The alert message is easy enough to test and it never made sense to only test that. I sometimes create alerts and I have to constantly wonder if my logic made sense and changing the trigger values are not a viable way to test the alert.

What we do is monitor each server and do a standard packet loss response time monitor for devices on that particular poller. If the graph is missing color or there are breaks then I know there is a problem with the polling engine. Of course if there is a web issue then the page won't load at all but this is how we confirm…
