Cisco Switches and ASAs

wickedoz I concur with smttysmth02gt. If you used a custom property you wouldn't need to use SWQL. You can create a group on that custom property and alert on it pretty easily.

As an addition for anyone else in the future, if the nodes are servers, permit the SolarWinds server IP Address(es) not the DNS name. Just had a problem were GPO was changed to use the DNS name and a couple of nodes that were Up and responding to ICMP showed on the SolarWinds home page as Down.

I'm trying to sort the "Node with Problems" by "% Loss" then by "Node Name". If all the nodes have 100% loss, it would be nice to see them sorted by name. My Nodes with High Response time seemed to be sorting in that manner by "Minimum response time" then by name but I guess that has changed. I've tried using an "order by"…

Download and save the attached file to the \Program Files "(x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM\DeviceTypes" folder and try it. I do not think the "sh run all" command shows pre-shared keys for ASAs with site-2-site VPN tunnels but let me know your results.

Sixmill, It worked! Thanks for your help.
-
Thanks sixmill. That definitely seems like it would work. I will edit and post the results after the next scheduled job runs.

Different network, different requirements for ICMP I guess. They should probably allow ICMP and SNMP traffic from the SolarWinds server to any device you intend to monitor.

Hello fmaalik, I plan on doing something similar in the next couple of weeks. My current installation (Orion Platform 2014.2.1, QoE 1.0, IPAM 4.2, NCM 7.3.2, NPM 11.0.1, NTA 4.0.3, Toolset 11.0.0, IVIM 1.10.0, VNQM 4.0.1) is running on win2K8 server. I just received some new servers and I plan on moving Solarwinds to a…

Hello bshopp, I'm having a similar but opposite problem. I am on NPM 11.0.1 and my "Nodes with Problem sorts by "PERCENT LOSS" but not alphabetically if all noes in the section are at 100% loss. I have tried to use Order By in the "Filter Nodes (SQL) but get "Custom SQL filter is incorrectly formatted.".

I ran windows update earlier today and got the same error message. Another thread suggested I tried everything suggested here with no success. I found a separate thread that alluded to my NTA installation being corrupt and suggested repairing from the Add / Remove programs. Tried that and got the error message on the link…

I have encountered the same issue with dependencies. It doesn't bother me as much but I would like to get it resolved too.
-
cjfranca I couldn't find the log files in my D:\inetpub\logs but I got the issue resolved. I uninstalled all the modules except NPM including the hotfixes. Repaired NPM and reinstalled the other modules and everything installed fine. Not sure what the problem was but it is resolved now.

james00000007 it depends on how big your environment is. When you start getting to a couple hundred / thousand nodes and different type of devices it would probably be easier to query on a customer property versus a part of the name.
-
Bira, Would this also work to update the alerts if the alerts are based on node name?

Hello Michael / Ben / noobes, I ran into the same issue and this is the only way I got by it. I modified this template "Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance-1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.669.ConfigMgmt-Commands" to use "more system:running config". I changed all my ASA nodes from "Auto Determine" to "Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance".…

You will absolutely love NCM. It can be a pain to configure (not the app but making sure you have all the pre-requisites just right on your devices) but it makes me sleep better at night knowing that I have config backups of all my networking devices. The modules I am currently running are listed below if you have any…

Found the information here http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/en/flarehelp/netflow/content/orionnetflowag-movingthentaflowstorage.htm

Hello rrrolfs3598, If you are trying to poll or monitor devices using SNMP, open up UDP ports 161 and 162 (SNMP) to your DMZ Network (or specific devices if you want to be granular) on the firewall and you should be able to poll the devices. If you only need up/down information, permit ICMP.

You guys officially made St. Patty's day a lot funnier.

Hello jodelgado, I had the same problem after upgrading to Orion Platform 2018.4 HF1, IPAM 4.8.1, NCM 7.9, NPM 12.4, NTA 4.5.0, SAM 6.7.1, NetPath 1.1.4. Quick fix is to follow the steps on this link "Ping stops working on the Orion Polling Engine - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support " Steps, stop all services,…

Hello Sef, Thanks for your template. To exit my menu I have to type an 'e' so I edited the template as such. Also the "Auto Detect" kept selecting the wrong template but I manually selected the Cisco OOB template and it worked perfectly. Thanks for your help. Ose

Can you point me to the location of the log file in question. I can't seem to find it.

Hi, I am on NCM 7.1.1 and I noticed the same thing. However, I think if you are looking at the "Config Summary" page and clicking on the "Change Report", the top of the change report should provide the last a time stamp on when last a report was changed and by who. Most times when I see the lines that seem to have changed…

Correction on my part. I'm trying to move the NTA Flow Database to a separate server. My environment has the SQL server running on a separate physical box and NPM instance on a VM. I did not have a separate VM to move the NTA Flow Storage to at the time so it is running on the same box as NPM. That's what I'm trying to…

Thanks for sharing! Beautiful map.

Hello Nhicks, Check the IP Address you are monitoring the nodes on. Login to the SolarWinds server, do an extended ping to each of the nodes. and see if you can reach them from your server. Do a tracert also to see what path it is taking to get to the node IPs.
-
sotherls Can you share the report? I would like to import it.

I've had the same problem and occasionally have the same issue with Cisco WAPs. It normally happens after we lose a site-2-site VPN connection to the remote site. The SolarWinds server is able to ping the WAP but it shows down in NPM till the device is restarted. Restarting has been my fix since its a low priority network…

Thank you LGarvin. I will look into using the Account Limitation feature and hopefully this would satisfy the audit requirements. Extra detail: We have an audit / security requirement to (wall off) access to some nodes that we are going to be monitoring from the general user community. The initial suggestion was to have a…
