Preach! I'm so tired of that argument. Yes, some security requirements seem crazy outlandish. But if you are keeping your company's data breach from happening, that's a good thing. And even if a breach still happens, in many jurisdictions, following required standards levels is a good legal defense.

No, that it didn't need design. And a lot of management originally when many NoSQL solutions had no DR, no security and no licensing.
-
That was the intent of making it a list. And it's likely I could add 10x more security and privacy items to it. What did I miss?

I agree that we probably need finer slices of timezones. And I think it varies by the type of data, too. If someone where trying to track a trend in unauthorized login attempts, I'm betting they'd want to see years of data, perhaps. If someone wants to know the impact of various hardware configurations, they might only…

Yes, as long as it's from reputable trainers. Pluralsight has some great content, too.

Thanks. I’m looking forward to it as well.

Interesting take on this. Words are important, for certain. But they aren't 100% of the message.

I don't get out of bed for less than $20k per hour.

And perhaps intelligent people can at least fake enough empathy to get along with others the worst combination are team mates and consultants who lack both. They are harmful to others.

I believe youbakso must have told some "no" at least 20 times in one day.

Reminds me of Tim Berners-Lee's first WWW computer at CERN

Oh. You're thinking of adding the text to the diagram. Since a data model > that the diagram of the model, I put the text in the notes, comments, properties, meta data, whatever in the model. Those can be shown on a diagram, or reported upon. And even better, published to a special portal that hosts all the models. So many…

The biggest issue for me is that after market security...isn’t that secure. Or it only protects the data part of the time.
-
It is still in the production pipeline. I'll update this blog series when it is available.

I'm not really following the question. If you mean, someone who forbids access to data to people who need it because they might disclose it, then that would be "too secure". My empathy concept is focused on people who only see 1s and 0s, not data that is owned by people - customers, employees, etc. and the IT pro doesn't…

Yes, the human element is important. Which is why I'm a firm believer in moving as much of the "a computer can do it better" to automation and leaving us with the tasks that can benefit more from human analysis and thoughts.

Great database design starts with great data modeling.
-
Ah foam...do we do that any more?

What do you mean by "mimicking" production?

I have a slightly more adult version of this saying. If we ever get a beer together, we can discuss .

Because they have announced some Canadians have been impacted, there will likely be penalties for them in Canada. No jail, though

Does that mean "too long" ?

This is one of the parts of Agile I love. Standups (when they are kept to the 15 minute time frame) can be great. Online collaboration and status checking for those teams spread across many timezones are great, too. Blocking (Ambler's article on lying about completion of tasks one does not want to do, misleading management…

That's great. How did you get this funded? i know some teams have issues getting even a separate Dev environment.
-
Isn't that true with everything we do? Plan it, design it, build it, test it, test it some more, limit rollout until you are sure it will work before scaling it up. Yeah, I know, sounds process heavy. But I guess it depends on what sort of organization you work for.

Yes, there are. SolarWinds has Database Performance Analyzer. You should download the trial.

I do believe some people have a great knack for troubleshooting. And some are just terrible at it. But I do believe that we can all improve our skills by doing the things I listed above.

"We keep missing our SLAs because we are all triple booked"

Those are fightin' words.

Ah, I'm not familiar with the DPA database design. That's interesting.
