Leandro I couldn't agree with you more and this was the focus to have VMAN run natively in VMAN 8.0 which is just around the corner from going RC. We have openings for assisted upgrades with the help of our engineering and support team for the VMAN 8.0 RC. Go here to sign up VMAN 8.0 RC - Assisted Upgrade Spots Available

Azure support is available in VMAN 8.1 and SAM 6.5 which released on December 4th.

Pratik The answer is a resounding yes, you will get all the information you still get in the appliance when polling VMAN in Orion. When integrating with SRM you will get datastore metrics from VMAN but you will have that datastore automatically linked to SRM information which would be the LUN, Volumen disk info.

SAM is not replacing VMAN. It still has only the same basic virtualization polling with no insight into the hypervisor as before. What the implementor may be getting confused with is that when you upgrade to the most current version of SAM it comes installed with a full version of VMAN so you don't need to install VMAN…

VMAN 7.0 is now Generally Available !!!
-
That is definitely something I do not hear often!!
-
This was achieved on the Orion platform with VMAN integration. Browser localization takes care of these items when VMAN is integrated with Orion. VMAN 6.2 now provides a stand alone Orion module for customers that run VMAN in a stand-alone configuration with no current integration with NPM or SAM.

Byron Which version of the appliance did you deploy? If you are on 7.2 then the appliance upgrade is quite simple and I would suggest at least updating the appliance to VMAN 8.0 to catch some of the fixes we have implemented since then including all security updates. If you are anything prior to 7.2 then yes things get a…

Gildas Thanks for the comment! You can actually do this today when using web based alerting in Orion. Make sure your VMAN is integrated with an existing Orion (SAM/NPM) instance or download the stand alone Orion Module from the customer portal to integrate with VMAN. 1. When you edit the alert in Orion select Trigger…

No, we just basically removed the need to have the appliance installed for customers that were leveraging the Orion functionality more. In fact, we recently updated the underlying OS of the virtual appliance to a supported version of CentOS so that we can continue to provide security updates. We have not been updating the…

Pratik, I just you a couple of questions. Once we troubleshoot this issue I will post an update for everyone.
-
It is not necessary to install an appliance on each vCenter. You can add multiple vCenters to poll to a single VMAN poller. Additionally in VMAN 8.1 deploying an appliance is no longer a requirement for polling VMAN.All polling can occur natively in Orion

Andreas I have this coming out and I will update Thwack with a post detailing what features have been moved over. The primary things that have yet to be moved over but currently in progress are Capacity Planning and chargeback. Look for a beta in the very near future.

He will be missed!!

Tom CPU ready and Co-Stop is still in collected, based on your post it sounds like something happened and you are just getting the basic virtualization polling found in SAM and NPM (aka node polling) and not VMAN. Do you see datastore metrics, Sprawl, and active virtualization alerts, if not then that seems to be the case.

Answers in Line Q: If we wish to switch to VMAN Orion, then we'd have to release the license being used by the VMAN appliance? A: You can continue to have both up and running by having the primary VMAN license applied to Orion and the secondary VMAN license applied to the appliance. When switching polling over you will…

Charles Virtualization Manager is perfect for insight into hypervisor perfromance.
-
I'm glad you are liking the new features. I'll check into that ticket and get back to you soon.
-
Yes you can monitor multiple Hyper V servers from a single Virtualization Manager.
-
Yes, that is correct. VMAN collects all of its data via the vCenter API including guest information and host information. Although you are able to add individual ESX hosts to poll we don't recommend doing that if you have a vCenter in your environment. Polling the vCenter will gather all Host and guest information and…

Scott Let me know if there are any questions that need answering to alleviate the concerns of the VM group. Virtualization Manager uses the vSphere API and WMI for Hyper-V and needs basic read only access for general monitoring. Additonal permissions will be required if executing management actions from Virtualization…

Extended reporting capabilities have been implemented on Orion. With the most recent release moving all Out of the Box reports to web based reporting console in Orion.

Ben If you already have VMAN integrated with Orion the historical data that has synced over since the time of integration will still be available. In the scenario where you may not have ever had VMAN integrated with Orion then the sync wizard will not grab anything prior to the integration date. In that case, you would…

From the Virtualization Manager side not in the immediate future. I do know that Xtreme IO is listed on the What We are Working on page for Storage Manager. Storage Manager - What We Are Working On
-
That is correct, in the current version of Virtualization Manager you do not have the ability to take management actions as described. The idea behind this would be you could delegate this permission and not everyone would have this ability by default.

Hello Here is some info for you, let me know if this helps. Head-to-Head: SolarWinds Virtualization Manager vs. VMware vCenter Operations Manager VM and VMware Compare

Status changed to implemented.

Ryan You will see as Virtualization Manager evolves that we will bring more parity for the features that apply to both VMWare and Hyper-V. Are there any particular Hyper-V abilities that you had in mind ?
-
Byron, I'll reach out to for additional data.
-
Hey Ben We are always looking to expand our feature set and I would be interested in talking to you further about your use cases. Also, have you been to the Virtualization Manager Feature Requests forum, where you can add features for other users to vote on?
