  • Dave Well I am equally glad to hear that I am not the only person with this problem. = ) I figured I would start on the forum as I usually do and if that didn't pan out I would then open a support ticket. At the very least I now have evidence that I am no the only one with this problem. Thanks for your response.
  • Donald I just put in a feature request for the Groups functionality of NPM that would make that functionality more easily server this purpose... at least I think it would. You can see that feature request HERE.
  • Awesome follow-up, thanks for this. While I understand the "add more beef" to the system concept. I guess my only concern would be the drive size limiting my data retention but I guess that is potentially a problem either way. By adding the raw data-store I just reduce it even more.
  • Good point, do you know where those certificates are stored so I can verify they are being backed up?
  • Before jumping to 11.5.2 RC1 I was assured that it was supported in a production environment. The first support guy I talked to didn't really want to help me because I was on an RC. I am still kicking myself as I still have 5 tickets open since upgrading to it and it's sucking up a ton of my time.
  • Ticket has been opened, thanks guys!
  • Vulnerability assessment and log correlation are both completely new markets that Solarwinds would be trying to break into. Tough job, and very expensive in terms of upfront investment. I realize that this would be a new market for them; however, they are already very established in the System Monitoring market and there…
  • Karlo This isn't more than I was looking for, this is exactly what I was looking for, thanks! As a followup, do do you mean when you say the following... There are more settings to ping more than once on the initial status poll, too.

  • LOL We are not moving to Kiwi though I think that may not be a bad idea for some stuff. I am working on a customer project where we will potentially be providing Log Management as a service and Kiwi is one of the potential products for the job. In all honesty I have really been let down by the options out there as far as…
  • Perfect, that is exactly what I needed to know!
  • Again, thanks so much for the info!
  • Yeah, I saw that but I believe that is only if you want to be accessing the API which in this case we don't need to. I was really hoping somebody from SolarWinds would chime in on this and confirm for me. I tried calling support but I didn't get a very good feeling that the guy I was talking to had a high degree of…
  • Hrm, I was afraid of that. We use SNMP as our standard and WMI only when necessary. It seems that with Orion more and more things are moving to WMI which is good because it's agent-less but bad because it's slow as molasses on a cold winters day.
  • Adding information into the Custom Properties columns should not be an issue. Adding new columns to the Tables would cause issues. Thanks Sean! This is what I thought but figured better to play it safe and verify first.
  • If you use SAM you can get a lot more of this information. Also with more recent versions NPM & SAM have become much better at handling Linux. NPM still doesn't see the Linux version but that is less a failure of NPM and more a failure of the net-snmp agent which is terribly maintained. Since NPM talks to the SNMP agent on…
  • Awesome, thanks for the quick response Nicole!
  • Denny While I am a full supporter of the full AD integration, for those that may not plan to use AD having additional information attached to a user account would be nice. Probably just a few fields for the common stuff; Full Name, UserID, Role, Email, Comments. You know, the typical stuff you see with most applications.…
  • You should be able to rename your nodes just as easily, if not easier in the web interface. You can go to the node and edit it in the Node Details resource. Alternatively you can go into the Manage Nodes section of the web interface, select the node you want to edit, and edit it there as well. Ultimately renaming a node in…
  • Well, I would like to see all of that. Additionally, (and this is likely a feature request for all system active response) I would like to see the ability to execute a script/program on the system.
  • This document seemed accurate and I was able to get it working. The screenshots are out of date compared to the current TripWire UI; however the content is still accurate.
  • Why yes it did!
  • Thanks for the follow-up. It's the answer I expected but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Hopefully there is enough support behind the feature request that it is eventually considered.
  • When an alert is triggered, it only looks at the reset condition. If I understand what you want to do, I think you can just use the "Reset when trigger conditions are no longer true" radio button on the Reset Condition tab. Thanks Tim. My experience with it suggests that you are correct in both cases, I was just looking…
  • But there is a theoretical limit based on memory that particular transaction occupies. When transactions are passed around in WPM they are serialized in memory. If there is so many actions that total size in memory exceeds certain value (which depends on environment, current WPM process state etc., but is in tens or even…
  • Thanks jiri.tomek!
  • I noticed that you have added this as an External node. Have you tried adding it as an ICMP node, this will allow Orion to ping the node to tell if it's actually up or not.
  • Ok, getting closer. When you add the Gateway, does that only add one or does that let you run as many as you want? As a side note, the way the licensing is laid out here is incredibly confusing; I would much prefer to have a single menu of all my options and what the cost of each of those items is.
  • The rule itself seems to be working well, the only problem I have is as I initially mentioned, the lack of IP addresses being captured for some systems. Also, as I noted I suspect that this may be a result of NetBIOS capturing the system name instead.
  • Yes; it was copied from another rule that came in the product though I don't recall off the top of my head which one it was.
