After doing some investigation and speaking with our Windows System Engineer, it seems that the Runtime 70 error has historically been associated with DCOM permission issues. Also, it was suggested that granting proper access to the application file structure may help resolve this problem as well. Based on this information…

In addition to the already mentioned problem, it seems that when my Network Admin adds nodes they show up as Unknown devices when they are actually Cisco devices. She can inventory them but they still show up as unknown. As soon as I login and/or start to run an inventory on them they get properly categorized. Is this…

Can you confirm what permissions the person will need on the Windows system in order to do this? I can at least use that as a workaround until the bug is resolved.
-
cobrien sure thing! Here is a screenshot where you can see NetPath suggesting packet loss on an interface on the Firewall; however, we are unable to actually substantiate this packet loss anywhere. Also on the graph at the bottom I have added the Packet Loss graph and it also doesn't show any packet loss. I am trying to…

In this specific case I had the network guys tag the information in the network device itself and just pulled that data into a table via SNMP to use as a Legend. This probably won't work in most cases.
-
I understand. I found the reference to those alerts in sean.martinez's (part of SolarWinds tech support) response in the following thread: SNMP stops responding on Windows servers (affecting half of our nodes) His response states these alerts act on lack of SNMP information which seems to imply that last polling time isn't…

Thanks so much for this information. Are the 200+ clients all accessing the Orion web interface?
-
curtisi: awesome, thanks for pointing that out. So, is there an easy way to tell what log types the connectors are designed to handle? I am guessing this is something obvious that I am just not thinking about?
-
Hrm, I see your plight. <thinking out loud> What if you were to forward the Trap as a Syslog and then alert on it from there? I haven't tried this but I can see that an alert option is to forward it to port 514 (syslog). </thinking out loud>

I wasn't the one that actually followed up, it was one of the folks on my network team. With that said, if I recall correctly is was actually a problem with the product that they had suggested would be resolved in a later version.
-
I personally think that a good place to start with this would be the ability to alert based on rate of change. While not exactly the same thing, it certainly helps detect a deviation from "normal". I imaging configuring the percent change and the number of polling cycles over which to look for the change. I am curious to…

Awesome, thanks for the info aLTeReGo! I have a support case already open on this and have sent them some of the logs so I will ask and see if they confirm it's consistent with this known issue that was resolved.
-
I am going to agree with Outsidesys in that having the ability to parse out the different parts of the trap for Alerting, etc would make the product much more powerful. We also would be able to take advantage of this ability.
-
I will post my results; however, I lied to you all. This is actually a SNMP process monitor, not WMI. I apologize for my confusion. I am used to using WMI for all of our Windows stuff and this was the one exception. I am still working with Support and will post my results as soon as I have them.

Byron, you mentioned you were looking for a tool to help one of your network engineers with a project he was working on. What sort of problems were you looking to solve? What other tools would you like to see? Are there other tools you use today but don't quite work for you? My engineer was looking for a way to determine…
-
Awesome, thanks for the help on this. As a note (or feature request), this type of workflow integration within the Orion suite is what I would like to see as native functionality.
-
Well it would seem the difference between them is the ones categorized as "[Unknown]" have nothing in the Vendor field versus the ones classified as "Unknown" have Unknown in the Vendor field. Now I am curious what causes the system to fill that field in with Unknown versus leaving it blank?
-
Well, I am going to hope that somebody from SW will chime in on this one. I really don't want to open a support ticket if I don't need to.
-
Would it not be possible to just use an email alert to notify you of reboots and then you have a list in your email of customers that you need to get back to? If you have a ticketing system you could have Orion open tickets in your ticketing system also for this. As far as your alert that isn't working is concerned, if you…
-
By all means, start small; you can't boil the ocean. When asked if I can support any given log type I need to be able to say "YES", it's okay if it starts out as a "YES But...".
-
Would there be any harm in using a SQL query to go through and set value to use Windows Authentication first? I have over 400 and I really don't want to go and touch each one manually.
-
The list provided by my original query were the ones I am concerned with and none of them had the Windows Authentication set to true. None of the applications have had anything override the template settings.
-
Rich The original issue that I bring up here in this thread still exists today, you can see an updated thread and response from SolarWinds HERE. To make a long story short, they are aware of the concern but don't have any short term plans of resolving it.
-
We are at a point where this security vulnerability is keeping us from providing maps to our customers and therefore restricting potential revenue opportunities. I realize that there don't seem to be many customers expressing concerns about this; however, I would hope that this issue is classified appropriately as a…
-
Thanks for logging this concern... and thanks for your prompt responses!
-
Not all requests end up being fulfilled, probably for a couple reasons. First, there are a lot of different kinds of logs out there, and not enough time to make connectors for them all. They have to prioritize the ones that seem likely to get the most use (read: the most requested) so some more obscure ones may not make…

Do you want to display the entire feed of data on the summary page or just the link to it?
-
And I had a bad feeling you were going to tell me that as well. LOL I am working on getting management to see the benefits of having VMAN so hopefully I will have it at some point.
-
This is awesome, thank you so much!

I am on SAM 6.2.1 and I have all of those things in my drop-down; however, I am not seeing any logs for these activities.
