Byron - we completely agree. If it can be done in a way that works for everything, great. If it needs to be done two or more ways depending on the hardware, so be it. As long as it is true uptime! I totally agree!

borgan is correct. I basically had to train myself to create the maps in the reverse order from what felt natural. Always start at the bottom and work your way up to the top.
-
Awesome, thanks for pointing this out. I will certainly take a look.
-
Well, that's all correct based on my understand but then again, you are Certified and I am not so really, you should be telling me if that is correct! = )

Yah, here is a post where Denny from SW points this out (I think I have seen others as well)... The Import/Export function for Advanced Alerts would allow different users in the SW community to share complex alerts that they have created. Additionally if you are running multiple instances of Orion you can move Advanced…

Can you explain me more about this ? I have APM. Contracer Check in APM for the User Experience Monitors, there are several for testing round trip email. I think those will do what you are looking for... or at least come pretty close. = )
-
Thanks Steven! Unfortunately I can't take complete credit for that. I read about that idea in a much older post where somebody else very elegantly documented the solution.
-
Pretty much all application and user experience monitoring is accomplished with the SolarWinds Application Performance Monitor.

Somebody... anybody...??? This unknown resource thing is confusing as I don't know the cause for sure and don't know what to do with them.
-
Thanks Bshopp, I assume this means there isn't anything I can do about it until it is fixed.... that is other than "don't click on those"?
-
viol8tor Thanks for this additional info. How do you hide some fields while allowing your customers access to modify other fields? This is something I might like to do if I knew how.

Using the Universal Device Poller would be ideal. I'm wanting all disk volumes to appear on one graph. Except trying to find out OID information I would need to use is the challenge. Is there an easy way of knowing the OID for the part I'm after? The Custom HTML resource seems to work for me. However the Custom HTML I have…

While I don't have any experience with EventSentry, I have worked with both LEM and SAM. I personally think that using logs for monitoring the status of services isn't very effective, SAM is a much better system for this because it's active and stateful. On the other hand, LEM's correlation engine is very powerful and does…
-
Well, I appreciate your efforts to find a workaround for this. I am eagerly waiting for SolarWinds to make this work so I can link to custom documents on a per node basis.
-
There isn't a way that I know of to compare one OID against another as a threshold. However, you can use nested conditions in the alerting logic requiring that multiple conditions be met before an alert is triggered. So you could say if value from an OID is less than 20 or greater than 60 then trigger. In SAM you can set…

Thanks for the tip, I will try it out. These forums have a better editor than the alert manager, and I think thats just wrong.. Ok, that really made me laugh and sadly it's true.
-
Larry Sorry if I misunderstood... In the case where you were overwhelming the LEM system, what was the specific suggestion of SolarWinds support? Also, do you remember how many logs per second you were sending to LEM that was overwhelming it? Are these limitations of the system documented because I would really be…

, this idea of sharing tabs actually got me thinking... These tabs would be a great way for SolarWinds to integrate other non-Orion SW products into Orion. SW could create and share tabs that they have created that are specifically designed to integrate data from other SW products into the Orion suite.
-
At this point I have two different places where I have utilized this new feature and of course would be happy to share; however, I will warn you that what I have is not very interesting.
-
Aloha... That is a work around, and I use them to restart services and launch programs, but was hoping there was a way to utilize existing infrastructure to correct this. Especially with 2014 just around the bend. Mahalo... I believe you have pointed out that it doesn't currently support it due to the changes in Windows 7…
-
Do you have APM also? If so you can do this with an application monitor that utilizes SNMP components.
-
The initial connections always seem slow, even with the additional web component. When I restart Orion and have to re-establish my connection it always takes forever, I am guessing this is due to some caching that takes place. I just keep my browser opened to it all of the time to avoid this. In your case I don't think you…

Correct In the syslog viewer where you setup your alerts, in the action tab where you set it to email you there is also an alert option called Stop Processing. You want to make sure you don't have that on your first rule so that anything that matches the rule can continue to be tested against other rules.' I am not…

wouldnt it be easy on your part to include the ability to show a finer granularity and show like 2-3digits after the comma? I can imagine that some managers ask for it... Yeah, that is kinda what I was hoping for.
-
I know, I was really expecting to see hear about some unique and cool things that people had done or interesting problems they have solved using LEM.
-
We just did a fesh install of NPM 9.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 and I am experiencing this same problem when I attempt to launch the System Manager. I also get the same error when I attempt t launch Monitor Polling Engines under Advanced Features. Orion is new to our company and we are trying to get this up ASAP so I hope…

If the newer version is working and stable then I would stick with it. Instead of downgrading we could try and get you the data you need on the newer version because at some point you will likely want/need to move forward to the newer version anyway. What data is it that you were accessing before that you can't get now?
-
I am running version 10.4.2
-
To the Community Managers, since it seems this post is about NPM Syslog this post should probably be moved over there to that space.

I use the 2nd one to weed out false positives. For example with APM I check URL's which sometimes will report as down due to latency. I set it to check for the alert every 5 minutes and I also tell it to not trigger an alert until the issue has existed for at least 4 minutes. By doing this it will have been checked and…
