Tuesday's question was a bit tricky, look at the pulldown menu in both the Classic and Modern views and two of the items are not included.

Thanks for the write up! SNMP may be obsolete in some ways but many of the vendors I work with still use it. Consider the cost of replacing all of the environmental controls on a medium size data center is in the millions. It's much more cost effective to put measures in place to secure the network. All of our UPS, Power,…

I got into IT through the Telecommunications field. Initially installing and programming PBX telephone systems which eventually led to 3270 terminals, Mainframe Computers, then everything after that. Got started installing Ethernet when it was thicknet and the cable was as big around as your thumb. I worked for a fortune…

Looks like some of the potholes in Michigan and they don't have any plans on fixing them. Some of our road maintenance contractors were on strike a good part of the summer and now they are working on them when the ground is frozen. Makes no sense.

Years ago we had a as in 'one' special motor generator that generated power for our mainframe. The center of the generator weighed several thousand pounds and spun at several thousand RPM's. Once every three months on Sunday night we would shut the mainframe down and while it was down we would grease the bearings on the…

Changes are allowed on Friday but try to avoid anything that could cause an issue over the weekend or cause someone's pager to go off.

At least your wires are color coded red/blue that should help a lot!

The virtual excavator looks like fun.

Any update on this? I see it in 'What we are working on' back in October 2018. I need to purchase one and my sales person is confused about it.

The wife shipped a bunch of plastic cups, retail value $20 for an event we were scheduling there. I do realize that its hard to purchase things there but for $420 we could have bought crystal glasses there and skipped the plastic cups.

Hoping to see some World Tour band merch, groupie T-Shirts, Band posters, etc

Thank you Kong.Yang. I think your comments were exactly on point. I just saw one of my former employers outsource almost all of their IT staff. It does seem that IT pro's are becoming a disposable resource for companies for many reasons.

Thanks for all that work capturing this

It's snowing here as well... yuck! Happy 2nd anniversary sqlrockstar and thanks for your posts. Always something interesting and fun to learn

Interesting observation that some places are beefing up processes for the influx (hopefully) of additional traffic due to shopping coming into the business while some are more concerned with employee shopping in the outbound direction Our corporate resources are all locked down but the company does provide a rate limited…

The query above will return a number as 'count' you can use any query you want. In this case I am trying to look for blocked or failed attempts. Then set up the rest of the template. In this example query should return a value within 1 second for warning, 1.5 seconds for critical and the Statistics threshold will be a…

Remembering back to the CB radio craze 'back in the day'... I still have a CB in my Jeep with the long whip antenna. I'm suprised at how many people still use them and the distance at which they work. I can regularly talk with people in Missippi from Michigan.

For On Prem I always liked a good packet capture tool.

This is good news! Especially during upgrades. With our network equipment support we always opened a ticket to have someone on standby during core upgrades and disaster recovery testing 'just in case'. If you had an issue it took very little time and the vendor was already aware of the work going on.
