What I would do is to get a new download of the Java 8u101 and then delete the package in patch manager and re-synchronize and try the package again
-
Hmm, I honestly dont know how it works with downstream servers. Try it and see?
-
Super easy. Go to reporting > Configuration Management Reports > Installed Programs and Features and create a new task. You can just input the names like I have shown and put in whatever you would like
-
I just did a new setup this week and the Orion stuff is still useless and I went ahead and uninstalled it all again. I still hope one day it might be useful
-
im not sure why this got bumped to the top 22 hours ago but after looking at it again i realize i gave slightly bad info. The actual syntax to input is \\PCTEST\root\cimv2 Those two little slashes make a difference, sorry about that. Also make sure you can not just connect but you can get info from a query.

Nope, should be good to go on the API mismatch then.

Ive never used Chef but I thought it was more like SCCM for linux that now has windows support as well. If I recall correctly you have to make all the packages yourself and nothing is automatic or user friendly. I also have no idea if Chef integrates with WSUS but I dont remember hearing that it did.

Realistically Ill use another product. On a non-negative note... Yes that will be the only way to do it and I guess its better than nothing, at least people will know when a new Java update is needed and will have the complicated part already done of making sure the rules are correct in the package. That method is how I…

Thanks for checking on that Chell. Just to clarify, this will apply to all Java moving forward starting with 9, ie. Java 10, 11, etc or is that unknown until we see the EULAs?
-
Yes that sure looks like silent installs are still supported which i wouldnt think they would ever change. Java is too widespread to not allow admins to install it silently and remotely. Well hopefully it was faulty info, but it was from a Solarwinds employee which is why I put some stock into believing it.

I would agree thats what it looks like however I run an inventory daily and a deep inventory on sundays.
-
Its exactly because of the symbols and is not just a problem with server 2016 but also with Win 10 1607. The good news is they have fixed the problem in Win 10 1703 and in the newest version of Server 2016, but sadly that version is core only. Once they actually upgrade server 2016 the symbols will not be a problem anymore…

I can automate the capture fine but I think I have a problem with the target groups. MDT will try 8 times to get updates and keeps restarting and then fails. I guess im lost in the fact that I can add the wsus server to the customsettings.ini and enable the step in the task squence but then no updates ever get installed…

Windows 10 1607 Pro end of life was April 10 2018 so there will be no more updates for it
-
Right but that is for updates not tasks like discovery, inventory, shutdown, detect now, etc. The trick is finding when your detect now finishes and then scheduling the report now after that or whatever you are trying to run sequentially. It would make sense to be able to run them like that but also there are times i want…
-
Those will keep coming back under managed computers if they are in the domain. The other spot that license counts can get messed up on is if you have any scheduled tasks that contain the ones you dont want, i.e. inventory or discovery. See this for more info SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: The Patch Manager console says I'm…

I dont know thats wierd and doesnt happen to me. Id open a support ticket
-
Im talking about in patch manager
-
I get it too but it gives me the option to say "I trust this package" or something similar and continue. Do you not get that prompt?
-
Its a shame we have to do this but thank you for sharing it and the results with the community
-
what is this emailed completion notice you speak of?
-
04/24 still no Java

Kelly, I have a strange thing happening. Since my WSUS02 is downstream it seems to be synchronizing when i publish updates on the WSUS01. Is this going to cause any problems or it should be fine since I just wouldnt approve the updates for WSUS02? New Update Alert The following 5 new updates have been synchronized to…
-
Ok thats what I was afraid of. Thank you for the confirmation
-
Yes you can contact solarwinds support for help with the trial
-
You have a lot of strange errors. Please contact solarwinds support. As for the question is patch manager hard to use? Yes it is. It is not user friendly or intuitive in any way. It took me months to get used to it and years to become very proficient with it and I don't think I've mastered it yet. It is a very good tool…

If servers have AU settings via GPO to install during a maintenance window and you approve updates days earlier, wont they just download them and then when the maintenance window comes up they will all install at the same time with patch manager not having anything to do with it? Basically, wouldnt more automation roles…
-
if you check that 3rd party updates view for mozilla and have it check publication status that may update it? Its just a guess at this point I really dont know for sure
-
can you verify that the (sorry i forgot the exact name) datagridpatch service is actually running on the patch manager server? I believe its called datagridpatch, it could be patchdatagrid or eminentwaredatagrid or something like that. Ive had it not start automatically and do something similar where i didnt have access to…

The problem is that I have the AU settings done via GPO, so I have several target groups in WSUS for like a test group, no java, etc, and then on friday I approve all the updates we have tested to the general population and then the AU settings are at 6pm daily they will install any updates. Servers get updates on Saturday…
