Thanks for the reply. So, does NCM actually use the Config archive for any functions it performs?
-
Thanks for the help folks. So what about NCM? Do I just run the Integration executable on the web server and then point the connection to the IP of the primary server?
-
Thanks jtimes, but that is not what I am after. I want to know what the important logs are by name and what they are used for so I can: 1. Troubleshoot some issues myself, and 2. Learn more about Orion functionality Anyone?
-
Am I also correct in thinking that the easy part is to get the Orion server setup for processing syslog messages? Install the syslog service and configure filters, right? The hard part will be configuring syslog forwarding on each device type and vendor? I would imagine that the process will vary widely. Am I right?

Denny, Is there any way to predict the size of the data influx to the Orion database and the workload on the Orion poller that would result from enabling unfiltered syslog from essentially all of 6000 elements in an Orion monitored network? My guess is that there are just too many variables to be able to even guess at the…

Thanks, Denny for the reply. Just the kind of answers I needed.
-
No, upgraded from 8.5.1.
-
neilmborilla, I take it that you have implemented one or the other of these scenarios on your network. Which approach did you use and how many elements did each poller end up monitoring? Anyone else want to describe their multi-poller environment and the how and why of how you load balanced?
-
Thanks for the replies folks. Let me see if I can piece together what "normal" operation is for this functionality. As I recall, after initial installation, there are a certain number of ports (number?) enabled for monitoring by default. I noticed that if I click on the "Unmonitor All" button, open the ServicePorts table…

Thanks, Denny, that worked. Let me see if I understand why it worked. If I have it right, each EOC user account must be linked to a single Orion NPM account on each Orion NPM servcer that the user need to see on the EOC web site. I had already created the Orion NPM user accounts on each Orion NPM server. What I don't…

Well, this is interesting, because the "upload entire config" option is greyed out for me. Why is that?
-
From the restricted user account.
-
OK, I read the readme file. So, I copy the same MIB file in all three locations?
-
Thats where i was headed alterego, but as I look at the scheduling options for the scheduled task, it does not appear to allow me to schedule the task every 4 hours. AS you can see from the screenshots, I have the option of setting an interval, but there is something called Duration on the Advanced Schedule Options screen…

It happens with either SNMP or WMI. And yes, I supply the proper credentials for WMI, and I get a list of processes running on the target server. But again, when I check a few boxes and click Next, I get an error asking me to do what I already did.

Thanks for the reply. So, do I understand correctly that all Orion add-in modules must be installed on the PRIMARY poller, or could I install NetFlow on the primary and wireless on the secondary as an example?
-
Thanks for the reply Mark. I am at SP1. I do have View byt Device Type selected for the user account and I am using a named view for my virtual servers. I noticed that when I click on a VMWare server on the web, the details view says "host unknown" at the end of the view name. Is this indicative of anything? The various DB…

Well, I must be missing something, because all the tools I try to use still leave the group of nodes all clumped together with the labels all overlapped. In fact, those tools seem to have little effect at all when applied.
-
How does one disable the topology discovery during network discovery?
-
Thanks guys for the clarifications. Let me see if I understand correctly now. A template is only used to assign an application to a node, at which point you have created a unique "application monitor" on that node. Any edits/adds I make to component monitors at the application monitor level effect ONLY that one application…
-
Thanks Yann. I understand the steps you have outlined, but my other poller is a hot standby, not an additional secondary polling engine. Does that matter?

and the last screen shot:

Yes, I was using an older version. Sorry. So, would an Orion Rediscovery be able to update say the serial number for a replaced NIC in a workstation as an example? Is that how rediscovery works?
-
That's what I needed. Thanks all.
-
If one is currently running in the 32 bit mode and therefore limited to using 4 GB of RAM by the OS, are you recommending the 16-32 GB RAM on the application server purely in anticipation of the day when Orion will be a 64 bit app?
-
Well, I have tried it both ways and I still am stuck. Should I open a ticket and call SW? I really need to get this resolved quickly.
-
I think this is of medium interest. But if you consider that a hub-and-spoke arrangement is by definition a "group" realtionship, it would be nice to be able to modify the original topological construct by simply adding another spoke to the wheel. Having said that, I was thinking that actually creating a Group of the SLA…

Thanks David. That's what I was after. A couple more questions if you don't mind. Under Global Settings, raw, uncompressed data is kept for the designated time, then it is compressed and kept for that designated time? Is that right? After that, it becomes "expired flow data"? If not, then what exactly is "expired flow…

As usual byrona, I find your responses short and to the point. Thank you. One additional question though. Why might one use both the first and second timers in the same alert? They seem redundant.
