  • This question gets asked a lot and the answer is no. SolarWinds is aware of this missing functionality and said that it's on their roadmap as a feature request. See the following post (there are others as well)...
  • You should be able to see the average represented as a blue line in the APM graphs.
  • It looks like the best way to do this is let Techs link their own accounts. The default accounts allow them to link their account to a client account.
  • NPM and NTA are server applications designed to be setup in a single environment and ran continuously for years. If you are looking for a laptop application(s) for going from one site to another diagnosing problems I would recommend you take a look at the SolarWinds Engineers Toolset. It has a lot of the functionality you…
  • I am curious, aren't those passwords stored in the database and therefore should remain untouched? FWIW: I had a pretty awful experience with an uninstall/reinstall process that completely destroyed my views. After working with SolarWinds for about a day we finally had to restore to a backup of the database.
  • I don't think there is anything wrong, I have seen the same thing.
  • This is absolutely possible. You need to go to the admin section of the WebUI in Orion, to go Manage Views and create a new Summary View. Then you can add a resources to the page. The specific resource you will likely want is located under Miscellaneous and is called Custom Object Resource. Hope this helps!
  • You could monitor the endpoint devices on either side of the link and specifically the interfaces on either side.
  • As usual, I totally agree with Donald on this. In addition to great maps, having a much better image library would also be a huge plus. I know that there have been improvements on the image library but I still think it needs some love.
  • It seems that this is now working properly now that I am using the new Alerting engine.
  • Ok, I will take a stab at this one... I'd also like to customize the period in which these templates are monitoring the servers since we do a reboot every night, and I don't want alerts to kick out. For this instead of making the monitoring stop during specific times, you would handle this in the alert. When you setup an…
  • I have several systems in Azure now that I am using the agent to monitor. I have the agent configured in "active agent" mode and just sends data back to the Orion server and it works great.
  • Orion NPM does support net-SNMP thought I will warn you net-SNMP has not been well maintained and has some long standing problems that have not been addressed. Orion should see the volumes on an Ubuntu system automatically if net-SNMP is setup correctly and you provide Orion the proper SNMP community. Are you able to…
  • I am guessing this is a result of these being ESX hosts with CPU being polled through the API versus via SNMP, can somebody please confirm?
  • After talking to support at SolarWinds I have identified my problem. I am using the NCM inegration module as well as additional web servers. My database server is also on a different system. This causes a lot of hops for the data. My current data flow looks like the following... Additional Web Server --> NPM --> NCM -->…
  • You can configure alerts for CPU utilization in the Advanced Alert Manager which is a console tool. If you haven't used it before I would recommend taking a look at some of the alerts that are already in there as well as reviewing the section of the Administrators Guide for Advanced Alerts as well as the White Paper on…
  • We currently have two NPM pollers and a HSE. It appears that the syslog server and trap recievers are 'live' on both of the main servers. Is it possible to also use the syslog server and trap reciever on the HSE. I guess the real question is, does the HSE stop and start those servers when it goes 'live' and when it goes…
  • While I am not sure about the HSE, it has been suggested that load balancing will work with the two polling engines. I had asked about this in a previous post...
  • The only thing you need off the server that isn't in the database are your Reports. If you do file level backups of the server you should be able to restore those from a backup.
  • By setting the frequency to 1 minute you will not be sent a message every one minute while the device is down. The alert evaluation frequency is how often the alert criteria is checked against all of the systems in your database. The thing to understand is that the alert engine is completely independent of the polling…
  • To restrict what nodes are in a specific view the View Limitation is the correct way to go. What specifically are you configuring as the Limitation for the view that is causing the error?
  • We provide similiar services and I as well would like to accomplish this. Here are a few ideas I had on this... You can use the Orion APM to monitor services and Orion NPM to monitor nodes. You can then use the map, at the top level use an icon to represent each of your services. Under those icons you will have all of your…
  • I guess my question is what problem are you ultimately trying to solve with the "two level alarm system"? As best I can tell by your explanation you just want to make sure that alarms get to the proper person that is responsible for the device, is that correct? If that is correct then all you need to do is create a custom…
  • While I agree that it would be nice for individual users to be able to modify their view provided the proper permissions, I don't find it to be necessary functionality. With Orion you can create a different view or dashboard for each team and assign all of the people from that team to it. You could also create different…
  • Sweet, thanks aLTeReGo! Much easier than I had expected, I was looking at the DB but had overlooked that specific table.
  • Orion NPM will do this out of the box utilizing SNMP. APM can get that same data as well as much more grainular performance data utilizing WMI and Performance Counters. I would say start with NPM and see if that gets you what you want first. You can download it and run it for free for 30 days to see if it's what you are…
  • In our company its the Operations team that is responsible for patching. As we are quickly growing and looking to develop a security team there have been talks about moving the responsibility of patching to them. I am in the process of implementing a new patch management system for our Windows systems so we are also in the…
  • Is there a way to only present the authentication failures to the webconsole and just have the authentication successes logged in the database? The Authentication success are clogging up some of the views in the webconsole. Yes, when you configure your syslog alert rules in the syslog console tool one of the actions you…
  • Unfortunately there isn't going to be any easy way to do this. The best possibility would be to do a report using a custom SQL query. That query would need to capture the device availability and then look at all of your UPS devices, when they failed, tally that time and apply it to your device availability to get a real…
  • I was planning on upgrading to 11.5.1 tomorrow but I now see that 11.5.2 is in RC. Should I hold off and wait for 11.5.2 to go GA?
