Cisco uses NetFlow, which we just supported the sampling rate in NTA last release. jFlow on Juniper devices, when being sampled shows an incorrect value in NTA when compared to NPM. You all have already noticed that. We are looking at supporting this in the future. Stay tuned...The "What we are working on" post for NTA…

Hey there, you will not need a new SQL server to support the NTA Flow Storage Database. This can be installed in parallel on the same machine as your SQL DB. Additionally the Flow Storage DB can be installed on your main poller, or on any other machine on your network. We have made sure to build in support for all…

This is a great request, well defined. It's these types of use cases that really help us as we look at extending the reporting functionality in NTA. Would love to see more like this from the community.

Hi Steven, Yes! part of the work we are doing is removing the flow storage and processing from the NPM SQL DB. NTA will still need to maintain a connection to the NPM for CBQoS data and a few other smaller things but the large burden of storing and processing flow data into the NPM DB will be alleviated.
-
Hi Richard, yes the Flow Storage Database can be run on that machine.
-
Upgrading to NTA 4.0 should drastically improve your performance. I am curious, do you do lots of CBQoS monitoring?
-
Hey, thanks for volunteering for the beta test I will post back here when its available. I am not at live this week but there are quite a few of my fellow SolarWinders there, if you stop by say hi to Jeremy for me

So, to try to be super clear here: The majority of the CPU/MEM churn on the NPM DB from NTA is all around the flow processing and DB I/O, this is what is specifically targeted to alleviate from the NPM/Orion DB. When I said NTA needs to maintain a connection to the NPM DB, that was not meant to say CPU and MEM will…

Hi Mustafa, I have posted an updated What we are working on post. Thanks for following up!
-
* NTA will have its own database, NTA will still be a module of Orion NPM, NTA will still require a connection to the NPM DB (we will still need to know NPM stats and CBQoS information) * We will be providing a data migration solution for all customers that wish to move historical data. Hope that helps!

The full release of 3.11 should be available in your customer portal. Please ping me if you do not see it available under the License and Maintenance tab. I did some research on what you meant by The NetFlow issue with vCenter/esx 5.1 and couldnt find any open ticket or other reference. Feel free to ping me directly with…

Hello J, NBAR is definitely being considered here at SolarWinds, I really appreciate the fact that you brought this up on the forum again. It is has been long discussed and is currently the #1 most voted feature request in the Idea's and Feature Request section. Your feedback is valued and we are listening. The requests…

Hey there, I would suggest running a search on your computer for that file, it may be that orion was installed in a diferent directory. Additionally, we just release NTA 3.11 which includes these hotfixes as well some new feature support. You can find NTA v3.11 in your customer portal under the licensing and maintenance…

invitations sent! ping me if you have issues or questions.

Thanks Mustafa, I have opened a Feature Request. It can be found here

Thanks for helping us with this Mustafa, I am sorry that the "Support of Sampled NetFlow" doesn't help you as much as you need. I have documented your request to support Jflow sampling rates.

Hey there, great thread. This question is super relevant to the next release of NTA. Wonderz has accuratly communicated the constraints that the current version of NTA has and how the DB can be impacted. NTA provides great data thats for certain, however the impact on the DB can be costly. Scalability and Performance are…

Hi, I think this would be most quickly resolved if you opened a ticket with support. They will be able to look further into the diagnostics and get you back up and running.
-
There is a specific set of windows performance counters for NTA. You can find that information there.

Hello, Those Netgear routers do not use any flow based protocols that NetFlow Traffic Analyzer would be able to recognize and report on. It is likely that if you were to deploy nProbe (3rd party solution) you would then be able to get bandwidth usage metrics out of those devices. Here is post on how this can be done:…

Hi, check these posts out, they are both relevant and may shed some light on the issue you are having. http://thwack.solarwinds.com/community/solarwinds-community/product-blog/blog/2009/11/10/orion-nta-and-nprobe-analyzing-bandwidth-hogs-without-flow-capable-network-equipment…

Hi Leny, We are looking at allowing these colors to be customizable in the long term however we do not have support for changing the chart colors today. -Jacob

Hello, Here is a KB that talks about which fields are currently supported. Custom fields in Flexible NetFlow are not currently supported. As we are receiving more requests for additional field support in Flexible NetFlow I have created a feature request here for people to vote on.

Hi Richard, I think you just got the heads up, we recently started the NTA Beta and have begun talking about this. Can the Netflow database be remote? YES Is this local database replicated and supported using the failover engine? The NTA DB can be installed locally or remotely is there a way to accurately estimate the…

Hi Raul, you can stop the Netfow data by configuring your interface to stop sending Netflow data, the commands may vary depending on the device. Example: To disable flow export on Cisco ASA, apply the following commands: (config)#no policy-map global_policy (config)# no class-map netflow-export-class (config)# no…

Hey there, The MAC address is not stored from NetFlow data in NTA. Hi there, Polling engines do not organically begin to shut down SolarWinds process. which makes the second question redundant. Considering you are posting here in the NTA forum and not in the NPM forum about the performance, I would recommend cranking up the sampling rate on your flows. What you may be experiencing is a…

Hello Pvaldes, How frequently do you want to run the report? In the interim the short answer is: “Not at this time”, we don't know of any 3rd party tool that would do what you are looking for. Long-ish answer: After talking with a few folks over here perhaps the best solution for you would be to create a SQL job that runs…

It is possible that the sampling rate was misinterpreted here. Suggest upgrading to 3.11 where we resolved many issues like this.
