jxchappell Isn't saving money everyones thing? designerfx I am not associating hardware with licensing. Solarwinds is. Let's try it this way. Microsoft charges you per seat, i.e. Exchange mailboxes. They don't put any artificial limits on the number of mailboxes you have on a server. You can put as many mailboxes on the…

I said above that I tended to agree with byrona. I agree with per node licensing. The problem is that Solarwinds limits the pollers on the number of elements. Why? To gouge the customer more if they buy beefy hardware? >>> designerfx said, I find myself very happy with how APE's work and stacking them is incredibly…
-
I tend to agree, but node count is not representative of the load on the poller. Try polling a Nexus 5K with several 1K extenders vs say a remote office switch. Thousands of elements on the 5K.
-
They sell in packages of elements now. SL100, SL250, SL500, SL2000,SLX. Just drop the unlimited.
-
I think the solution would be to not sell "Unlimited" licenses. License for the number of elements you need to poll, and make the APE's free. That's pretty much how everyone else does it.
-
You don't run an installer for the stacked APE, just license manager to activate the the increase. Number 1 is correct. >>> I was corrected below. Didn't remember running the installer.
-
I mean the UI keeps nagging.
-
As we have both said, the polling completion is what really matters, but how do you keep Solarwinds from nagging you to purchase APE's when you really don't need them.
-
Can you tell us if the Stacked APE license actually does anything other than increase the license? The number of elements is really irrelevant. What really matters is the polling completion. Can the poller complete all its polls in the time allocated. It seems as if Solarwinds is putting an artificial limit on the number…

So, it is just a license key?
-
Example: Sw-poller4 is not stacked. Sw-poller6 has a stacked APE. Both pollers have identical hardware. The stacked APE just increases the element count. Complete rip-off.
-
I would like an explanation from SolarWinds as well. The only difference it made for me was to remove the messages about pollers approaching their polling limit. Had no effect on the number of elements I can poll with a single machine. My Pollers are Dell R630's with 16GB of Ram and mirrored SSD's with dual 4 core i7's .…

It is just a license key and nothing more. I have "Installed" 2 stacked APE's and it does nothing but unlock licenses that we already paid for when we purchased "Unlimited"
-
Selling an "Unlimited" license and then charge again for each 12,000 elements is paying double, no matter how you look at it.
-
Not just a bad taste, we are looking at a big expansion. It is looking like we can't afford Solarwinds any more and may have to move to Quest, HP, or CA with is now more affordable than Solarwinds when you scale big.
-
The 12,000 limit is artificial. Only put there to sell a stacked APE. Additionally most every other software vendor doesn't care how many pollers you deploy as long as you bought enough licenses to cover the devices you are polling. Selling an "Unlimited" license and then charge again for each 12,000 elements is paying…

sja wrote: I don't get it... Okay you can push the system to 36000... per server so why not just have 1 APE-SLX-SLX-SLX license ? That will make consumers life easier...not pushing 3 install in the same server. It's not an install. It is just a license. I have 6 APE's and 2 are stacked. Very large boxes with lots of ram…

nickzourdos wrote: I've always found this silly. "Unlimited" licenses just means "as many as the native polling engine can handle, but after that you have to pay more money for more polling engines". And then the polling engines are artificially limited making us not only buy polling engines, but licenses twice. Solarwinds…

>>"Yes 'Stackable Poller' is basically only extending the licensing capability on the Poller you can have multiple Stackable poller on your existing Additional Poller It can be update by Smart Bundler . Unlimited ALX doesn't mean unlimited licenses then? Then we are being ripped off! Then just license X elements per…

Love it! * In addition to adding value to your Network Atlas maps, this is a step towards Automated Dependency Mapping

Never mind. Syntax error.
-
Easy to do if you have your web servers behind an F5.
-
Anyway to get the current date so that the description can contain the date the interface was shutdown?
-
Did not work for me either

After Running config wizard again because of missing NTA resources I am getting timeouts now too. Don't install NPM 11.5 and SAM 6.2 if you want it to work properly. Stick with 11 and 6.1
-
Having the exact same issue here. Have applied the latest hot fixes and run config wizard.
-
Running Orion Platform 2014.2.1, SAM 6.1.1, QoE 1.0, NCM 7.3.2, NPM 11.0.1, NTA 4.1.0, WPM 2.1.0, Toolset 11.0.1, UDT 3.2.0, IVIM 1.10.0 all on 2012 R2 FlowDB and SQL2012 are also on 2012R2

I have 2 additional web servers that are load balanced with an F5, and the main poller is HA.

This was fixed in NPM 12.1 and Platform 2017.1
