Proper staff levels and Proper PayTo me there are 2 wrong ways to staff a business: * A whole lot of underpaid staff. (Quantity over Quality) * Not enough average paid staff What I would do is invest in my people. I think you save money in the long run when you pay your people what they are worth. I have seen through my…

To hear the presentation experts (for example Carmine Gallo author of books such as Talk Like Ted and The Presentation secrets of Steve Jobs) Power Point should have died a long time ago and has been dead to the top presenters for a long time. I look forward to seeing Sway in action.

Captain America versus Jack Sparrow looks solid, but Han Solo is getting a free ride into the finals versus the winner of Crunch versus Stubin

Organizational Shifts are great when they actually result in stream-lining. However, we have a saying here where i work. If you do the same thing over and over again, that is the definition of insanity. If you do the same thing over and over again but add the word agile to the front of it, that is the definition of [Insert…

Unfortunately, we for a long time existed in a culture where the primary goal was to blame someone, the secondary goal was to make sure it never happened again and the tertiary goal was finding the root cause and really only if you needed it to accomplish goal 1 or 2. Thankfully our culture has changed.

I remember years ago my career was going no where. I asked a successful director for his advice and he told me to learn SQL. I went home and learned it over the Weekend with SAM learn SQL in 24 hours and a Youtube Channel called Joes to Pros. That jump started a learning hunger in me. Using Youtube and Stack Overflow, I…

Or there was the NCIS episode where Abby and McGee are trying to stop a hacker and both are typing on the same computer keyboard at the same time like a duet on a piano. Of course, Gibbs saves the day and stops the Hacker's access to the Network by unplugging Abby's workstation.

Learning from the past is so valuable as is preparing for the future, but our organization is stuck in the present or better the moment. Too often the motto is "we don't know what to do...do it faster" We just had a major shake up at the Enterprise CIO level that I hope will address this. The promotion was one of our 4…

It is the tough thing of needing to implement best practices for processes, standardization and optimization when you are treading water. It is is vicious circle.

We have been tracking power consumption on the raised floor for a few years now. Our Data Center facilitators are able to get real-time and trending on changes as a result of air flow, new units, new equipment, etc. When they make changes they are able to see whether the costs go up or down.

Hollywood would just do like they do with all the reboots from my childhood: *** it up so I can't share it with my kids who are the same age I was when I feel in love with the movie.

Funny you say that about Noise. We have a team that has gotten carried away with their new toy Splunk. There must be a send all mode, because they are sending out useless notifications and lots of them and by lots I mean Powerball sized numbers of notifications.

It would be so handy, especially when you are working with voip nodes that list resources returns thousands of virtual interfaces.
