Well, I wouldn't have found it without your suggestion; sometimes it takes two sets of eyes to come up with a good solution! I do appreciate the help!

Dclick-- Thanks for the speedy response. Would you mind trying drilling down to a particular forum and letting me know the results? Also, what browser are you using? M Marie I use FireFox and have experienced the same thing for many of the searches that I have done. I also leave it set to "Entire Site" when I search. In…

This is an option, in fact we are doing something similar to this on a more global scale to continuously make sure our polling engine is running properly as we had a lot of problems with it stopping for no reason a few months back. That being said, I guess I would expect this type of functionality to be part of an NMS.…

So, if I had the following alert and suppression for that alert, would it suppress the alert for only the node named Bob and still notify me for all other nodes where the CPU was greater than 90 or would it always suppress the alert so long as a node existed in the database named Bob? In my experience it would suppress all…

Mav Thanks for the response. This issue is severely limiting our ability to fully utilize the Orion product(s) in an MSP environment. While I believe you understand the severity of the concern I am less convinced that there is an initiative to do something about it considering how long it has been a known issue.

What Kiwi doesn't give me is the agent functionality, I would like to see a distributed architecture that leverages the agent capabilities. For example, if I had the ability to set a flag that would turn a single agent at a site as the relay agent that all of the other agents at that site talked to and then that relay…

Thanks for the additional info. I have used Kiwi before and am familiar with it's capabilities, it's certainly a good option for the cost. I could certainly use Kiwi as a form of remote collector that sends back to LEM and for the cost it would make sense.

i need this function-feature today! we are about to migrate from using CA (Computer Associates) products to only using Solarwinds - CA manages this to the highest degree but it really is bad with Orion. and also - i'm hearing we may very soon be getting Numara as well - how do you like it? Numara Footprints seems like a…

Well, as you might expect, as soon as I put in the rules as you suggested my systems decided that they were going to operate perfectly and not throw any more traps. Until the system decides to misbehave and throw some more traps I won't be able to tell you. Isn't this just always how it works out. = )

Ok, thanks for the response. I really hope to see this in the next release. I really want to have the ability to restrict customers to a combination of nodes and interfaces which I can't currently do.
-
Awesome, thanks for this additional information. At least I don't need to let this keep me from upgrading.
-
Ah, I had missed the Add Related Items; that is super helpful!
-
Yes, all of my Orion systems have internet access.
-
You basically have two options... The one pointed out by Jeff where you unmanage the node which you can do across multiple nodes in the Node Management section of the WebUI. The second option is the one pointed out by Netlogix where you use a custom property to stop alerts or "Mute" the node. This option does require you…

Hmmm, I don't believe there is a way to accomplish what you are wanting to do today. I am double checking further and if not I will enter a request into our system to look at adding in the future. Awesome, thanks Brandon!

Ah, it would seem that .csv was the secret sauce, not the .txt extension that was shown in the video.
-
You would write a SQL query to do this. If you are not familiar with SQL, I would strongly suggest you learn some of the basics if you are going to be managing an NMS system. One of the best books you can get which has been referenced here in the forums before is Sams Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes, well worth the money…

Ah, so the APM_ComponentStatus_Detail.ID maps to APM_PortEvidence_Detail.ComponentStatusID, is that correct?
-
This is exactly what I need. I need Solarwinds to send me an email alert with all the detail information from Windows Event Logs. I have created a simiple monitor (Windows Event Logs) in APM to alert me (email) for any errors in Windows Event Logs. the message I get on my email is this - "The return code is different than…

Sounds good; thanks curtisi!
-
Ok, thanks for getting back to me on that!
-
Does that root access make it so that you can multi-home it without running into problems as suggested by jhg03a?
-
I guess my next question regarding this for SolarWinds would be; is this intended behavior and therefore will it stay around and not be removed at some point? I ask because I think this is awesome but would hate to build a bunch of stuff that relies on it only to have this functionality go away. Hey, just because I am…

Umm, we have two different answers from two different SWStaff members. Can I please get a clarification on this so that we are sure?

Just wanted to follow up on this and let you all know that amazingly Orion was able to sort it out over time and now has everything associated properly. I would be really interested to know what process and details Orion uses to make the association of ESX Host to vCenter? I am happy that it's working as I would like it to…
-
This is not a big enough implementation to justify the cost of an additional poller. I am monitoring the vCenter, hosts and guests. I am polling ESX directly because if I try and poll them through vCenter it wants to add them to Orion with their real IP's which isn't visible to Orion due to the NAT'ing that is in place.
-
If you look up at my original response I noted that I created a Custom Volume Property called Utilization Threshold. By doing this I am able to use just these two alerts to cover any possible needs with regard to volume utilization alerting.
-
Do you have SNMP configured and working on the Windows system? With regard to the undp file, you need to open the Universal Device Poller tool on the console of your Orion system and import that file. Once this is done you can enable those pollers on the Windows system in Orion. Instructions on how to utilize the Universal…

So I guess one way of working my way around it is once the DB is full and throwing out the oldest events I can do a new backup every week. While that wouldn't empty out the active LEM DB it would provide the longer term retention that could then be stored on slower disks... unless I am missing something obvious?

I think the article you reference here may be out of date as the button it shows in the interface does not exist in my system... If you want to see/search a bunch of raw logs in LEM, check out this KB article: SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Using your LEM Console to view and search original log messages.
