I am also really looking forward to upgrading my environment so I can work with this new technology! I love that SolarWinds keeps innovating and always look forward to see what they are working on next.

I can't wait for the Asset Management functionality and hope its rolled out for non-Windows systems as well. In addition to the polled system asset information it's also necessary to have user input asset information. Custom Properties would be a great way to do this if the grouping functionality was there as requested by…

ecklerwr1 I found the move by VMWare to partner with AWS as a desperate response to Microsoft's much grander vision with Azure Stack and the ability to move workloads between hosted clouds (using Azure Stack) and Azure proper. I should also note that it isn't just a vision, we have actually worked with the predecessor to…

We provide managed services using Azure and what we have learned from both experience and in working with Microsoft is that Azure is pretty much designed to be managed using PowerShell on the back end. There are a lot of tasks that you can do using PowerShell that are not available at all using the GUI.

Perfect, then I will do NPM first, wait a week or so and then do NCM. Thanks for all of the help Jiri, you rock!
-
I want a full refund... wait... doh!

aLTeReGo So it sounds like it pretty much does all of the same stuff the Windows agent does, is that correct?

This topic is very timely with some of the work we have been doing here. For many years our company has had a culture of "busy". Our Techs would always claim that they were "drowning in tickets" and unfortunately our Ticketing system had been implanted and managed in such a way that we have very little in the way of useful…

I have found that you have put me in a very interesting situation; I am blown away by these numbers but at the same time I shouldn't be because I live this every day. Thanks for sharing, this is some really cool data to see!
-
Having the data and a baseline is crucial. When something is working one day and not the next something changed and if you have the correct data you should be able to find what changed and hopefully correct it.

I am super excited to see this functionality finally coming to Orion! I had submitted a Feature Request for exactly this type of functionality several years back. When troubleshooting a complicated issue how often do you find yourself pulling a team together around a white board to throw up all of the data you have to…

I couldn't agree with you more network defender! I personally prefer to focus on security first and then fill in what's left to be compliant. Our approach to compliance has been to focus on the more strict compliance requirements and if you meet those the less restrictive audits are normally a breeze.

I have always been interested in working with one of these converged architectures; unfortunately, we need more flexibility than what those can currently offer. I would like to see (and if there is something out there please let me know) that offers some of the simplicity that is touted by the converged architectures with…

pseudocyber thanks for the book and application reference!

I think exercises such as that are a great way to show people the risk they are taking with social media. It's one thing to preach it but I think it hits home a lot harder if you can use a practical exercise to actually show the risk.

I think this only speaks to rschroeder point in that there needs to be a lot more realistic training around SIEM. I have found that vendor documentation on the topic to be misleading or at least not up front about the investment that it's going to take if you are going to be successful with the product. I would think that…

tinmann0715 I really enjoyed the most recent season of Black Mirror. Each season has had episodes that don't really do much for me but overall I love the series. I would agree that the last episode is excellent and pulls in some concepts from other episodes.

Most vendors I work with already have their own remote tools to support my applications, etc. If they don't I use GoToMeeting, after having such great experiences using it with SolarWinds support I had our company sign up for it.
-
I find the whole Kaspersky debacle very sad because Kaspersky is the best anti-virus software I have ever worked with in an enterprise environment not to mention they always had great support.

Our most modern datacenter was built from the ground up to be a "green" datacenter. Instead of using AC units we use indirect evaporate coolers and the water used for those is almost all collected by the rooftop of the datacenter and stored in an underground containment tank. We are located in a very temperate environment…

michael stump I can't agree more with you on this. I find myself constantly trying to explain that there is no such thing as a "temporary" solution.

The last wager question took me forever to figure out, then I realized the obvious place to look for it.

Ultimately for us the important thing here would be having the ability to tell what percent capacity a polling engine is at with regard to SAM polling. My understanding is that the current Polling Rate capacity does not factor in SAM.

Yet another list of exciting new goodies!

Thanks Steven, I will give this a try and see if accomplishes what I am looking for.

We are as service provider and the Virtualization monitoring is really critical as we host many clients on our virtualization platforms. Simple things such as a snapshot that somebody forgot to delete can have huge performance impacts; virtualization monitoring provides great insights into these types of issues.

What an awesome trip! Hopefully at some point in my career I will be able to attend more of these types of events.
-
Amen to that ecklerwr1! I couldn't have said it better myself.

As things continue to change and the velocity of change increases it's definitely becoming critical that we have good monitoring systems in place to see the status of everything and when a problem does arise to be able to quickly isolate and resolve it. I agree with petergwilson in that ML and AI will be helpful new…

We have been using both NPM and SAM for years and absolutely love the product. The single pane of glass has helped us identity problems on countless occasions, I can't imagine what our lives would be like now without this combination. On one recent occasion we had a client indicate they had a problem on a few of their…
