Funny you should ask for this, I submitted a very similar feature request HERE as we suffer from problems with the console/crystal based reporting tool as well.

As I noted above, this is really easy to do, and something we do with all of our polling engines. All you need to do is create static routes in Windows telling the system how to get to the different isolated networks so that the traffic goes out the correct gateway. Once you do that you can point Orion at the IP of the…

ecklerwr1 we were/are in the same boat as you. We use DPA currently for only one of our clients but we manage dozens of databases. We have had really good success with AppInsight for SQL. We deployed that for many of our clients and were able to gain insights that allowed us to make huge improvements for them, in some…

I would have to agree with what some others said, I found a ton of value in some of the stuff I learned about IPAM in this mission.

On an interesting side node; I recently ran across Illumio and they make a security product that seems pretty unique so I thought I would share it here since this was a security thread.

Looking into this a bit more with THIS article it looks like the best option would be for LEM to support the ingestion of JSON data much like Splunk or ELK. Unfortunately we need this data from Azure so it looks like we will probably be bringing in Splunk.

I am going to have to give the Microsoft Sonar tool a try, that sounds pretty awesome!

networkingnerd as a service provider I would like to humbly ask that you be careful with making blanket statements regarding service providers. With that said, we are a hybrid-cloud solutions provider so not necessarily exactly the same type of provider you are talking about. We actually have dedicated staff for…

I am going to have to agree with Jfrazier (as I usually do). I think a few of these items may be a tad over simplified in how they are stated. Working for an MSP I don't have the luxury of spending a lot of time fine-tuning the system for a single for a few environments, I have a whole lot of environments I have to manage…

It all started with a twinkle in my fathers eye... ok... lets fast forward a bit: It really started when I was in grade school and got a Commodore 64 as hand-me-down system, it also came with a book called "Learning Basic 2.0". In middle school I decided to save up my money so I could afford a "real" computer so by the…

I agree with rschroeder that you need to control this through both corporate policy, technology and education. A company needs to have a list of approved software and a way to enforce that software other than that isn't allowed. With that said there also needs to be a process for getting new software added to the approved…

We actually use flywheel based UPS systems (versus battery) which basically capitalize on the whole momentum thing. They keep spinning long enough to keep our entire data-center online while the generator kicks in. Much more friendly on the environment due to the lack of batteries.

ecklerwr1 you aren't kidding! I just ran across a bunch of systems that were not added into Orion properly... and they wonder why I have a problem with delegation and try to do everything myself.
-
I actually didn't ever disable TLS1.0/1.1, the tech on the case just pointed out that needed to keep those enabled or I would encounter issues with my report logos. The issue that I had after the upgrade resolved itself which I think should be in the ticket as a note I sent in on it. Thanks for looking into it as I would…

This has been a great activity overall, thanks for hosting this!

I find the big data thing interesting. We only have a few clients doing much with large data sets and the ones that do often run into performance problems due to grossly under-spec'ing the environment that is doing the parsing and management of the data. The fun part about it for me is I am typically able to leverage Orion…

I am in complete agreement with you on keeping this as simple as possible. We are a service provider specializing in building environments that are personalized to each customers needs and requests. Some of our customers that are most concerned with HA and Uptime have some of the most complicated designs and ultimately…

It's not the password policy that's the problem, it's that we are still using passwords and relying only on passwords. At this point there isn't any reason to not be moving to a two-factor model in just about every case. With a 2 factor model you wouldn't need to require passwords be changed on a regular basis. Personally…

I have found that some of the most successful people are not necessarily successful because of their technical skills but because of their ability to communicate well. The key to this always seems to come down to understanding your audience and adapting your message to them.

Hrm, so how long before Orion supports CosmosDB?

Of course the challenge becomes enforcing the standards when things get real busy...especially with the newbies on the team that don't have them all down yet and are in a hurry to get a task done.So one of the standards should be a peer check (I use this for coding and general purposes...) it reduces missing things or not…

When I first installed VMAN I found that we had a 1TB snapshot on a VM that was over a year old. This type of visibility is a game changer!

Being from Oregon I can say I am pretty proud that somebody at Oregon State saved the world!

Good luck Leon and have an amazing trip. If you are ever interested in talking about how the public cloud is getting utilized I would be happy to talk to you. We migrate and manage clients in public Azure clouds as well as the private and multi-tenant clouds that we host in our data-centers.

Because we are growing we are doing a combination of both. We are working to significantly up-level our current staff but we are also adding additional staff with some of the new skills that we need.

I am sure our government has been breached more times and at more levels that we realize and that information has just not been disclosed.

This article provides a great use case of the different tool types that end up in so many environments. Ultimately having a level of oversight of the entire toolset of a company is important to avoid the overlap and maximize the value. We are actually entering a new phase of our company where we need to re-evaluate our…

The source IP seen by the monitored node will be the IP of the NIC that the data was sent from, not the engine IP.

I am not sure you can say goodbye to your experts, I think you just need different experts; that is unless the cloud solutions you are getting are basic/simple. We are a cloud services provider specializing in Azure solutions and what I can tell you is that stuff is far from simple and you certainly need experts to set it…

Unfortunately I didn't attend this track at Thwack camp so I am going to have to go back and watch this one.
