to work?

There is a nightly image backup of both the server and the database. Unfortunately, we can't upgrade a module at a time. The bureaucracy in place with change management and the CAB will not allow for that.
-
Thank you for your input, Fastcar23. The last time we did an upgrade, it lasted 12 hours! So I just want to make sure we've looked at every possible scenario.
-
Thanks for your input Rob. Unfortunately we are still on version 10.6 for NPM but that additional functionality in version 10.7 sure sounds tempting enough to upgrade.
-
Just add it to your Orion Reports folder. Open it up via Report Writer on your Orion server. Under the time range tab, use the drop down menu to select the time range you are interested in, 24 hours, 7 days, last 30 days etc.
-
Thanks Alex. This works!!!

I take it that none of the developers that created this server (SCP/SFTP) has any clue on how to resolve this. It would be nice to know why this product was designed without a means of selecting the root directory. Why offer it if it won't work?
-
I forgot to add that the SCP/SFTP server is running on Win Server 2008 R2 standard - Service pack 1, 64 bit server.

Hello pdhineshk, We tried to use NCM to backup our Checkpoint FWs but ran into a multitude of problems. So now we FTP the configs over to an external server.
-
The last time we ran into this issue we had to extend the timeout timer. So NCM Settings -> Config. We went up to 10 minute and also reduced the number of simultaneous downloads. At the time, the CPU on our Solarwinds server was spiking consistently. Once that was resolved, we were able to drag down the timer to 4 minutes…

I'm running NCM 7.4 and there is an option to update 1 or as many reports as you want. So, you may want to consider an upgrade for this feature. To run a report you can click on "view report" or click on the name of the report. As far as remediation scripts, I can't comment on that as I've never used that feature. I use…

Cisco certs and Citrix. Cisco because they are ubiquitous in networking. I put Citrix on the list because I need to learn it for work.

We ran into the same issue. None of our scheduled jobs ran. The resolution was to recreate the jobs from scratch (a very annoying task) and delete the original ones.

I know this is from several years ago. I was in a similar situation as david.jones where our Orion SQL database was installed on the C drive. We installed another drive and migrated the database over to it. To get Orion to recognize the change, we ran the Configuration Wizard on the Orion Server after the migration. That…

This is how I segregated my switches. It's annoying but it works for now. I created a custom property where I set all the access-layer switches to yes. Then in the policy report, I chose the dynamic selection and used the custom property for all nodes set to 1 (yes). I then grouped all the access layer policies into 1…

I've been told that it is not possible for NCM to backup Infoblox. Infoblox does not have the option to initiate a backup via CLI and I was told this is crucial to developing a device template to backup Infoblox.

Hello dreeves, Were you able to resolve this? We are experiencing the same issue. Some jobs are able to send an email after they run. Others fail with error message "The transport failed to connect to the server". The only difference between the jobs that work and those that don't is the email subject and the time the job…

Something else you could try is to limit the number of concurrent downloads to a number lower than the default of 10. This is located under NCM settings -> Config (see image below). When we ran into this issue the CPU on our Solarwinds server was spiking close to 100%, we reduced the number of concurrent downloads to 5 and…

Hello Craig, I had the same question. Mine is set to search the running config. I contacted Support and was told that it only searches the most recent config backup. They had me test by making a change that will violate one of the policies. I re-ran the report and it didn't catch it. After downloading a copy of the config…
