I like what you have done here.

Those guys are great, not sure if we even know who is puts them all together - I do know it wasn't initially released.

Requirements are essential... setting a standard, implementing a process to achieve said standard and creating an inspection/review process to ensure that all deliverable's are met. Nice Read !

I saw a sign that said, 'Take a Selfie with our Server!' (not plural)

Hi tinmann0715, My name is Charles and specifically I'm a syslog alert junkie.

This is true - NCM has saved my bacon at times..

Here's to degree's in things other than IT! Very Nice!

I have seen a couple of sides; As in the past, the old Ring the phone or email was the way to go. Shops small enough for this will keep folks coming by your office or peeking in your door with phrases like, 'You busy?' and 'Is there something going on?' Places large enough for a Service Desk solution (note the ITIL jargon)…

Knowing your phone is KEY as well, especially if you are looping the Network connection for your workstation through the phone. - last thing you want to do is have everyone on Gig ports then change their phones to a device that only has 100mbps throughput.

I have to log my server, bring up the Orion UnDP. Choose the poller, (right click) edit - then YES for Keep Historical Data
-
I say we take this as far as the budget will allow. And how do you know that you all of a sudden are not getting a portion of your logs, or what you are getting is a parsed log; not raw. Very interesting point of view to take here, and very critical. Anyone wearing a black hat is going to have this broken down before they…

that may be tricky, but I'm voting for it. I have not tried it lately, but it used to confuse older versions if you tried to list resources on more than 1 node at time.
-
That creates an issue for us, because there must be a physical connection and our compliance see's the connection, as being 'On' the network... or at least accessible from the main production network.
-
awesome tactics. Yeah the comments about where the answers are = BOGUS The comments about how hard a day = HILARIOUS... and also reassuring when I also have an issue finding the answer. Correctly guessing the answer on the first try without looking at the hint, especially for days that give others such issue = Priceless…

IT's like being on summer vacation for the rest of my/your life!

consolidation and modernization efforts increase security challenges due to incomplete transitions (48 percent).... somehow I think this measurement could be avoided with a little more planning and understanding of the technology; or by never leaving the job half done.

A Good post is one that can stand the test of time, and landing in by bookmarks it certainly does that. Often my bookmarks get filled with pages chocked full of tips, tools and a certain type of insight or outlooks that networks seem to require. This will be one of those sites.

Using the Universal Device Poller - open your poller to edit, then click the plus to show advanced options. SNMP Get Type - GET TABLE - when setting up your pollers if you use a base OID it will bring up the different tables you can poll. If you need a base setup check out : Nexus Device Tables . UnDP Once your pollers are…

mfregeau hit it! No, as some devices we don't allow full access over wireless, or BYOD. On the other end of that we should be getting some 'approved' wireless type tablet devices so there is a big interest in this.

Very Nice!

Just edit the view and remove the resource momentarily until the issue is fixed. The page refreshes, they may not notice..especially if they stepped away. But hey, I am all for more control and the ability to play Basterd Operator From He11 (BOFH, if it edit's that)

Data priority and archiving processes should be considered with the customers expectations data retention and retrieval process in mind.

Bump IT!
-
So when you see me on stage, cheer at least a little.

Yes I am curious.... as I answered some Q's and i think i clicked on at least 1 again today which i was able to answer again... I had my answer choices, but am seeing the opposite where i did them, but when i go back there is no 'You have already answered this' type message. Please let me know where I am at with the…

Most of what I see is Auto. We have some queuing built in, but while I have never deployed QoS I would know not where to start with the priorities.
-
Like my salary for one. It's all there.
-
I came back to check if this was implemented.... why not?
-
If your talks regarding monitoring do not start with 'What do we want to monitor, and WHY?' I think it may be time to take it back to the drawing board. Monitoring is a fine art indeed with fine tuning needed even after implementation.

That makes me think of the late 90's when each minute counted and paid for...cell and LD.
