d-moore, I appreciate your frustration, but I think this is simply a misunderstanding about how Cirrus' Config Archive feature works. In your download config job, when you check the "save results to a file" and specify a folder location, the job results will be saved to that folder not the actual configurations. The…

anyway, due to the ways of old, and the historic performance issues with APM, i still use the "application in unknown" status on the main APM page as an indicator as to how APM is running. However, I don’t like the fact that applications are marked as "unknown" when NPM knows fine rightly that the node is marked as DOWN.…

You have to have at least one Administrator in your organization. So, you could give everyone an NCM login account with Engineers role and only use the Administrator account when you need to make settings changes.

Just some background info: Cirrus device support is based of command templates stored in <install dir>\SolarWinds\Configuration Management\DeviceTypes. We work for over 15 different vendors and hundreds of specific models. Some devices have introduced menu-driven interface and do not use standard IOS commands (e.g. Cisco…

That's a great idea. We'll reach out to our Cisco contacts to determine if this API is public for 3rd party integration. If there are others interested in this feature, please chime in to help us prioritize! Thanks,

Try: ^<--- More ---> Or: ^<--- There are examples of simple line matching in Comparison Criteria that should give you the guidance you need.

In Admin > NCM settings > Connection Information, can you confirm you entered the IP address of your NCM Server? If you installed the NCM Server on a different machine, you'll need to enter that IP address. If that isn't the problem we can investigate further.

I'm not very familiar with the Cisco WLC's confg interface. I know it supports telnet for configuration. Can someone post the steps on the CLI that you would navigate through to get to the equivalent of the "show running" or "show startup" command on this device?

Based on our internal performance testing, Orion NPM's built-in Syslog log server can handle more messages per second than Kiwi Syslog Server. However, this is under ideal conditions and does not take into account the load already being placed on SQL server by other Orion polling and data collection operations. So, the key…

I'd recommend contacting support on this one and they can walk you through the process.

1) Share the users from NPM to NCM, allow us to set limitations based on both, and for NCM-specific resources. If you use the NCM 5.5 integration module, all the NCM resources available in the standalone console are now available in NPM. This includes the home, config management, inventory, and compliance tabs. This mean…

i just upgraded to NCM 5.0 and it went smooth Excellent! Thanks for letting us know. from my orion home page i can go to the NCM page...i have to log into it every time i go there...is there i way to set this up so it uses my orion login? If pass-through is what you're after, you'll need to have both Orion NPM and NCM…

This service serves NCM information to both the integration module within NPM and the NCM standalone website. I agree that does seem high. How many people do you have working with NPM and NCM?

We've worked with customers in the past who had RSA SecurID deployed for authentication. To make this work in the current version, you would need to setup a static login/pwd in RSA SecurID for NCM to use for authenticating. We're tracking an enhancement request for more integrated support of RSA SecurID. For internal…

We're looking at ways of mapping EoS and EoL data from Cisco to NCM inventory data, but you're correct, that's not currently available in the product today. If you open the inventory report in the NCM win32 client application, there are options to export to a variety of different formats, including CSV.

Thanks for the feedback. Just to make sure I understand this, you'd like for an additional right to be added to the Access Map for allowing users with "read" access to also be granted "suspend" access?
-
Currently, no but I'll add this as a feature request. For internal folks, this is being tracked as #2815.
-
Yes, this service is used for initial node discovery and scans the network using a combination ICMP and SNMP.
-
I would suggest submitting a support ticket with these details on your install to help with troubleshooting. I expect they'll want to get logs as well: * What version of Cirrus are you running? How many nodes? * Is node monitoring enabled? If so, does disabliing reduce memory used? * Did this problem recently occur? If so,…

Thanks for the post. NCM is really a network config management product (versus server config management), so we intentionally left off Windows servers so as to avoid any confusion. That said, it does provide some basic inventory capabilities for Windows servers as you noted and some customers are using it for this purpose…

I hear you. As much as it pained me, we didn't replace it in 5.0 due to the number of big moving parts already in that release and the risk of breaking any NCM-specific integration. Our plan is to upgrade the TFTP server in the next major release of NCM. In the meantime, the workaround is as you described. Download the…

Jessica, try executing this script on IOS: ${EnterConfigMode} enable secret <new password> exit write memory AND this script on CatOS: ${EnterConfigMode} set enablepass ${EnablePassword} <new password> <new password> exit write memory

As you probably know, you could create an alert on the links exceeding a particular rate/% utilization in NPM Advanced Alert Manager. However, you can't yet alert on NTA data specifically. This is something we're looking at longer-term. Do you have other use-cases for alerts?
-
There's not any easy way to do this currently, but we will evaluate this for a future release. For internal folks, this is being tracked as #642.
-
We license NTA to fit your network. The best approximation we have of your network size is the size of your Orion NPM license. A very large network can have all its data flowing through a few large interfaces, as could a very small network. So all interfaces are not equal for NTA as a technology.

I think what you are looking for is scheduled maintenance. You can use scheduled maintenance to suspend monitoring on specific monitors. See Configuration tab > Scheduled Maintenance Tasks.
-
There is some inaccuracy in the release notes documentation concerning this functionality. You'll need to specify the following: ConfigAutoDownload.exe ${IP}, ${Message}, ${DateTime} Let me know how this works. Thanks, -Chris

You should be able to tell if a server has been rebooted using the Windows Event Log Monitor, but I'm not sure if there's an event in there before the reboot that we could use.
-
Couple of things to check: 1. In the Orion Admin area, under NCM settings, what did you specify for the Orion NCM location? 2. Can you verify that the Solarwinds Orion NCM Information Service is running on your NCM server?
