Yes, I suggested IIS with the hopes that it could possibly help with the scale/volume/response times. With reporting I would like something that can look back and historical logs and create reports on specified criteria. The problem right now is that the logs are stored off to text files which can become large and Notepad…

I would love to hear what you are working on as soon as you have information that you can share!
-
Thanks, that is exactly what feature I am looking for so I voted on it also.

Good question. We don't actually have VMAN but I recently set it up in the lab for a demo. VMAN is consistent with vCenter which only further suggests that Orion has incorrect data. VMAN

How did you get the value into a Guage. I used the OID and I only get the Chart or Table option when assigning it to the web display? It depends on the data type. If the data is tabular you won't have a gauge option because there is no good way to present tabular data in a gauge.

So, if I understand your response correctly, the workflow that I am looking for should all be possible through the SDK?
-
Yeah, neither did I; it's about as clear as mud. LOL

The 1.5 - 2 Gb per day is based on the space they take up on ou current syslog-ng system.

Awesome, thanks Brandon!

Well, the upside of SolarWinds acquiring companies is that the features in those products often get migrated into Orion. I like to them of it as SolarWinds purchasing new technology for the Orion product line. The downside to the acquisitions is that the functionality overlap between products can cause some confusion. The…

Sweet, thanks qle!

If you could post screenshots of the alerts mrxinu can probably point out the alerting logic that is causing the problems.

The only difference between our accounts that I am aware of is that I have admin permissions on the Windows 2008 system itself while she only has user access. Both of our accounts in NCM are at the Admin level.

Hey Byron-- I'll let PM know--it sounds like you want a superhero version of the Web Console ;-) M Well, since the development direction seems to be web based (which I completely support), a superhero version of that would be awesome. In lieu of that, a superhero version of the management console application located on the…

Questionario is correct in that you can't create graphical custom reports from within SolarWinds. In order to accomplish this you will need some external program that captures the data from the database with SQL queries and then graphs it for you. SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) is one of the tools that can make this…
-
Hrm, it seems to me that you want to alert against this as a stateful problem but the nature of Syslog is not something that really supports this because it isn't stateful. I am surprised you don't run into this a lot more using Syslog. Instead of using Syslog, would it be possible to use SNMP to monitor the status of the…

For what it is worth, I would like to see everything moved to the web ui, the less reasons I have to log on to the console the better. By having things done in a web ui access is much easier and it also makes it easier for me to allow more users to perform administrative tasks so long as the permission structure of the…

wluther funny thing, I am actually rooting for you to pass me up! While I am still a huge advocate and involved in Thwack and our SolarWinds tools, my role at our company has changed to InfoSec and with that I am no longer nearly as focused on our SolarWinds tools so I would expect that the number of Thwack points I am…

My understanding after talking with both PM's and my Sales Rep over at SolarWinds is that their plans are to work toward integration of the Profiler line into the Orion line. I (as it sounds like you do as well) completely endorse this direction. However, at the same time I don't want to see Orion become fragmented into…

Brandon Are there any plans on doing anything with this field for Advanced Alerts (which are pretty much the standard for alerting)? It would be really nice to see this get used, and if that isn't possible just have it removed so it doesn't give a false sense of "something is missing".

Well, I glad to see that I am not the only person seeing this problem. I am running NPM 9.5 SP2. This problem is very annoying on the one device as it is generating a lot of unncessary events (noise), I am really concerned what this problem will look like as I begin to add the rest of my gear to Orion.

We have much more in-house expertise on SQL Server than we do MySQL. Just to make sure I understand, with the out-of-the-box settings DPA will try and store more data than SQL Express is capable of handling even when only monitoring one SQL instance?

Is there a ratio of # of syslog entries to # of hours to complete upgrading from NPM 9.5(.1) to NPM 10? We have 200,000 entries for syslog and were wondering approx how long it would take. I noticed some people took 24 hours and was curious how many entries they had. We had a lot more syslog entries than that and the…

Ok, now I am ready to pick this battle. I just opened a SolarWinds support ticket, Ticket #245439
-
Well, I only have one customer reporting this error and at this point I have bigger fish to fry and I need to pick my battles. I will likely hold off on a ticket for this one. I was just hoping somebody may have a quick explanation or fix that they had run across. Thanks for the response Brandon.

Interestingly enough, I know find myself in a situation where I am having to use a work-around because I can't put a threshold into these charts. The work around I am using is creating a "transform results" graph that is based on a percent of the configured threshold. Unfortunately the threshold is hard-coded into the…

Firstly in he most recent version of LEM you no longer need the Adobe Air desktop console, you can just open a browser and point it at the IP of your LEM console and it opens in the browser using Adobe Flash. I personally like it much better. That data isn't lost, it just isn't there in the active console since your…

I have a large Orion deployment: Orion Server, HSB engine, 9 Polling Engines, and a monster DB server all are on blade servers. Been running there for the last three years. No issues All are HP Blade Servers - E5450 (2HTx3.00 GHz) with 16 GB RAM; same hardware for the DB, but 32 GB RAM The NICs are teamed and set to…

Here is another new one out there that might be worth looking at, see here Hrm... This looks strangely like something you were recently asking me about?

Er, sorry, I had that wrong, I meant to type this... SELECT Caption FROM Nodes WHERE EntityType = 'Orion.VirtualMachine'
