Another question - this one about creating component monitors. Cana component monitor be assigned directly to a node for monitoring, or must it be assigned to an application monitor (even if it is the only one assigned)? The reason I ask is that I noticed that the Component Monitor Library shows only Application Monitors…

I have been at several training classes offered by Corona Technical Services. The Orion class specifically, was offered at a nice hotel not far from DFW airport in Arlington, TX. I bought the all-inclusive package which included room, meals and training. The food was great and the room was very comfortable - and all for a…

I have to agree with vchato on this. There are some performance advantages to keeping System Manager around. Just something to think about.

Denny?

Also, I noticed that although I get the email. It embeds that Orion login page ion the body of the email rather than actually logging in for me and sending me the component details page. I included the web server login information on the URL tab. Shouldn't that perform the login for me? The email I get does not allow one…

One other thing. I see that syslog daty is getting written to the Orion database, but I looked at the SyslogRules table and under the EngineID field is a value of "0". Shouldn't that be a "1"?
-
Still not with you on this one. I don't see those in my Custom Property Editor. The only thing I can think of is that those are custom properties that someone created. What version of Orion are you using?

Andy, So, I notice that by default, the banner above the Application/Port listing shows that I am monitoring 21046 ports (4588 Single-Port Applications, 16458 Ports in 7 multi-port Applications) Are you saying that if I select Enable All Monitoring, these numbers should change to refect the addition of apps and ports? Will…

Yes, I understand the idea now, but this only matters on interfaces, volumes and applications correct? If the node is what will actually be down, there is no sense in polling it - you will get no data. Correct? If a child element or application is going down, then you can still get data on the node itself. Is that the idea?

OK, I'm starting to get a little dizzy... let me state my original goal. I need to be able to restart a specific SNMP process on a remote server every 4 hours and then verify that the service is running. How, step-by-step would I do this, and what role could APM play in this scenario? Thanks.

The color schemes are cascading style sheet files located in the following location: Inetpub\Solarwinds\Webengine\Resources All you have to do is edit one of the existing style sheets (.css extension) and rename it. Then you can select the new color scheme on the Color Scheme page. As for the logo. Just store the logo…

That doesn't make sense. Why would I only want to test the ability of the Orion server to access a website? I want to know whether any node on my network to which the monitor is assigned can reach that web page. How do I set that up?
-
I understood the Alert Frequency to mean that the advanced alert engine will scan the DB at the set interval looking for ANY elements that are in an alert state. If it finds any, the alert will fire again. Is that the correct understanding, Denny?
-
Thanks for the reply, Mark. Is that the only type of maintenance that the SQL agent controls? Does the agent have anything to do with the nightly data summarization procedures?
-
It did help, but I am still getting no data. i did verify that port 2055 is allowed through the firewall. I ran Perfmon and saw no incrementing of the referenced counters. I then used the NetFlow configurator to make sure that the NetFlow commands were run correctly on the Cisco 2811. Could it be the interface that was…

As it pertains to data retention policies? What do you mean by associated with the main poller?
-
Ok, but you are telling me that SNMP is necessary on the phones right? The MIB Browser tool won't work unless SNMP is enabled first, correct?
-
Thanks, byrona.
-
Thanks, David. If you want to be able to track conversations all the way to internal (i.e. 192.x.x.x) addresses, how should you set up your NetFlow sources so that the endpoints are not always seen as only the external address of the router?
-
Well, I installed Orion 9.5.1 on a VMWare server and all seems to be well so far, but I did notice the following with the Orion Services Manager. Is this a concern or anything that can be repaired?
-
Thanks, Andy. Let me see if I understand now. Are you saying that the roll-up status method you select for a parent group has no effect on how a node down alert will function? Is it just that red shows up better than yellow and will more likely grab your attention?

Knock Knock Penny, knock knock Penny, knock knock Penny!

Mark's reply actually reminds me of a question that I was wanting to ask. Do all Orion modules have to be installed on the primary poller in a multi-poller environment? Or, is it possible to say, install NetFlow on the primary and APM on the secondary?
-
well. Then I must be doing something wrong because when I look in the drop down menu in System Manager, I do not see the interface property that I just configured. What gives?
-
Thanks for the two replies. I have another question. Where (file name and location) does ipMonitor store the statistical data?

Update: I suspect that there is something corrupted in the database, because I temporarily attached to a new NCM database, then added a single node from the Core database and everything worked perfectly. The original NCM database was pre-existing and must have some issues. In any event, starting with a new NCM database and…

Ping sweep, switch port mapper, ip address management would all work, but not until SNMP is enabled I believe.

bump!! Solarwinds please?

Yes, the IP address is in the Node Details resource, but when I click on it it just launches the node details view again. I am using the User Defined Link resource. In the past I have used it to provide a link to DellOpenManage (through the appriprit\ate port) on a server as an example. Clicking on the link from the Node…

I think the scheduling of the unmanage task is the option I will try. In fact, I think I will configure a Yes/No node property that I will set all nodes to Yes for. Then, I will use the property to construct the scheduled unmanage task. I will let you know how this works.
