If you still want the database and the Orion poller on the same server, I would migrate the DB first so that Orion can find it when the Configuration Wizard runs. There is a database migration procedure on the Solarwinds website in the knowledge base that you should use to make sure the DB gets moved successfully. You…

Thanks for the suggestion. I am getting a formatting error on the Trigger Condition tab of the alert. Thoughts?
-
Freemen, have you had any further luck with this. I have couple of 2950s as well.

The message is indeed normal. I suspect that the message may not actually function on the demo site. One more thing to keep in mind if you eventually plan to increase the flows you send to NTA. You should use the following formula to determine how much storage you will need to store the flow data for the default 30 day…

Then I think you may want to use the default transmit or receive "Top Talkers" alerts. They include the email web page alert action that has a dynamic link built in. Hope that helps.
-
Actually, if I may interject, you should be able to use the canned report, "Average Availability for the Entire Network". Just modify the Filter Results tab and add a filter for Vendor=Cisco. The resulting value will be the average availability for all Cisco devices for the time period selected. Hope that is what you want.

You're not logging into the NCM web console are you? I'm talking about the NCM console on the application server. There you will see the Schedule menu in the tool bar.

You must already have a map resource added to the web page. Then all you have to do is click the "Edit" button in the top right corner of the map resource, When the "Edit Resource: map" page loads, click the "Customize map tooltips" link to the right side of the map list.

Thanks for the response Rick. As a matter of fact, I worked out the Excel solution yesterday that does what you mention, but I was actually hoping for a report (or maybe a scripted procedure) of some kind that would do the heavy lifting for me. Thanks for the feedback.

Not sure what you mean by the proper syntax.
-
I get the general idea, but what would that look like embedded in the "To" field of the alert email action?
-
Yes, the variable you are looking for is EventTime in the Events table.

rharland2012 is correct. In fact, IP Address Groups can also be used to customize NTA applications to allow one to differentiate applications using a common port. That means, that in addition to seeing total throughput by each Site, you could then see reports listing, for example, how much Oracle traffic each Site is using.

My goal is to perform an INITIAL creation of a list of City groups with dynamic queries. After that, one might add a new City here and there, but the goal is to abbreviate the "onboarding" process so as to get all existing nodes assigned to a City groups without having to create them one by one in the web GUI.

sonic6t9, Two observations if I might.... Depending on the number of elements you have or think you will have in the future, you may not need 4 total polling engines on your network. Generally speaking, each poller will be able to comfortable handle 8-10,000 elements. If you have around 18,000 elements now, you should be…

I would like to add my support for this feature in Orion Maps. Please do not retire Network Atlas until this capability has been added to Orion Maps. This is a very popular feature that I have seen used in a large number of installations. Thanks.

I'm not sure how to represent the 95% value in an SQL query. Perhaps someone else can help with that. However, after you have that syntax developed I believe that you would use the Filter Results tab of your report and employ an advanced elementary condition to compare the CPU utilization values to this variable. Any…

Crickets? Anyone?

Thanks Marie, but the referenced thread doesnt address my question. However, it does raise another question that is also not answered yet. Namely, must one stop ALL services on ALL pollers prior to load balancing? And, what is the purpose of the "Stop/Start Services" button in the Monitor Polling Engines app?
-
That is certainly what I had always understood as well. So, how to explain the fact that firewall rules are actually blocking attempts of APEs trying to talk to each other over port 17777. It's not just that the port is open - traffic is attempting to be sent/received. Malware? Virus? Scan? Ideas?

The Universal Device Poller Status web resource will show all assigned pollers for a node or interface, but it is in table format.
-
I read the post in the referenced forum and to say the least, one should take it with a grain of salt. The poster clearly knows nothing about Orion or NCM. Specifically, there is no way it would take 25 servers to monitor 10,000 Cisco devices with Orion or Cirrus. Depending on the number of interfaces and other resources…

Ok, went to this registry key and found eight license numbers and ten serial numbers. The names are four digit numbers like 3008 and 5170, etc. What does all that mean? Which products correspond to which keys?
-
That would be a global change.

Actually, the status of a node is determined by ICMP at a default 2 minutes interval unless the user has selected SNMP as the method of choice. In any event, the alert trigger could still have a delay that explains the wait on getting the alert. One other questions I did think of though... are you getting a node down alert…

Actually, the current version of NPM does allow multiple IP addresses for a node. In fact, you may choose the IP address that is polled by NPM. Look on the Edit Properties page for the node and you will see the Select IP Address button next to the node name field.

Pardon my interjection, but I would appreciate it if SolarWinds would produce an official white paper on this issue. The tendency of these SDF files to require periodic regeneration has been around a long time. I realize that there is a KB on the topic, but a white paper could also shed light on why this happens, and even…

Look at the following registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolarWinds\Orion You will see information for all modules there.

There is also a resource called "Custom Poller Status" as well. It is in the Node Detail Reports group when editing a node details view.
