Nice write up! We have been doing this for years but it has taken a suite of tools from many different vendors to accomplish it.

I'm studying to take the CISSP exam this fall. Not required by me present position but good to have.

I live 7 miles from this guy and I can't get high speed internet at my home

Thanks for the write up. I would probably say a mix of both. For example you may have Solarwinds for your infrastructure and in house synthetic transaction monitoring but you want your externally facing websites to also be monitored using synthetic transactions. Do you spin up your own 'robots' and deploy them around the…

"I've also seen where the DevOps folks started chasing every new technology" Ditto!

Before GPS was around we used to fish on Lake Michigan. Once you found the school you would throw a plastic bottle with a long line and a weight on it so you could find the school again. Any time a bottle was floating a crowd of boats would show up and surround your area. Once we got a GPS we would still go out and throw a…

Adding a 0 to the 3-2-1 RuleOn one of my monitoring tools data is replicated across the servers themselves, then the replications are striped across a bunch of drives, then the entire SAN is copied across multiple data centers then eventually backed up on tape. Copies of copies of copies.... and then they wonder why it…

California bill aims to strengthen data breach notification law Eventually the right politician will find his/her data being used in a bad manner then it will be 'the big story'.

Just think about which standards deal with which type of information and then which would be the most sought after and why and you will get it correct.

We used to occasionally find access points that someone had brought in from home and plugged into the network under their desk.

Many of us need to comply with several different regulations that include testing and security verification before we can do an upgrade. Below is a sample of some of the requirements that need to be met. So, having a test system isn't a luxury it it is necessity. I realize that there is a discount for lab systems and I'm…

I did an initial discovery and forgot some of the interfaces on the nodes. Reopened the initial discovery and added the additional interface information. Re-ran the discovery. No interfaces are being added. Looks like you do in fact need to delete the nodes and rediscover them from scratch. I use a lot of custom properties…

MyFitnessPal informed me someone had stolen a bunch of their data. I'm wondering where my heartrate is roaming around on the internet now?

Thanks for the write up.

Go figure! "Drugs and/or alcohol contribute to 33% of all air rage incidents"

I agree, usually the data center is physically hard to get into.

Or marketing bloating out your ecom site with feeds from google, facebook, etc that occasionally get crawling slow causing the entire site to slow down. 'Well, that looked nice and pretty, but we didn't make any sales....." The WPM waterfall chart was good at finding these.

Give a nerf gun to the new 'cadet' to welcome them to the team. The following month or so after they need to earn their superhero nickname, usually based on something they do differently or a quirky habit or possibly something they did wrong. Occasionally give them some love by filling up the battery compartment of their…

This is the closest I can get (in Venezuelan spanish) Maneja tu flujo de red – manage your network flow Debes manejar tu flujo de red – you should manage your network flow Como un tiburón caza un pez – Like a shark chasing a fish El tráfico nunca para de ser – the traffic never stops De noche hasta el amanecer – From night…

Facial recognition has a long way to go. And then there are those people that you occasionally run into that look exactly like someone you know, but you don't. If the human eye can be fooled a computer can as well. Even the tech to unlock your phone either by fingerprint or by facial recognition works only part of the…
