How to adult. Lots of folks need to read that how-to.

- Making bad data move around faster isn't actually helping the business I think this may be my new favorite line for the next while. That will definitely be repeated in meetings.

No one beats us for unwanted email! I bet we're also number one at the other kind of spam, too.

Thanks for sharing this. Great reading.

Terribly disappointed that my favorite has been defeated. I maintain that lactokinesis, while almost certainly occupying neither extreme of most or least useful superpower, is the coolest name ever. Hopefully someone gets to work design a shirt, sticker, or some other bit of swag with lactokinesis and some of the other…

"All time on Facebook is wasted." You just won the Interwebz. Game over.

As great and powerful as Splunk is, it costs all the money to get all the logs. For smaller operations, this might be an interesting alternative.

Sounds like a great time! The SWUG at Mandalay seems like an epic adventure.

I love the possibility that Hy-Brasil was possibly an IP protection scheme long before patent trolls ruled the courts. Maybe someone should force modern patent trolls to utilize the legal system of Hy-Brasil to pursue IP claims....just kidding, wink, wink, nudge, nudge Kudos on another great selection of material this week.

Great community!

Wow, lots of interesting titles to read. I've only read The Phoenix Project. Have to make some time to read some of these others.

Whahuh? What's up with today's question? Can we back up just a moment and review?

Unfortunately, a lot of IoT in stores seems very focused around monitoring consumers' behaviors. The Japanese IoT story is even more troubling. That law appears to grant them permission to try both default credentials and utilizing dictionaries. Seems like a big difference between 'the door is unlocked' and 'let me try my…

Did anyone ever answer this? Seems like you should be able to see the letter at any point after correctly answering, but I've seen that you can't look back.

Don't want IoT at home, but will undoubtedly have to deal with it in the workplace.

Alexa and its ilk are pretty transparent about what they are. I suspect we'll find out there are other products that have been listening and monitoring us for years.

This is a pretty decent article. Especially like that road sign at the top.

Water, water, everywhere, but not a drop to drink.

Anybody else not see Thwack points added for today's question after answering correctly? There seemed to be a lag with displaying the points total at the top of the page this morning around 8 or 9 EDT.

Would love to see Nimble support. Given the performance and capability of Nimble, keeping an eye on its assets would be very helpful.

Some of the newer crosswalks in my area give a reassuring beep after pressing the button. Others give no feedback, and leave you wondering. As a frequent pedestrian, the feedback is nice. Sometimes, less often than I might like, there is a near immediate change in the status of the traffic light, and I get to cross. Those…

This may sound like shameless promotion of Solarwinds, but that really is where I see the most value from Solarwinds' products. They are detached from the equipment and software vendors, but have the ability to coalesce so many panes of glass into the realm of meaningful data. In a lot of cases, the data that I get in NPM,…

How about a superpower to win arguments on the Internet? Nah, there is no winning arguments on the Internet. Awesome theme this year!

I think this is increasingly true. Convergence seems to be at least one of the orders of the day.

Hmm, not sure about the GoT predictions. Can one measure predictability in a world that thrives on unpredictability?

Some scary links this week.

I could see this being useful.

OTOH, there is something meaningful to Apple's admission that the product was not what it should be, and doing something to fix it. Personally, I like having Google Maps and Apple Maps to push each other and sanity check data.

"Hold on everyone, we're upgrading firmware on the switches and the lights will be out for the next 5 minutes!" Sorry, but just don't see PoE lighting for general deployment as a useful thing. Maybe in spot or niche usages, such as the dim recesses of a network closet, but that's about it.

So sad that these are still so prevalent.
