There are. I use Lyft instead of Uber. Or did I miss the sarcasm font?

Privilege bracket your vendor or one time use accounts. Like Target, so often access is given but not revoked. A thorough, continually review of accounts to undo privilege creep.

Newbie here. Linked my accounts, but no points awarded. Currently shows the unlink account as my action.

I have. The CISSP was much more difficult. THe saying goes 8 miles wide and one inch deep for the content of CISSP. It covers laws, regulations, pedantic items like how many foot candles the lighting in a garage walkway should be. The difference between mercury and sodium vapor lights. CCNA, straight up tech exam. Shorter…

Ok, there is BOB, but where did they bury Clippy? I have never in my life had such a grudge against an inanimate entity.

rschroeder I had a similar mantra to "Hire people you will enjoy working with. Because people can be taught technical skills to fill the need, but trying to change their personality is a frustrating endeavor" when hiring for service desk. Are you pleasant, can you innately toubleshoot? I can teach you the tech, I can't…

Relatively new user to the SW family and I have to say that the reporting in LEM is a huge turn off. Love LEM, nDepth and the SIEM features. However trying to extract that information into a meaningful report is a ridiculous feat. Assuming that you can even get the Crystal Reports tool working to begin with. This feature…

Being from Florida, I flinch at the phrase "hanging chads".

Due to budget constraints, we only monitor high value workstations and the rest be damned. Balancing act between resources, but it allows us to have insight on systems that are critical or process critical data, without blowing our log space/time/licensing.

Hey, I am a Certified EC-Council Instructor, and deliver CEH and CHFI. The labs moved off XP in v9. There are a few topics such as LM hash and NTLM hash that touch on XP, but don't worry about being able to execute in that environment. The tools will focus on the command line not the OS specific versions. Know which…

Oh god yes!!!! I would be glued to the mission that month!!

Ahh, you gave a much more detailed example. But yes, when I say features, I do mean trade offs, functionality, pros and cons. Trying to get the non-geek and bean counters to realize why products are not equal is the goal in many of my presentations. I really hate when a decision is made solely on cost.

The House That Spied On Me article is exactly why I haven't adopted the smart home mentality. The metadata and leakage of activity is far too concerning. How long before criminals are surveying your devices to find when you aren't home so they can break in? I recently had to replace my coffee pot, deliberately found a…

How do you get all the infrastructure, but NOT THE VERIFICATION??? More security theater.

I really want those mantras on a poster, like a list of Commandments. Completely stealing the TRUE acronym for ROI.

I am smack in the middle of a class on Organizational Behavior, the culture article couldn't be more timely for my studies. Great view on what cutlure actually is, not a dream desired end state, but the pulse of the organization as it stands today.

I would also say that learning NMAP is invaluable. Great first level scanning tool and can even grab the OS fingerprints. Whenever I am guiding a young padawan I have them learn this, with the command lines. Helps ease them into command line and switches. Also, reinforces learning what is running on ports and how to read…

The translation to revenue/cost is a little difficult in my business sector, government. The key is risk and avoidance. You hit the nail on the head rschroeder with showing the money person the impact. Many of my request show what would happen if we do nothing. THe other key way I present (ok, beg) for items is to…

Hopefully this will help kill the pay to win model in gaming. I don't mind purchasing a game. Or if you want to spend money on skins and appearance. It chaps my tushy when after a game I have to spend more money on in game upgrades to even survive, let alone progress.
