Hi Is Virtualization Manager showing different than vCenter or the Guest OS? Virtualization Manager gets it data from vCenter or the ESX servers in your environment, so we are looking at how the VM's are loading your virtual infrastructure, which can be different than how the OS on the VM is reporting its usage. This is…

Profiler currently limits the number of files returned to 5000 per target. You can subdivide the current target by doing local or remote shares leveraging the "depth" function which automatically subdivides the target per subdirectory. Brian

Server: Confirm the credentials on the Storage Manager configuration page in Orion. Login to the Orion server, can you login to Storage Manager via a web browser. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the module. Agent on host: When installing the agent on the host, did you enter the IP or name of the STM server correctly?…

We expect DPA to work with SQL Express as a repo, but given a number of its limitations, especially in DB size, you would have to adjust DPA to save less data, which kinda defeats the purpose of DPA. If you need a free DB, why not use MySQL?

Please go ahead and open up a support case at www.solarwinds.com/support/ticket/. Brian

You can also run the TestSMIProvider command to enumerate the instances. See page 99 of http://www.solarwinds.com/support/profiler/docs/SMISProvider.pdf BUT - the easiest way to find it, is to configure everything else but the identifier and then press the Test button at the bottom of the screen, it will give you a list of…

HP claims to support the P6500 with their SMI-S provider, so Storage Manager should collect data. Please let us know if you have any issues. Brian

Hi, DPA and DPAIM are 2 different installs, and have to be upgraded separately. DPA is java-based software that collects data from databases. DPAIM (DPA Integration Module) is an Orion module that integrates DPA with the Orion platform, and can be installed on its own or on an existing Orion server. To upgrade DPA, see…

In your Orion server, go to Settings > All Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom and look for "Database Details", that should give you the database information.

Major releases are generally twice a year, the last one was in June. See our What We Are Working On post for more information. Brian

Hi The best way to monitor the VMware and Hyper-V hypervisors is with Virtualization Manager. You can get some data in Orion based products (SAM, NPM) which is great for basic health and status overview, but if you need more depth, VirtMan is the answer. Brian

Hi The main benefit would be more performance statistics than what we are gathering through VMware. Adding agents adds overhead on each VM, so in general I would not deploy agents onto them. However, if you have a few VMs that you need a better picture of what is happening on the OS, go ahead and deploy agent to them to…

If you build a group in storage manager with those 6 devices, create a new user and add it to that group ONLY, then you should be able to use that user's credentials for each instance of NPM to see those 6 devices only. Let me know if that makes sense. Brian

Matt - I'll reach out to you and discuss the best way to deliver these.

Hi, There are two reports that should help you: * Executive Raw Storage Usage Forecast * Executive Usable Storage Usage Forecast These will look at overall array storage usage historically, tell you how fast you are growing, and how soon you will run out of storage. Let me know if you need additional help. Brian

Ben, check out this article and let us know what you think: Manage and Monitor PowerShell Scripts
-
Ben, I think you could do these things leveraging the new PowerShell scripting capabilities added in SCM 1.1. Stay tuned for more blog posts on PowerShell examples similar to your use cases.

What specific device are you monitoring?

Take a look at this post Database Response Time Analysis: Understanding Why The Database is Slow Also, the product has a carousel with detailed info. On any instance, near the top right, click Learn More and then Introduction to DPA. Let me know if you have more questions.

Hi, We don't get port performance data for AMS, however you can monitor your FC switches in Storage Manager and see port performance from that perspective. Brian

If you haven't signed up for the beta yet, we are almost finished with Beta2! Sign up now so you can get access right away! Sign up to try the beta for MySQL support in DPA! If you already signed up, you'll get a notice when the new download is available.

Note this is an issue with Virtualization Manager, not Storage Manager. I will see if we can move this post to that section. Brian

Hi, We don't support v3 on cisco at this time. By default MDS switches are set to use V3. You have to go to the command line and set a community string so that v1 v2c works. Brian

Hi This section is for Virtualization Manager... you might try posting this to NPM or SAM thwack section. Brian

Thanks for the great post, we will look at fixing this in future versions. Brian

Hi, We didn't change the historical page... here is an example on our demo site: http://database.demo.solarwinds.com/iwc/sqlDisplay.iwc?embedded=1&db_id=1022&cs=0&sql=3053264264 Are all queries missing the executions, or just some queries? Brian

Hi Aman, Orion does not have native support of HBA, but Solarwinds has acquired a new application that can monitor HBA and Storage Arrays, and show you end to end mapping. Check out Profiler at http://www.tek-tools.com. It is very easy to install and configure, just like Orion. Cheers, Brian

if you have DPA, it can monitor and alert on Availability Groups for both failover and status change. See this article for more information on AG functionality and alerts in DPA: https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Database_Performance_Analyzer_(DPA)/DPA_111_feature_Improved_monitoring_of…

Ron, we do collect information on qtree data on the N-series (NetApp), but not for vfilers at this time. It is on the roadmap, but not scheduled for a release at this time. Thanks for the feature request. Brian
