  • Apologies - I overlooked the "single email for multiple nodes" part of your post. I've wanted to implement something like this in my network for awhile. I don't believe that Orion's alert generator is powerful enough to handle this kind of an alert. However, another option, which isn't available yet, but I would imagine…
  • If there is a reply, what is the update time for the web page? Also, check on the polling time that Orion cycles on. Also, if the device is a downline member of an alert group where device 1 is down therefore device 1.a will not even be looked at, is happening. It might just be a matter of timing in Orion. There is no…
  • What type of message do you get, if any? Is it something like "Node is in an Unknown State"? Or is it just down?
  • Sure - I'll see what I can put together tomorrow morning and put it in the post. Here are the links to the Firefox extensions: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/115 - ReloadEvery https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2688 - Tab Slideshow
  • Ah touché, if I had read your post better I suppose I would have seen that In any case, I'm sure Map Maker is doing some kind of compression on the backend. Have you tried sizing the WMF's down to the exact space taken up in the web console? That helped me out as well.
  • It's your call, but Grant's comments are really pretty positive, so I'm surprised at your conclusion. Denny is right - I think there are some great advanced in 9, and I'm happy I upgraded. I'll look forward to seeing the new release that will be completely ASP.NET. The new Universal Poller works great - I'm still learning…
  • I downloaded the demo of ipMonitor today, and I'm trying it out. Really, I think I'm pretty happy with how Orion is running right now. I'd like to be able to do database monitoring, but in my organization, my big database server is MySQL, not MSSQL, so I don't think ipMonitor will help me much there. The critical things…
  • If you find a way to display the poller name on each guage, I'd love to see it. That's the only thing that's lacking on this resource. It will require editing the code though.
  • I have this running on several 2003 SP2 machines... no problems. The TCP port conflict sounds like a viable possiblity. Are these boxes 32-bit or x64?
  • Really, the iFrame is a good temporary solution. It looks no different and would satisfy the audit compliance of any government agency. I've already loaded this up on our server, and works flawlessly. Good luck! Cheers, Grant
  • Right - I was referring to being able to suppress any additional alerts from the same site. I like your idea of using the LastBoot property instead of Node down (I think I just overlooked that in the first post - apologies). I think the only solution might be the horrible one - multiple rules in order to detect additional…
  • It sounds like the custom poller is not configured properly - i.e. the value type may be setup wrong so it won't be detected in the resource. Check the configuration of the custom poller and let us know how you've set it up.
  • When you configure your Orion user accounts, you can set whether or not it will play sounds for that account. As long as you have the "Nodes with Problems" / "Down Applications" modules on your screen, you should be able to work something out. We created a custom view in Orion to display on a 50" plasma tv, setup with a…
  • Good call - I hadn't tried this out yet, but it does sound like it might solve the problem. Here's the link: http://www.solarwinds.com/products/orion/eoc/index.aspx This should work pretty well, considering you basically have two standalone Solarwinds installations in separate sites.
  • Thanks! Actually, that worked great. I was able to add pollers for everything I needed except for the Output Load. I'll keep searching for that one - I didn't even think to use the generic pollers. Definetely something to try if I have trouble in the future.
  • Exactly - for instance, Dell Server information. I can plug the Dell service tag into a specific URL string, and bring up applicable warranty information, original system config, etc. What I can't seem to figure out, and can't seem to locate in the admin docs, is exactly how to pull that specific variable from the node and…
  • Thanks. I've decided it's really not a big deal - the site I was testing this at places and receives very few calls (as you can see in my chart), but my other sites will probably provide a better understanding for me when I get them set up. If you want to use the systemTotalCalls poller you can set it to be a type of…
  • I have! Since I posted this, all my Dell Servers have started to do this. Not as frequently on the Intel NICs, but still does occur. I've updated to the latest firmware and drivers, but nothing helps. I've gone as far as writing a script that will restart the SNMP service on the systems when they go into an unknown state,…
  • I've apparently made the same mistake. I cannot access Orion at all. "APM License Error - A license check failed. Invalid serial number." Any thoughts?

  • I appreciate the links Mark. I recall awhile back when browsing forums that someone had developed or was developing a custom resource for BackupExec (possibly using Custom HTML) that would read the traps and show current stats on the jobs running. Again - I have not looked much into this yet, though I probably should have.…
  • Well, that sucks. Haha, no problem - I've got a digital map already, but I liked the looks of that one, a little more colorful. In any case, I'll take a look for some new one. If anyone has any recommendations of good places to find maps I'm up for it. Thanks!
  • THANK YOU!!! I don't know how I missed it... In case anyone else has this issue, this post is the key: You have to just remove the custom.config file in the Inet\Solarwinds\Orion folder. Theres a very good explanation in the afformentioned post. 8.5 (Post-August releases) appears to handle pages differently as far as IIS…
  • That field is limited to 255 characters. If you have more than a few sentences, I recommend you just put a link to the full text somewhere else. You can use normal html tags (<a href="...">...</a>) in that field. Well, I can understand that standard limitation (I would have done the same thing, maybe) but that still…
  • I've been able to do some BES service monitoring with Solarwinds APM, but aside from that, no luck. Let us know how it comes out, I'd be interested to do the same with my BES. Cheers, Grant
  • Thank you! There are a few errors in that document, however, just so everyone knows. The delete services commands should be as follows: sc delete SolarWindsJobScheduler sc delete SolarWindsJobEngine Needless, I am still stuck. After all that, and running the config wizard, I now get the following error: Orion Website Error…
  • I have the same problem with my firewalls from Secure Computing / CyberGuard. They all are running Linux at a raw level, and recognized as net-snmp. It's unfortunate that I'm so limited as to what I can monitor - these are great firewalls.
  • I was wondering if there is anyway for my Solarwinds server to pull node information from another SolarWinds server I have administrative access to. Is there anyway to do that? What type of information are you trying to pull? Can you be a little more specific?
  • There is no way to exclude specific subnets from from a larger subnet in the Discovery Tool. It would be a nice feature though. Your best bet is to enter the largest subnet (or seed routers) you can and add additional smaller ones to achieve your goal.
  • Haha, I'm with Mark. I had the same problem here, and it took me a long time to rebuild everything. I grabbed a case of Mountain Dew and made an all-nighter of it. Good luck!
  • What kind of node is it? I have a few Linux boxes that like to report their CPU usage in odd increments (like tenths or hundreths of percentages). Sooo this amounts to alot of them saying things like 200% CPU usage when it's really 2%. Unfotrunately in this case there's not much you can do. Now, on custom poller guages,…
