rob.hock have you had a chance to look at my case? I can't believe I have been having this problem for so long now and still have an active case on it. My issue was escalated up to Dev back on June 10th and I have had no updates since, I am starting to wonder if Dev even exists at this point?

I don't see these options in the widget; what specifically are you looking at where you have filter options on the Active Alerts widget?
-
Sure thing, it's case #807448. I use an account limitation called CustomerID which is tied to a Node Custom Property called CustomerID. I use this to limit the customer to see only nodes where the CustomerID matches their ID. Unfortunately the new Alerts widget doesn't seem to honor that limitation and only show nodes…

Thanks kellytice!

What is on the summary page you don't want them to see? The general Node Details has a lot of stuff that I have added that we use internally that we don't want them to see, two specific default items include the Topology data and the Custom Properties.
-
while that is not implemented yet, you can log on to the orion server, open advanced alert manager and disable all alerts... not as comfortable but thats what we do for now... The only problem with this if I understand what Donald is suggesting is that you would need to know about the impending event in advanced.…

I agree, this would be a very nifty feature to have!
-
Thanks for the info, I will be sure to run any ideas by our auditors first.
-
I run into this problem as well. Just to make sure I understand you, do you actually create a different view for each restricted user where the View Limitation is set to only the stuff they are allowed to see?
-
Also, I just downloaded the Upgrade Instructions for v10 in the customer portal; however, it seems that they have not been updated since 9.5.1. Am I missing something here?
-
Thanks for the info. If I do this are there settings/configurations that are not stored in the database that I should expect to loose?
-
This breaking out the different node resources seems like a relatively standard use of this feature and something I am planning on doing in the future as well. My current use of this feature is somewhat different than this. I have created two specific dashboard in our system, one is a licensing dashboard and one is our…

Hey Nicole I just wanted to check and confirm that it's still true that LEM doesn't have any form of SDK or API that can be used to expose data? I understand why it wouldn't with it being a "secure" system; however, we are trying to find a way to expose the data in a multi-tenancy environment and this would be our 2nd best…

My suggestion here would be to use mailing lists on mail server and then just send to groups of people that way. When working with customers, this is normally what I suggest. I know that SolarWinds is also working on an alert management product that will help with this type of thing as well.
-
Glad I was able to help. Thanks for your response it's good to hear that this doesn't seem to break anything. I am thinking that this could be pretty useful going forward.
-
tcore I have opened a feature request to have this resolved.
-
Thanks for that info tcore. I have no idea why they would impose such silly limitations. From my perspective anything should be able to be linked to anything else. A perfect example would be an Incident requiring a Change Request (Request) to be resolved. In this case I would want to link the Request to the Incident.
-
Well, to be honest this was not my request; it was requested from one of my co-workers. I guess I took it to assume that it being a scheduler one might be able to see what is currently scheduled and what is executing. I guess a bit like looking at Windows Task Scheduler but with a lot more stuff going on (i.e. jobs getting…

That was my understanding as well as I had outlined above, I was just looking for confirmation on that fact. Thanks for the confirmation!
-
theoretically, there should be 3 IPs, 1 real IP on each box and 1 virtual IP. IF that is the case, you'd probably want to monitor all 3. If in fact, there is only one, I do not think it would be possible to monitor the ghost box at the time it was not answering for the IP. The clustering that we do is exactly this model…

You could make a custom property for "VPN Device" an exclude these devices in the alert. I considered suggesting this as well but realized why Donald probably hasn't done this already. In large or complex installations of Orion it becomes difficult to manage a very large list of custom properties as well as all of the…
-
Awesome, that sounds like what I suspected but I wanted to confirm. Thanks again!
-
Roger Yeah, I found the new one right after I posted this question but had not yet had an opportunity to post my own answer as I was pulled into a meeting. I should also point out how totally awesome the new one is, very nice job! One question I do have about the new one, it it compatible with Windows 2008 and the changes…

msteinvertifi thanks for the info!
-
Hrm, not sure how that would work but it is a good idea if I could make it work. The thing is each sensor is the same node with a bunch of different applications applied to represent the temperature sensors. The node is a meta-node that really doesn't represent anything other than maybe the datacenter because its the…

Ah, so I take that to mean it's a known issue in the version I am running. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly on this!

I found out today that Juniper uses custom MIBS and Solarwinds/Orion does not support anything that is not outside of the standard. They can add custom MIBS, but I am told by their support that it would be very hard to get Solarwinds to do that. My company has put in a completely new WAN/LAN using Juniper and now that…

Thanks for the response! I certainly want to do more than sneak by and from what I can tell if I am looking at everything correctly; it seems that using LEM for the FIM requirements with the FIM driver in Windows and Auditd in Linux may actually be a pretty good solution for not just PCI but security overall. The benefit…

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

I also get the blue question mark (unknown) resources as a relatively common occurance. In the case that SNMP is working is this just a re-index that has taken place? Also, will these eventually be removed automatically or do I have to manually go through and clean these up?
