I am now facing a situation with a client where this is becoming more prominent, and this can impact a go/no-go on NCM. Would be good to raise visibility.
-
It's both important but also animplied TLC sort of scenario

I believe the Cory Doctorow phrase of ensh**tification is unfortunately what this looks like. So without discussing purely business I'll acknowledge that this is "business has overridden technology use cases". That being said, same as @"[Deleted User]" - I expect Proxmox to be the way to go from here. Nothing about…

You've been crazy busy with this community. I don't know how any of you manage to keep up at a constant running pace, but I wish you well in your future endeavors!
-
Basically - if you're going to run a test environment, run an actual server. Anything less and that's going to not end well. Even us MVP's with the toys we have will still generally deploy to servers at all times

Hello, What do you mean? Solarwinds can push alerts via email, or you can push them via various rest API's to sources like slack or opsgenie or service-now or text to email or a whole smattering of solutions. This is pretty much within basic capability of Solarwinds to do so. What is this "third party software"?

as someone who trades and bots crypto/stocks and all the fun stuff, this is much ado about nothing. literally people are seeking conspiracy. this is up there with every other political hype
-
I agree. There is a feature request for this already -
-
What are the steps of the hotfix if you went from SAM 6.2RC1 -> SAM 6.2 RTM?
-
yeah, we're all watching uniswtc

Do you simply not understand? Click on the graph. that's it. Click on the graph and then tell it how far you want data for. Or click export, and then customize the dataset. It's also set to a default that YOU can modify by going to "edit" for that particular item. Your continual prise of PRTG makes me wonder if you have…

moorecomputing we opened a ticket and the result is we had to remove capacity forecast from every view that it was listed on. I don't know if it was specific to us or not. The rest were a bunch of volumes that had changed and we needed to go in and re-list volumes to find them again/remove the old ones. I'm not calling…
-
That is actually what I had hoped. Perfect then! Thanks, rob.hock!
-
I think that's an accurate summary, maybe uniswtc can correct if that's wrong.
-
Yes - I've already uploaded diagnostics, seeing where we can go from there.
-
Basically, the rest API gets you JSON information. So you really just need to handle the JSON from SN - which is probably the most flexible format this data could be presented in, anyway.
-
Please keep in mind that you can enable a discovery to search an active directory OU if you have a server team. That may be the best way to discover new nodes if you find they have an OU that they put the servers you need to monitor into.
-
NTA today doesn't leverage an agent, future state it may be an option. Meanwhile, WMI is less intrusive than installing software on a server, dependin gon your environment.
-
Nooooo! rob.hock maybe this could be done easily with alert limitation categories? I can't give this to people if every alert we have in our environment would give people a popup , too much noise. Oh well, I created a feature request for that, maybe people will upvote it eventually. https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/5023

wait, what? I thought you had a large environment. From what you now say, I'm not quite sure it's as large as I thought. Monitoring tons of websites with SAM is different than monitoring IIS information. Which one is it? Monitoring websites shouldn't be done through SAM, leveraging appinsight for IIS should. 2000 SQL…

I can vouch for that rschroeder is right on, NCM is a pretty crucial tool for network management if you have routers and switches. How much of it you use is to be determined, but it's very useful.
-
bobmarley is correct, you can define the values in the spreadsheet that includes the nodes's IP addresses and then tell the discovery to import a particular column as a particular field in Orion.
-
I'm not sure if I can call it tracked, yet? I opened a ticket high priority when lfransen first mentioned this and we haven't heard back after 2 days. We ended up removing a ton of volumes and re-listing/rediscovering them because nothing else worked.
-
I'll IM you with what I did to address SN values, they are really really really really painfully easy. Maybe you can show me a sample of what you're using to call SWIS via powershell?
-
It makes sense overall to me to have a separate forum. You have basic users, you have scripting users (such as bluefunelemental, myself) and a separate category for people in significantly large environments. I used to think my 4000+ nodes globally was a large environment but now I see we're simply spread out globally…
-
I had to fiddle a bit between what account the recorder was using and what account the playback was using (check the window service). This is 100% ignoring whatever login you're using within the WPM script.
-
Easiest way to use SWIS is via powershell. Do the items in question not share anything in common? It doesn't have to be an IP. A hostname, or literally any value they share would work. SWIS has it's own forum and tdanner is the solarwinds guru for the API itself. If you know some SQL it's not so bad, you'll need almost…

no bother uniswtc, happy to help where I can! I unfortunately just don't have too much to offer on this one, I dislike the unmanage scheduler thing. That's why I looped in rschroeder and also maybe zackm may have some good ideas who else to loop in to help?
-
Details? I know I'm opening a can of worms here, but still just curious of what you're experiencing.

rob.hock How do we identify *who* is alerted via the desktop notification when an alert triggers? Or will everyone with the desktop notification receive the alert?
