Here is a configuration you can use as an example... To add visibility to your VLAN bridging tables, you would then need to add statements such as: snmp-server group GregsGroup v3 priv context vlan-2 read gregsview snmp-server group GregsGroup v3 priv context vlan-3 read gregsview snmp-server group GregsGroup v3 priv…

Just a follow up here as a few folks have contacted me about this issue... The current version (v10.2 as of this post) of switch port mapper (in the Workspace Studio) will correctly get the bridge info using SNMPv3 now, as well as extended VLANs, but you will still need to add the context for each VLAN in the config as…

Sorry I haven't responded for a while folks, I was out last week. Can someone send me a sniff of a 28xx? Thanks, Greg
-
All - we have identified an issue in the Workspace Studio and command line versions of SwitchPortMapper which could cause the results you are seeing. Symptoms: MAC's not showing up on non-default VLANs when retrieving values via SNMPv3 on Cisco switches. * You must still add the context for each VLAN to the group as…

efosshaug - I have been able to get it running under Win7/IE8... HTH, Greg

Thanks Jeff - I got it. --Greg

Nettom - Thanks for the follow up. Sometimes you need to do a pingsweep to load the ARP table of the layer 3 device, otherwise you may not have any IP's to associate the MACs to. Thanks again, Greg

Hi all - just wanted to place a note in this forum... We have posted Engineers Toolset v9.2 Switch Port Mapper - Hotfix 1 in the downloads area. This hotfix addresses the issue where only some of the hostnames were being displayed, even though they had PTR records. Also, we have added a VLAN column, which denotes which…

Hi Hari - I see two transfer attempts in your capture. The device is definitely telling us that it has no config to transfer (packet analysis down below), but I think it might be confused... What happens and what do you see on the debug console when you CLI the following commands: * debug tftp events * debug tftp packets *…

nettom - What is not working correctly for you? What are the results you are seeing, and how is it incorrect? The community@VLANID will only map a single VLAN. --Greg
-
Smartd - Upgrade to 10.4 and give it a whirl. Provided the switch is configured correctly, it (the Workspace Studio Switch Port Mapper) should map a Juniper without issue. --Greg
-
greybirds2 - I am optimistic about the Dashboard SPM, as I have done any SNMPv3 maps with it. What happens when you MIB Browse the Bridge-MIB with the given credentials? Make sure you set the context name in the view... HTH, Greg
-
Jeff - you are correct, there is no need to add anything (context) to the config for SNMv2. The only thing that sticks out in my mind could cause this is a community string with an "@" in it. If that is not the case, PM me and we can setup a Goto to check it out. --Greg

CapnDoody - We have addressed the 32mb limit (Option Size Neg) in the the 9.0 version of the TFTP Server, so you should be OK, but be advised the TFTP client that ships with Windows XP *does not* support files larger than 32mb. HTH, Greg
-
Larry - I did a little digging and the 9.2 TFTP server service is no longer being signed, *but* some of the libraries it uses are, which causes the CRL check you're seeing. Getting unsigned versions of this library would require a new build of the toolset (support can't help you on that). Since these files are shared, I…

For those following this thread, here is the follow-up. We found an issue where certain configurations can cause excessive memory use. We were able to get the fixes for this in the 10.4 release. If you are experiencing this issue, please upgrade. Thanks, Greg

Hey Jeff - Silly question: Is the MAC being found on a trunk port and the "Do not display Cisco trunk ports" option enabled? Does a SwitchPortMap show the MAC? If so, can you send me the output of the MAC Finder log, and a SwitchPortMap of the switch? If SPM does not find it, let's go a Goto to get it figured out. I am not…

greybirds2 - It is possible to use SPM 9.2 with SNMPv3, but you must setup the views for each VLAN as mentioned before. You can also use our newest SwitchPortMapper in the Real-Time Dashboard, which does not require the SNMP-Server views to be setup. You can get the Real-Time Dashboard for free (technical preview) here.…

Can you email me a packet capture of it scanning a single device and the correct community string? Thanks, Greg
-
No problem - and I agree on the VLAN column. --Greg
-
Hari - can you please get me a capture file in the binary pcap format (so I can open it in Wireshark)? The text version you sent in does not have all of the SNMP fields included (specifically the values of the VarBinds). --Greg
-
Richard - Give our support folks a call, they are really good at working through these issues. --Greg
-
ACDII - Make sure you are using the latest version, and also check the application event logs to see if there is an error being reported there. HTH, Greg
-
You can - use Process Explorer from Microsoft. Use the find function with the name of your file. The is another user with the same issue, and he states that the TFTP server is locking the file. We are looking into it what could be causing this. Any info on what client/device, file size, even a packet capture could be…

Yeah, recover the license. Instructions and a download link are provided here. HTH, Greg

You should be able to use the above-mentioned "trick" to run Orion 8.x and Toolset v10 on the same machine. HTH, Greg
-
Stegad - Looks to me like you have a bug to report to your vendor; the device is reporting it has 40 interfaces, but the ifTable only reports information about 24 of them. I will try to make the Bandwidth Gauge not so dependent on the total number of interfaces in a future release to work around this. HTH, Greg
-
isomvc - can you email me a packet capture and the auth and priv passwords (so I can decode in the sniffer?) Thanks, Greg

Hi O - What are your SNMP timeout and retry settings set to? Sometime on high latency nets or slow to respond devices, we can not recognize the device because it does not respond in time... File Menu -> IP Network Browser Settings -> Preferences Tab -> SNMP section... HTH, Greg
