How about number 3? All I can think is "Mommy used to do the bills, didn't she?"

+1 The Thwack Pack (if I can be Sammy Davis Thwacker)

Thwackologists?

Well - you asked how the prize would be spent... First of all, I'd like to extend a huge thankyou to Solarwinds and the Thwack community. Without sounding too much like a reality tv contestant, last year I got married, we bought our first house, and my mum passed away - so Christmas was a little muted and without much…

Racktables is a fairly simple IP address and server rack management software.

$Deity save us from people who hoard information merely to make themselves important..

Oh my goodness - could you drop a little hint on what 14 across might be? I've spent 3 hours now over two days and it's driving me up the wall...!!

I'm so confused - what did I get wrong?

I think the problem we have as busy engineers is finding the time to filter through all the chatter to hear that incoming failure.

Ideally, your guest wifi network is going to go through the same firewall as normal traffic for scrubbing (this kills the p2p), but will then be sent out a different pipe so as not to impact your office LAN.

I do not trust my users because as House said, everybody lies.

*bangs head on desk* *bangs desk on head* Thank you so much!

I'm not sure the recommendation is to disable SMB if your systems are patched. I've seen that more directed at systems that, for whatever reason, have been unable to patch. I get the desire for layered security but it seems overkill if it's impacting production services like that.

Much as in real life, it's a good idea to take all your logs & keep them somewhere secure!

>most companies are not going to foot the bill for a separate internet circuit from the work related one Anything more than a very small shop would be wise to have a separate backup line. Even it's just a DSL line, capacity to vary by business need. When your main office internet link goes dark due to an ISP issue it's…

This subject always makes me think of the Three Mile Island incident: "As coolant flowed from the core through the pressuriser, the instruments available to reactor operators provided confusing information. There was no instrument that showed the level of coolant in the core. Instead, the operators judged the level of…

I've always wanted a network that no-one is allowed to use... A place of calm serenity, far away from disturbing hands of users or devs. The perfect network has no users, and, alas, is therefore not the perfect network.

The language in this survey is quite peculiar. I'm confused, as many options are the same: Document the configuration of the system Documentation in form of internal wiki or other Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes Update systems when new versions of OS and application software are available…

That's a super-handy script, thank you. For those who want to kick it up a notch, take a look at the open source RANCID - Shrubbery Networks, Inc. - RANCID. At it's heart it does a similar job, but also grabs hardware and extra info and keeps it in subversion or CVS. This allows it to email out when a config change is made…

What issues are you having? I ran a couple of pilots for a while, & haven't had any issues hosting on 2008 R2.
-
It's a balancing act - the alternative option might well be to delay the product release for a while until the docs are all complete. I'm happy to get my hands on the latest version!

Hello Is there any more news on 64 bit 2008R2 Server support? The product page for IPmon still says Operating System (32-bit only) Windows Server 2008.
-
Indeed! I think we've all worked with computers long enough to not trust the sneaky little buggers!
-
Yup - I just spent 30 minutes tracking down this exact issue, only to find it had been reported, and replied to in 2008! It seems IP Monitor development and bug fixing is measured in glacial epochs. Chrome currently has around 10% market share (marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-market-share.aspx

I went through a lot of pain in this scenario too. In the end, I found that installing the 32bit version of the mysql driver and configuring the connection through the 32bit version of the ODBC C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe was finally enough to get the connection happy. If that doesn't work, post the mysql errors…
-
Any idea when this will be? I asked a while ago & was told on April 22 that: " The next version of ipMonitor should fully support 2008 RC2."

By high-availability - do you mean clustering, or active-passive?

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say "Italian systems" means systems which are Italian. That is, PCs which are configured to run the Italian version of Windows.
