Very nice pointers, I will be starting to bring in more servers to monitor their health and status and some app's and services. These considerations will be strong on my mind!

To me the No BS means you cut out the Lies, Misdirections, Smoke and Mirrors, the Blame Game, Telephone, Truth or Dare or any Silly Juvenile game that gets brought up at the Round Table. Then the other two that follow help you stay on task, and to build trust in you, your work and/or team. christopher.t.jones123 -…

The moon is too hard to emulate with small studio - and no rooms on the moon mean a lot of work. Curious if ESA Space Walkers have the anomalous bubbles in space as well?

Things are presented in a simple, easy to read, even easier to translate and understand as a layman; type graph of Provided Services. 7 Data(Network), and 7 Voice Type Structured Services, for a full range of what could go wrong. Outages and Degraded Service are what we report mainly on, and I can even adjust to show…

Just in general - Out of Band Support built into SW. Give an extra check box/option to select and then you can input the OOB IP Address. Heck +1 to ping the OOB IP when the Node goes down to add a line to the alert informing of OOB status.

Great Stuff! Who knew the remaining fog this week was remanence from Cisco's Cloud

And encouraged to use my own money to do so ... either way it was better than that surplus machine the old man brought home from the Company Auction.

Documentation is the key - either manage all in one ticket - and that is the crux of your one ticket per case... but what is a case. One per call or email/ticket opened. One per Node. TAC case is going to be different from a case or ticket created from a service desk call. The different scenario may dictate the…

And the sole reason I kept that comment on this thread as light and tight as I could. Yes, it was on the back of my mind and the tip of my tongue as I typed it out. But let's face it, these days anything can be made into a Tirade. I'll save it for when they are at my front door, at least for now.

So everyone gets the error and everyone's responses are saved?

Welcome, but on a serious note; nothing gives proper feedback about the 'experience' better than the actual user* *No matter what tool you use, the varying degree of different people's knowledge paired-with / vs. their different tech setups (speeds and bottlenecks) creates the possibility of near endless experiences. The…

Mom was my first support client, patience & understanding we're a requirement to assist - after all how can I get mad at Mom.

I had to watch this, and am hooked after the first episode!

We are big to begin with, but it spans across Engineering, Operations and Info-Sec for BYOD. You could include Project Management and a slew of contractors to help install and cable. We partnered with a big provider to get another internal DAS. The DAS helps with the load on the guest network to provide good throughput…

Same reason MS has Office 365 now, and for a while with newer versions of Office you could only go back to files that were 97-2003 compatible. More money is needed. Moving things to the IoT makes it easier to brick a device, or offer additional's. Games these days even have a cheesy story and push the on-line play and DLC.…

Well tickle my ports active! I'll pack SPM (Switch Port Mapper) in the bag from now on!

Excellent write up! Separation of your your layers, WAN, LAN, etc. will only make it easier to find what you do need when that push comes to shoving back at you!

I use it, it is good; and want more points. It often helps answer the questions randomly thrown out by the suits. Tell me what you need.

Indeed - I also prefer the automation that the nms brings to the table.. we all eventually got tired of Jeff watching the screen and just yelling at the top of his lungs when something went red. I'll never look at going back to that archaic way of alerting, it became a problem when everyone started wearing ear plugs and…

Just me, but didn't years past focus on the Up Votes ? For this and the IT Pro Day.... Maybe it's just me.

I'm surprised this has not gotten more votes for the time frame that this post has been active.

I can monitor something I do not control, but I can not trust something that I can not monitor. SLA/SLD's very critical in this new world of managed or 'out of house' solutions
