Hi yumdarling! Welcome to the best online community ever (IMHO). We look forward to seeing you virtually and participating in the fun and mayhem that is part of thwackdom. Like rschroeder mentioned, you may be bombarded with questions and requests at times, but it's all on good fun, and like Earth in Hitchhiker's Guide,…

Thanks ntimms! Good post. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Back in the day I worked for a large cable network. I was always amazed how much business was driven by the ratings. The amazing thing is there aren't that many Nielsen households.

As always, thanks for the great reading sqlrockstar. Definitely the highlight of my Wednesdays. And a truly impressive Valentines gift indeed. Looks tasty.

I wanted DPA back when it was Confio Ignite but we couldn't afford it. Got it a little over a year ago and it's up all day every day on my desktop. Absolutely love it. Great product.

I think I'd vote on cashless stores by not shopping there. We have a place near us that is exactly the opposite. Cash only. Kind of refreshing, and the prices are great because they don't have all those friction costs that the card merchants hit them up for. They are also so busy there is usually at least a 30 min wait.

Thanks!

GITEX sounds amazing. Years ago I used to work with a Brit that spent his "hols" in Dubai. Said it was an amazing place. Now I know why.

Same for me. I watched the video from well before the hint to well after. The name of the exe is right there on the screen and Leon mentions the executable by name several times, but that's not the correct answer. Red X. Should have taken a screen shot of the question so I could look at it again and compare to see what I…

Interesting post. One of the things I've noticed about federal (particularly military since there are so many in my area) networks is that a lot of the systems are ancient but no suitable replacement has been approved, so they just keep them running. The further that gets kicked down the road the harder it is to leave -…

Excellent post adatole. Thanks for the reminders. Love the quotes.

Thanks for the great links.

Unfortunately Murphy's Law guarantees that it never changes for the better. :<

That's quite a collection, although I know the travel can wear, it's also nice to have an employer engaged (and successful) enough to do those sorts of things. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely true. This can also happen internally depending on how fragemented/adversarial your internal IT is. Everyone is quick to point out it's not the [desktop|patch they just installed|software|web server|database|whatever]. Basically internal finger pointing. Just own it and figure it out and fix it.

Signed up. Looking forward to it.

Thanks. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this. We're starting to see virtualization being replaced by containers/services for a lot of things.

As always, thanks for a bunch of great links. FB and privacy are like east and west - they will never meet.

I'm a huge believer in goals, goal setting, measurement, etc. At the moment I use bits of the S.M.A.R.T. system (which I honestly never really liked) and OKRs (see Google, John Doerr, Intel Andy Grove) with a bit of just my own take on things. To me if you can't demonstrate tangible bottom line value, you're not needed. We…

Thanks for the post. All that sounds great, but fiscal constraints usually throw a wet towel on the acutal implementation. I've worked so many places that had systems that should have sunsetted years ago but weren't for various reasons.

Excellent post. Thanks for sharing. Now I want to go run up Currahee Mountain.

Great post cxi. Really enjoyed this one.

Thanks. Hadn't realized Fed agencies were using IOT that much. Trying to solve anything with legislation alone is pretty much a waste of time.
-
My thoughts exactly sqlrockstar. Not many useful applications out there that *don't* require a database of some sort.

It's my favorite thing! Thanks for the links Suzanne! (great picture by the way). It will take me a while to dig through all of these. Really interesting one on the mosquitoes.

Mine started back in the early 70's when I was attending a school that had a real time computer system (CDC 7000 - called Chronos) shared among a number of state universities (back then most of the access was through a window and everyone used punched cards on IBM 360's). Anyway, I happened to take an engineering methods…

I obviously should have. Live and learn. I know what they'd like to hear, but we are a customer for a ton of products, it's just that this one isn't that great a fit, especially with a tight budget this year.
-
Really looking forward to this. Thanks!

Interesting. I wondered about the security of the information they gather and use. Unfortunately in the last year or so I've been more personally acquainted with the way wireless medical devices are used in a variety of hospitals and clinics and have been concerned about the security since the medical pros seem to treat is…

As always, thanks for a bunch of great links. I had no idea you could look at Google's history on you. Pretty fascinating in the same say a car accident is. The Capitol One breach highlights one of the biggest problems with security and public cloud - it's far too easy to leave holes you have no idea are there and can't…
