This was a stark reminder to reach out to our DB Admin and get some of this figured out 1. MS SQL, Oracle in some places... being big brings a lot to the sandbox. 2. DB Admin, on the DB Team tied to another department; in the end under the CIO all the same. 3. Trying to find that out right now, probably another application…

Webex if we dont have a Site to Site built out for them. It's sufficient, but I do like Lync better than that. Anything where I can see what they are doing. Our newer vendor VPN solution logs each keystroke and mouse click; this system of course they just log in and go... not much more than phone interaction, or lync if…

I did NOT, but found it interesting to get a 2nd hoodie in the mail... i think i was waiting on a T-Shirt... in the end it gets gold in the basement and having a stay at work long sleeve is always beneficial!

Never if you ask me, but I don't write the checks. Best that this would be a continued effort - maybe given some time daily/weekly depending on the availability of your drones. Of course that news worthy event will always make these efforts ramp up.

If you pretend like your using a ZIP Drive to work off of, you will end up saving twice as often.. print this out and tape it up

Chassis swap's using the same IP, I would rediscover then select the new interfaces. The rediscover updates the serial # in NPM, NCM Job that night updated the inventory report. I would keep the old interfaces there for a few days at least to showcase the improved performance and benefit of the refresh and all those bucks…

We are looking for better ways to manage user account abilities and also the tracking of the changes they make. Currently if you add a username to a report you get 'Solarwinds' I would like to see the actual username of the user logged and making the change here (10.5 has this in the events somewhat on a node details page,…

I gotcha. We would just sub net that special need - that way anything on that VLAN is covered - if there is a problem it's normally routing or a FW at that point, which also means there was a change made.

I once spilled soda on a keyboard.. old DIN of a thing that came off an old compaq - the best feature the build in speaker with volume control so you can adjust your keyboard key click volume! It was RAD! For some reason that sucker had the build of a tank, and super quick keystroke response that made me the Doom Champion…

This is especially needed in the server monitoring area.... 4 cores at 20% = 80% for some reason, because the application is not accounting for a total of 400% CPU Utilization...

We can do IT remotely, plain and simple with the tools available - having this option from a business political standpoint can not only add to the availability of your staff but also allow for faster resolution and better innovation in some cases. The across the board approach of some business today gets in the way of…

You can define a trigger threshold.. so X # of Traps before the Email/Alert is sent, and then you can further suspend the Alert Actions for X Hours, Minutes or Seconds. This is done in your trap viewer, on your main engine.

I have had my suspicions since seeing his post, and then the winning post. That skate video looked like it could have been an Austin skate park....Who do we have to impress to get on the Premiere list of Thwackers

Last time I had SANs around the Storage team, 'Had their own monitoring tool' for storage. Go figure we had sluggish file transfer for a couple of years before they actually began to think about a proper fix for it. If Solarwinds was only in place to help, not replace but simply guide them to the issues.

Low hanging fruit always gets picked first.

Just what you check, it shouldn't change the way you think. With automation there is also more of a need for programming knowledge, the ability to script and decrypt someone's bad script will be needed. That along with the basic knowledge of whatever you are scripting for just paves the way to the IT Pro.

Voted up, but I would say your best bet for this 'filter' would be a report. * I may be a bit of a report hog, but sorted correctly and adjusted duplications of your reports will allow you to get the conditions you need for every area

DR Site is a must for us, along with the out of band setup for the remote access in a pinch or late night. Our facilities teams cover the generator and power fail over testing for us on a scheduled basis. Ensuring that even in the worst of times, or when someone is in the middle of treatment that they will have power to Fn.
