  • Hey Foonly, Thanks for the comments. You're right, to avoid the dark influence of Mount Doom, and preclude the kind of resource contentions that you ran into SQL Server instance hopping on the same host, I assume a less complicated case in which migration goes from one SQL server host to another. The instruction regarding…
  • It's important to note that any AES256 shenanigans would have to occur with complicity of NIST. Sent via the Samsung Galaxy S 6, an AT&T 4G LTE smartphone
  • Hi superfly99, I'm very interested in what information you value most on the site. Thanks for the comments. Doug
  • I asked Dev and they found it difficult to trouble-shoot remotely. Some of their comments: Has the customer tried to manually download config from the device used in RTCD tests? Does it work? Is the 1.1.1.1 IP address in the log a real address from which to download a config or has the customer just edited the log to hide…
  • Questionario, If you go to File > Settings > Real-Time Change Detection > Download Options, you should see the type of config that RTCD is monitoring. As the setting indicates, whichever config type NCM is monitoring for syslog/trap data sent from the device, the first step upon receiving such data is to download the…
  • Detailed steps for installing an additional poller or website are in the Orion NCM Administrator Guide in the sections under "Additional Polling Engine and Web Console". Let me know if that information doesn't fully cover your case. Doug
  • Hi Questionario, The document is correct in that the Syslog Service and Trap Service need database read/write access to perform their RTCD work. Regardless of how you setup database account access in the NCM Configuration Wizard, using either Windows or SQL Server account credentials. the specific account must have write…
  • Byrona, This KB article has the links you seek: http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/3358/Installing+or+Upgrading+to+Orion+NCM+version+7.0 Doug
  • Are you using an NCM 6.1 RC? Thanks. Doug
  • rgward, I checked with the developer of UDT. You would need to upgrade NPM 10.1.3 to 10.2 in order to make it compatible with UDT 2.0. The matrix in that KB article will be updated. Do you need other information? Thanks. Doug
  • Hi moyzan, For clarification, are you saying that though a given network device is setup with a specific user name and password, and so doesn't use the $(Global...) macros, NCM is sending the global credentials anyway? Thanks. Doug
  • Hi Questionario, I'm meeting tomorrow morning with relevant dev and QA people; I'll get the best information from them regarding database touches and their requirements during the RTCD workflow. I'll have an answer to your question then. Stay tuned. Thanks. Doug
  • Tim, Dev here thinks that 28 GB memory dedicated to SQL is likely sufficient for your current deployment to include UDT. You should monitor disk queue length to ensure it stays low; an upward trend is typically the first sign of trouble. I'll add information on this topic as I receive it. Doug
  • Orion NCM 6.1 is available in case you haven't downloaded yet. It fixes your issue.
  • Hi Tim, Here is a requirements matrix for SolarWinds products inter-operating with Orion NPM:knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/.../Upgrade paths for SolarWinds Orion product modules and standalone productsSolarWinds UDT, though it does not require Orion NPM, integrates with Orion NPM 10.1 and above. In terms of your…
  • No binary config file support at this time; sorry. Doug I should add that you could upload binary config files with NCM; but you would not be able to download or edit them, and NCM would fail if asked to do diffs and other operations involving binary config files. D
  • Alerts are rule triggered; Remediation will be rule based, as in any piece of config with the offending string(s) gets remediated. Does that answer your question?
  • Triggered alerts show up in the 'All Triggered Alerts' resource. The persistent history of alerts is in the AlertLog table in the database. Since you're having such trouble getting this to work I'd suggest opening a support ticket. D
  • Here is a knowledge base article that may help you. The steps in this KB clean up the server after removal of NTA:http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/2419/Un-installation+Utility+for+Fully+Removing+Orion+NTA Doug
  • This implies that the integration package was not the outdated software blocking the 7.0.2 upgrade. All of the Orion software you list should be cross-compatible. You could try first upgrading to NCM 7.0.1 as a prelimiary to the 7.0.2 upgrade; but that really shouldn't be necessary. Doug
  • Are you asking if NCM supports generating and editing binary config files? Doug
  • I should add that, yes, Execute Command Script hasn't changed for the NCM win32 application; but the functionality is also available in the Device Details page on Web Console. D
  • Christine can answer regarding the product features. I'm not sure I follow, though, in terms of compliance checking for devices that are unreachable via telnet, ssh, etc. I'm probably misunderstanding your use case, but to check compliance NCM has to first download the relevant configs. Would you be running an instance of…
  • If there's no data resulting from the execution of the config script--the script executes and the device issues no message, for example--there wouldn't be anything in notes. If you are just trying to verify that the NCM alert mechanism alerts I would suggest executing a 'show version' command when the Orion Advanced Alert…
  • I'm directing this to the NCM Product Manager. You should hear something soon.
  • Autoremediation scripts are part new functionality in the Policy Reporter; it will be in an upcoming release. Doug
  • Ozzy, Regarding config downloads, NCM accesses devices based on the credentials you setup. It sounds the credentials associated with the NCM account you're using do not have permission to access your managed devices. Try these things: First check your Device Login & User Account Crendentials setting (Settings > NCM…
  • Slight correction, after reviewing the data entities and parameters: In short, to find unused physical interfaces (i.e. ports) on your nodes and turn off those interfaces with a specific status, then you would use the NCM.Interfaces data entity, create a code loop to interate through the list, and make your config action…
  • Jon and John, This KB article may help: http://support.solarwinds.com/kbase/ProblemDetail.cfm?ID=1543 The Find Connected Port for End Host feature in NCM follows the same rules, and has the some limitations, as the ConnectNow feature described in this KB article. Doug
  • Yes, disabling IIS would prevent web console from loading.
