Good point Mike Driskell. I'll get to that too. Thanks, Joe b

Hmmm... You make a good point about looking for "chatty" NICs on the network. If I'm monitoring interfaces on the server side of things I'd have an easier time finding out who the guilty party is. Thanks, Joe B

I did a capture on both a cooperative and an uncooperative workstation and I don't see anything out of order; they're both sending back information. Is there something specific I can look for? One thing I learned is that the Community String is passed in clear text. That surprised me.I'm pretty new to SNMP so I'm still in…

Thank you shuth! I didn't configure the alerts to be forwarded to the syslog server but I just checked and sure enough they were in there. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention when I was configuring the alerts to go to my cell phone. I'll check the SQL server over the weekend and see what happens now that I've turned…

Thanks Jeff, that was a part of the process. Then I had to go to Node Management and manually delete the interfaces. They are gone now and I'm ready to eliminate any Virtual Memory volumes. I should have gone with the 250 node license but I just didn't have the $$$. Thanks again, Joe B

Hi shuth, I never configured syslog/trap messages that I know of but I did see that the SolarWinds Syslog Service is running on the server. I read something in a Google search about only keeping Warning and Critical messages. I'll look through the manual to see if I can find out how to make it drop everything else. My…

Found it! Since the server running my NPM is in another part of our facility I run it using the web console. I logged onto the server and found what I needed under Start > All Programs > SolarWinds > SolarWinds License Manager. I opened the license manager and there was the Activate button I've been looking for. FINALLY!!!…

Thanks netlogix, I just sent him an email asking him to look into it. Thanks, Joe B

Thank you GoldTipu, but like puanani stated I want to be able to create new tabs. I could create menus under the existing tabs but I would prefer new tabs. Is there a way to create new tabs? Thanks, Joe B

Yep, the SL100 license is restricting me to 100 elements per. Here's the message I received when I tried to add some switch ports: ============================================ You have selected to import more interfaces than you license allows. You are licensed for 100 interfaces. You have selected to import 5 interfaces…

Yep, that's the ticket. Thanks, Joe B

Yes, I've confirmed that all of the workstations have SNMP correctly configured. Thanks, Joe B

Thanks Casey, that'll help me down the road.

Removing the NICs and rediscovering them didn't work. I finally deleted the all of my servers from NPM and then rediscovered them. NOW the NICs are working. Well, if you'll excuse me, I have a lot of computers to delete and rediscover. Thanks, Joe B

Sigh, I guess I should have experimented with it a little more. Thanks for the tip, Joe B

I'm pretty sure I did but I don't remember. Sadly, I now have two years of maintenance paid for because I updated my NPM last month and not my Engineers' Toolset. I can go to my portal and see that there's an activation key there but how do I get it into my NPM software? FWIW I just emailed Solarwinds to see about…

Hi Mike, I don't recall configuring any Syslogging or SNMP Trapping when I was setting up my NPM but that doesn't mean I didn't. Where would I look to see if those things have been configured? My SQL guy just checked and the table that's filling up is TrapVarBinds. If I AM doing SNMP Trapping how do I turn it off? Thanks,…

Hi Marie, I did check the Knowledge Base but didn't find anything that was relevant to my issue. As to the Service Pack, I thought I had installed it but I can't find anything in my Orion settings that says the Service Pack is installed. I'll do that next. Thanks, Joe B

Thanks Floyd. Not the response I was hoping for but yeah, increasing the frequency of polling on the "other systems" shouldn't hurt me too bad. Thanks, Joe B

LOL, I was hoping that the answer would be simple but THAT simple? It works just fine that way. Thanks for the help, Joe B

I'm running SL100 and I believe it's keeping me to the 100/100/100 limitation. I'll do another discover and see if I can pass the 100 Interface limit (I'm at 95 right now) and post my results. Thanks, Joe B

Well, there's always the look-in-the-address-tables-of-my-switches-until-I-find-the-MAC-address-I'm-looking-for alternative. Thanks for the reply. Thanks, Joe B

Sheesh, here we go AGAIN. Now that I've post my question I see that every time I go in to Network Atlas there's a new map created for me. Seems like I never find my answer until I post the question, then I discover how simple my question was. Oh well, at least I'm making progress with my software. Thanks, Joe B

Oh yeah, two servers started reporting network traffic at the same time everything else pretty much died. Go figure. Thanks, Joe B

Ok, it's not just inferfaces--I'm going to need to pull some Virtual Memory volumes off so I can get some more hard drive volumes on. Thanks, Joe B

I just checked and we're at 48.9 gigs of SolarWinds data on the SQL server; I think I'm losing about 400MB a day. Yesterday I went to Polling Statistics and changed the Daily *** Statistics retention from 365 days to 180 thinking that last night's DB maintenance would free up some space but no joy. SO, if anyone has any…

Hi Andrew Pacetti, I checked SysLog and Total Space Usage is 0 bytes. Hi netlogix, my SQL guy has already shrunk the... I don't know if it was a table or a database but we went from 22 gigs for TrapVarBinds down to 9.2 gigs. I don't remember the name of the other... table/DB that he shrank. This sounds like a temporary fix…

Ok, here's an interesting discovery--the IP Network Browser in my Engineers' Toolset can see everything in the switch using the same SNMP community name. I double-checked and the SNMP configuration in the switch is correct for both servers. Any ideas on why that's happening? Thanks, Joe B
-
Never mind. I was trying to use the interfaces on the switches to create the connections instead of the switches themselves. I used the switches, the connections were created, and all is well. Thanks, Joe B
