You can poll SNMP data with APM if it's configured on the systems that APM is managing. The real question is what are you ultimately trying to accomplish, what are your goals for your system? Depending on how you answer that question, APM Standalone may or may not be the best solution for you.

So, the answer is that I can't change the scale for the gauge at the component level?
-
No, this is not currently available in any version of Orion; however, it is one of the top things that they are working on if I am not mistaken.
-
I am new to solar winds, so forgive my ignorance! But wear do you create this "view" at? Go into the Admin (click "Settings" in upper right corner) section of the WebUI and from there choose the option "Manage Views". In here you can create different dashboards when can then be used to send as reports. Hope this helps!

If there is a way to do that I am not aware of it. That being said; I think it would be great if the product could so that. Hopefully one of the product managers will chime in and give confirmation if that is possible or not.

jeilers unfortunately you are correct that Orion STILL does not handle multi-tenancy very well. I have been able to use custom node properties based account limitations to mostly restrict users but through proper URL modification they can still get to things that they shouldn't.

With net-snmp you can run the configuration utility by typing "snmpconf". This will provide a menu driven interface that will build your configuration file. Once you have the configuration file you can just copy it into the proper location and restart SNMP service for the changes to take effect. You can use this menu…

I also went ahead and put a Feature Request for this HERE.

You will need to create an advanced alert for a Custom Poller. There is an option for that in the alert type drop down when you go to create the alert.
-
Well, unfortunately the only thing that found was a few log files. I will open a ticket with support to see if they can help and if not escalate the ticket up the chain. There has to be someplace where that text exists and can hopefully be modified. I am just really surprised that wasn't one of the templates in the WebUI.
-
Awesome, thanks kellytice! I will give it a try as soon as I can and let you know how it works out. Seems ultimately that should just be an email template in the WebUI since it makes sense that this is something one may want to change like I do. I will put in a feature request for that.

Even easier way to force job update (recreation) should be "Poll now" from application detail resource. I just had this problem with an application yesterday, "Poll Now" for some reason didn't fix it; however "Unmanage"/"Re-Manage" did fix it. I am not completely clear on the specific differences regarding the scheduler…

Thanks Craig, that's exactly the type of information I was looking for. If my understanding is correct, even when running on an NPM polling engine, the APM polling is managed by a seperate set of processes. If this is the case then the same number should be resonable so long as the polling engine has the necessary…

No, everything is running when I execute these commands.

Well, after working with SolarWinds support it seems that this issue was somehow associated with the specific username causing problems for Orion Additional Web, at least that's our best guess. After making a bunch of changes as part of testing the problem magically went away. Unfortunately no solid conclusions were made.

Thanks for the reply. If I don't set the Alert Escalation, Does an Alert need to be reset before being triggered again? It depends. It does have to be rearmed before it can trip again. However, lets say you have a high CPU alert tripped for Node 1, the alert can trip again for Node 2 without the one for Node 1 being…

Yes, we currently have plans to collect hardware information from ESX hosts via CIM. This information however is standardized and easier to support and implement. We have an early beta of APM with support for VMWare that's currently available. If you're interested in checking it out, let me know and I'll get it over to…
-
I am pretty sure that this is not currently possible. However, I know that there have been a lot of feature requests for improving the UnDP graph customization options.
-
I noticed that the URL that you are using is the IP/Port number versus the actual URL. Have you tried plugging in the actual IP/Port in your browser address bar to simulate what the check is actually doing to see what you get?
-
The patch seemed to pretty much solve the initial problem and I think (though I am not certain) that the fix was rolled out in the post recent set of patches for everybody. Now we think we may have a different polling problem where some node level collections will stop on groups of systems at a time. This problem is a bit…
-
Well, my solution for that is much less elegant than I think you are giving me credit for. We are somewhat selective about what we generate alerts/tickets on. For example; we only create tickets on a few select interfaces going down, for the most part interfaces going down doesn't' constitute a ticket. As much as I try and…

I agree that a more robust alert editor is much needed. I would like to see all of the above in addition to a way to manage email/alert contacts. It would be great to be able to have devices/people organized into groups so alerting a group would be as easy as adding that group into the alert rather then having to put each…

I think it performs better. When I upgraded to Windows 2008 that is also the time when I moved the systems from physical servers to VM's. When they were on physical servers they had 2 CPU's with 4 cores each. When I moved them to VM's I only gave my pollers 2vCPU's and my Additional Web and NCM only 1vCPU each. After all…

Hi Byron-- You might be imagining it. Here is the list of what's being work on for the next release. I'll mark this for the PM to log. M I knew the lack of sleep would catch up to me eventually!
-
Ah, now I see what you are after. I am at home and don't have access to my Orion system to check but I am wondering if this information would be available in a report?
-
I am sure this type of report is possible but would likely need to be done as a SQL query. Best practice would be to do this in a more dynamic way as I suggested above, then you don't need to worry about this type of problem in the first place.
-
Are you planning to continue to use both Orion and OpenView or do you plan to migrate from OpenView to Orion? I ask because it may be worth your time to integrate Orion with Remedy similarly to how you have done with OpenView. Once you have done the integration piece once it should just be a wash-rinse-repeat for each…
-
Have you tried the Forward Trap option and change the port to 514? I am not sure if this will work or no as I have not tried it.
-
maybe you could stop it from becoming to much spam to you by having a white list. Or a list that check the points of the poster and is say if > 1,000, auto approve. I think that's a great idea!

On a positive note, I believe they are planning on updating the Topology Discovery to include Layer 3 information as well as part of the discovery. That will likely help with many devices.
