This has been a problem for us since Day 1. However, it is now a big deal, as one of our critical monitoring systems is only present as Trap---- "SNMP Dying Gasp". We spent $Millions for new hardware, and this was a required feature. We have to be able to separate power problems, over which we have no control (and no…

Ah...It says "Source: Chris' MacBook" in the image...which does not normally indicate a Windows machine. ?

As far as I can see, this does NOT address the issue that drives me crazy: there is no way to have different Interface Details views for different audiences. We have two separate networks, and a shared NPM/NCM/SAM/etc implementation. If I modify the Interface Details view for Type=Ethernet to reflect the features/needs of…

Chris- Is there a roadmap/schedule update on this? I need to work in this area, but I would rather not re-invent the wheel if possible.
-
Can you please post the full Alert definition? I am not seeing any details in ECORNWELL's post, and only some modifications in Karlo's post. The whole syntax would be very helpful here.

Seems to me there are two different cases: a) only want to get Routing Tables on a few routers - so default should be off, able to enable for individual nodes b) only want to exclude a few routers - so default should be on, able to disable for individual nodes We belong to group B - I want to track and compare routing…

I have discovered that some/most Adva Optical equipment (or at least the FSP3000R7 under OS 9.2.2) has only very limited support for the standard Interfaces MIB. Only the following OIDs from the ifTable are supported: ifTable ifIndex ifDescr ifType ifPhysAddress ifAdminStatus ifOperStatus All other OIDs are non-responsive.…

Progress on this area would be much appreciated. We have not used this heavily just because of this problem --- three sets of Alerts (Advanced, Syslog, Snmp) is just not a maintainable configuration.
-
Good question. I'm not sure; we are still trying to get our heads (and procedures) around using Orion in a shared environment. I think this depends on some SW roadmap issues---how is this supposed to work in the future? I was thinking Events today; Alerts will be a very small set in our world. But I would like to be able…

I have just encountered a version of this (very weak programming) in regards to Case 234974. As far as I can tell, the UNIX/LINUX script is of zero use w/o a variable for Community String and Version; and probabaly requires V3 credential variables as well. I am very disappointed; this does not appear to work at all!

I would like to chime in on this issue. 1) A unified Alert interface is very desireable; 2) Being able to generate NPM Events for SYSLOG/SNMP Alerts is important for us (and should be trivial to add). Thanks,
-
Are you able to import that into NCM? Can you provide example as to how to make this work? Thanks,
-
Not as far as I can see. That turns the Alert "off", but does not "clear" it. I am hoping to use the "clear" flag to allow members of the team to know which items have already been addressed, and which still need someone to deal with them. In general, once some types of things are back up, we no longer care about why they…

Sol- Would you please reference the actual other threads when making such statements? I did a search before posting and did not find any examples of THIS issue. Lots of people have general problems with 10/100 changes related to interface up/down and Auto functionality --- that is a different issue. I am trying to exclude…

Is there some way to surpress the (meaningless) fields for Cisco-only devices in the Node Details view/Node Details resource then? ["Operating System" blank] ----- is not at all helpful; ["IOS Image" unknown] ----- actually looks bad to management.
-
Chime in: This is also my preferred way to handle this. We have a lot of devices that do not have a RW string configured; and for which I do not want to add an RW string. Orion is used for RO to those devices. If this means they will fail SNMP validation, that is a problem for me.

Which file did you change? I have been looking for this for a while...

Is that the old FSP3000 device, or the current FSP3000R7 platform (Optical Transport - we use this for DWDM)? If the later, then my research indicates you are out of luck. Configuration is a binary file for which the vendor has declined to provide any decode or translation resources (on multiple requests). Their newer…

Is there a best practice for forwarding messages (outages or overloads) from my NPM to my customer's? Or vice-versa?
-
What about a master view of Alerts? I have trouble getting others to understand that there are three completely separate sets of Alerts in the System...a single unified view would be very helpful --- even if it had to lead to three different Editor screens due to options differences.

Can you please post a section of the log showing the disconnect? I am having a similar problem, and it would help to know if anyone else is seeing the same effect. [Fore/Marconi/Ericsson ATM switches] example: [4/7/2009 12:03:35 PM] TimerTick: Just tick-tockin away. .. [4/7/2009 12:03:37 PM] TimerTick:…
