  • Ok. Whats happening with EOC. Customers are abandoning it left and right and there has been no movement on upgrades. Why not phase it out and concentrate on using additional pollers for roll-up enterprise views?
  • Also, you need to evalute your network from two points of view. Physical devices and Application services. If you have a number of important physical devices connected to a single point of failure you would benifit from creating a group for these devices and make them dependent on the single point of failure. From and…
  • I hope you are not going to set a Read/Write community string without using SNMP v3 (encryption and authentication capable). Windows systems are not capable of SNMP v3. Most network devices and unix systems can use v3. SNMP v1 and v2 are not encrypted. You would be sending a "String" (password) across the network in plain…
  • Experiment with the sample interval and time periods of the graph charts. Data is aggregated over time. Try a higher sample interval.
  • This sounds like LEM had an issue connecting and authenticating with AD at the time you and logged in and LEM presented you in with a new profile. The oddity is that all of your custom filters were still there. If this issue was limited to your account, I would say it was a temporary communications issue with AD when you…
  • You will need to configure your routers to support IPSLA. Jitter is measured at the router not the Callmanagers. Whip out the IPSLA Admin guide. It will explain how to configure. http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/IPSLA/docs/IPSLAManagerAdministratorGuide.pdf
  • Atlantic Digital Inc http://www.adiit.com provides onsite/remote training and custom configuration for all SolarWinds products.
  • Have you deleted the scheduled report and recreated? Don't delete the report.
  • Afraid not. You will need the Server and Application Manager software (SAM).
  • Be carefull using these rules. They are good starting points. They will need to be updated and configured for your network.
  • Run the config wizard with just the web box checked. Fixed my problem.
  • The clue is in the error message. There is no data in the database to display for the time period you selected. Let Solarwinds gather data on the interface then set the time period smaller than the time frame of the gathered data.
  • Hi Tim I've never seen that happen. Was this the first time you logged in after creating the custom widgets? Chet
  • Sorry. NPM only creates internal user accounts. Internal groups cannot be created. You must use Active Directory Groups.
  • We have installed and configured LEM for civilian, DOE and DOD agencies. I have a current project underway configuring LEM to inspect devices for DISA STIG settings. LEM is a somewhat complicated product. It is so configurable that there is no definitive source of "How To" guidance to follow after you get it installed and…
  • More than likely you are filling out a web page in the recording that warns you not to leave until it is submitted. Start with a single step and go from there.
  • It would really help the NPM users in the Federal sector if you would move the map generation location from “C:\windows\temp” to the main Solarwinds directory. It’s a little difficult getting the government Information Assurance personnel to allow this directory to be exempted from real-time antivirus scanning.
  • Atlantic Digital Inc also provides training on all Solarwinds products. Chet
  • Do not try to modify the Database directly. Use the Orion SDK. Go here for more information http://thwack.solarwinds.com/community/labs_tht/orion-sdk
  • You may be over-engineering the solution. You should strive to keep your NMS system as simple as possible. Just because you can create multiple groups with multiple subgroups does not mean you should. I assume the NPM server is back at corporate. I’d determine what network resources are the most important in site A. Create…

  • I was able to get around this error by using a local account on the Windows server where the share is located. When LEM asks for Domain\username, provide the machine name (\\machinename\username). Of course make sure the account has the correct NTFS and Share permissions.
  • Sounds like you want to pull information from the Solarwinds applications to support your CMDB. I would head over to the Section of Thwack. You will need to use SWIS (Solarwinds Information Service) to talk to the Solarwinds Database. Solarwinds does not support reading or writing directly to the database. Using the SWIS…
  • Yes. Solarwinds sells what is called a "Fail Over Engine" (FoE). This application configures a second physical or virtual server as an exact copy of the NPM server. If the NPM server fails the hot standby comes online. http://www.solarwinds.com/products/orion/scalability/failover.aspx
  • You can't use TOD sets yet. What you can do is use a custom time frame instead. Not quite as easy as drag and drop but it works. Make sure nDepth it has enough data in the time set.
  • You need the IPSLA NPM module. Free IP SLA Monitor | SolarWinds
  • This is the location of the EXE. "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\StopNetPerfMon.exe". There is also a config file for this program. "C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\StopNetPerfMon.exe.config". There does not seem to be command line switches for this program. I tried the obvious /? -? -h -H. It's seems to…

  • A way around this problem: Create a custom web based report containing the TCP waterfall charts. Include one for each step in the transaction. Schedule a report every day (or as often as you like ) to save the report in PDF, CSV or XLS. You can also send to a mailbox. 1. Add your charts. 2. Preview 3. Configure an action…
