  • Somebody.... anybody?
  • When viewing the last 25 application events under the APM tab - Critical events are pink; Warning events are yellow and Up events are green. When viewing the last 25 events from the NPM Summary tab - Critical events are pink, Warning events are yellow, BUT Up events are green or BLUE? I agree, a more consistent color…
  • Orion has a single MIB database file that is maintained by SolarWinds. If you have MIB's that are not already included you need to send it to SolarWinds and they will add it to the file and publish an updated version.
  • Any other thoughts on this?
  • If you haven't already, I would open a support ticket on this right away so that SolarWinds can help you out and determine if this is a bug.
  • Firstly, I am assuming that you are using Advanced Alerts in Orion? Assuming you are using Advanced Alerts it's really a matter of tuning how often the alerts are checked, how long the condition has to exist before the Trigger Action occurs and doing so while keeping your polling intervals in mind so you aren't having the…
  • I'm just curious if the Solarwinds NPM/APM/etc products can use Oracle as a datastore instead of MS SQL Server? No, currently Oracle is not a supported database for Orion. MS SQL Server is the only supported database at this time.
  • Well, I have solved #1 as well. It would seem that at times my system is loosing connection to it's database. When this happens active alerts stop working correctly and require the Alerting Engine to be restarted in order to resume normal function.
  • Ok, I answered #2 for myself, one was for the component and one was for the applicaiton. That still leaves me wondering about #1.
  • I confirmed with support that this is not currently possible. There is a feature request for this HERE that I voted for.
  • Hello Is there a way to allow a pop-up showing the precise time when you hover over a particular point on a utilization chart? The time axis across the bottom is not granular enough, for example if I'm looking at utilization for 'today' the timestamps are 3 hours apart. Thanks Amy The ability to hover over the graph to get…

  • I think it's looking at the Keepalive column in the Engines table in the database.
  • My understanding with recent liscensing changs is that all you should need is an SLX Additional Polling Engine. However, I would verify the accuracy of this with SolarWinds. As far as NCM is concerned, it does it's own thing and doesn't have any relationship to an additional poller as far as I am aware.
  • I would assume that there is a considerable increase in storage usage as this data is stored separately in addition to the normalized data? Any other implications?
  • If all of the same traffic that flows through your switches also flows through your Fortigates then you should be good. The catch is finding the least number of places in your network to capture all of the traffic. One thing I might warn though is having the Fortigates do too much, I don't know which specific models you…
  • The optimal configuration is to have SQL Server on it's own system using a RAID 10 array and as much memory as you can give it (ours has 32Gb of memory).
  • Well you probably need to start by having a down alert specifically for the DMVPN's and the sites. You can do this by using a custom property field and noting something specific to them. I have seen several cases where folks use a custom property field to note the Network Layer or something like that. Once you have that…
  • I also think this would be a great feature. In addition, is there a way to view which nodes are scheduled to be unmanaged at a particular time? If not this component would go well with the scheduled maintenance feature.
  • There are potentially two ways to do this: If the Unix systems have an snmp agent that reports this information you can collect, sore and report on it using the Universal Device Poller. Your other option would be to use the Orion APM and run a script against the system that collects that information as a statistic for you.
  • Has anybody else experienced this?
  • We could absolutely use this capability. I took the survey and provided as much feedback as possible. For this to work for us we would need it to support both NPM and SAM. Also I would like to see a limited number of ports needed to communicate back to the master. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in…
  • BIG DATA is one of those buzz terms that I find frustrating because without context it doesn't have a lot of meaning yet you see it getting used constantly in the industry. While the term certainly seems to have gained traction in getting a definition it still doesn't have much meaning without context. In many of the…
  • The new NPM 10 SP 2 it hard to renme NODE since when need to rename must used web based node management unlike NPM 10 SP1 that we can rename node via System manager gui. Hope solarwind team can bring up again the old system manager feature for easy node management The plans going forward for SolarWinds are to move away…
  • NTA is for Netflow which is very useful but I don't think its what you are looking for. Orion NPM is the tool that we use to monitor our bandwidth capacity. For each of your sites you should know what their approximate capacity is, then all you need to do is monitor them with NPM to see how much bandwidth is being used.…
  • Going to have to agree with Don on this one. I have posted this problem here as well and would love to see a solution. I am not sure if and how other NMS systems handle this, what I do know is that the last NMS we were using also had this problem.
  • In my experience this volume of logs will likely cause problems for your Orion system. It has less to do with your pollers and more to do with your database, it basically overwhelms the database. This is especially the case if you have NTA in addition to NPM and APM as all of those put a good load on the DB. This is based…
  • Kellie Mecham does this include storage capacity management? If so I am definitely up for a discussion as this has been something we have struggled with are are currently looking for a good solution to.
  • Also, if you would like PM me I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our experience with APM outside of Thwack.
  • I went through the exact same type of evaluation process for an NMS which included the Application Monitoring piece. I am familiar with the problem of having to contact the vendors to get any useful information at all about the product so I completely understand your pain. After our evaluation we choose SolarWinds NPM and…
